Acanteen in Chelmsford

Absolutely a fantastic night. Food was fabulous a 10/10. The staff friendly and the live music was incredible. One of the best nights out we have had in a long time. Thank you acanteen for being just brilliant can’t wait to come and eat and enjoy your events again. Thank you for lily dior and band too.

Spot on.i wanted quiet but sombre. I wanted simple but good quality. I got all my needs met in abundance. Just the ticket. I highly highly recommend

We had to order our food at our table from a website. We also had to pay for our food at this point (no cash). Bit odd. The bill also included an optional service charge. Service for what? We had only just arrived had ordered our own food and drinks! Then we noticed our cutlery was heavily smeared. It wasn't dirty, it just hadn't been wiped after it came out of the dishwasher. Lack of attention. When the drinks arrived, my wife's drink wasn't the brand i'd ordered. I asked why and was told they'd run out (but he had no intention of explaining that until challenged). The server who delivered the  food was very brusque. He didn't ask if there was anything else we needed. He just walked away. I would have asked for mayo. Was this because we hadn't included the service charge? On the plus side, the food was excellent, if a little unimaginative, but i won't be returning. There's a lot of choice in Chelmsford these days and 3 stars doesn't warrant another visit.

We really wanted this place to be good and better than the chains, but it was average at best. Firstly they had ran out of one of their main lagers which didnt go down well with my husband and then they had run out of the starter I ordered which is pretty poor given it was only 7pm. The chicken burger was really bland, and half of the steak was fat. Then the real test -sticky toffee pudding, but this too was disappointing and I've had much better elsewhere. We were disappointed we didnt rate the food as it's a good venue and we want to support local businesses, but we wont be rushing back again for dinner.

The food is great and having independents are really important but the service continues to disappoint. Went in for lunch Yesterday and waited 15 minutes after sitting down before someone took our Order, despite already asking a waitress who couldn’t help as they didn’t have a tablet, then waited an even longer time until we were served food. Although the table next to us, sat down 10 mins after us and ordered 5 minutes later than us had already received their drinks. We reminded them of our drinks, and once received it was noted that one was wrong. Later, when getting the bill rather than having the wrong drink removed, we were charged for the wrong and more expensive drink. Not for the first time Really Poor service

Enjoyed a lovely meal and 2 for 1 on Prosecco which enhanced my visit! Good food and friendly staff.

We’ve visited Acanteen for brunch as a family on several occasions now and they have always provided friendly service and fresh, healthy food. Their drinks in particular are delicious and there’s plenty of vegan options including vegan bacon and a ‘Daily Burn’ drink providing a super vegan alternative to a chocolate milkshake. Lovely place.

We visited on Saturday morning for brunch. The staff are friendly but despite plenty of waitresses, the service was very, very slow. It took 15 mins to take our order and then we had to remind the FOUR times about missing drinks. A real shame as aCanteen always has excellent food.

Visited a few times now for brunch and never disappointed. Sometimes you wait quite a while for your food but that is because everything is SO freshly cooked. Caters for us veggies with so much to choose from and the staff are very accommodating if you want to tweak your menu choices! Mixture of families, friends and couples and has a busy but relaxed vibe to it. Highly recommend!

Went there for brunch on the Easter Bank Holiday Monday. Superb cooking with excellent produce. Very tasty. Staff were excellent, attentive (it was very busy) and pleasant. Thoruoghly recommend it.

After hearing alot of good reviews i thought right i need to try this i went on saturday after a gym session i had the aprotein big breakfast it was sooo nice i highly recommend it i will be going again 10/10 for me was not disappointed!

Its perfect! The food is amazing, fresh, well seasoned and great sized portions. The produce is local and the breads are fantastic. If only all places took such pride in their work. The staff have been wonderful every single time I've been here and the Bloody Mary's are great too. Trust me, its worth the trip.

I visited here for breakfast on Saturday after a lot of reviews from friends. I highly recommend it! I had a large veggie breakfast which was excellent. Cooked perfectly. The service was brilliant - I will be returning!

Was my first ever visit to chelmsford, and I would definitely recommend this place, lovely variety of food and good choice for vegans and good customer service.

Food looked ok... unfortunately the service was so bad that we never got to try it. Eventually we managed to order a drink, which came with no milk for the tea. After 4 failed attempts to source some milk and still no closer to getting some breakfast we decided to go elsewhere.

Came as a family and we have been a number of times over the years. Generally good but is just let down on service, inconsistency on the presentation and the food being not hot to the table and just verging on warm. Its a shame really in the past when it was at its previous location this was a 5 stars place ... it had more character, personal service and the food was always great.

Great lunch but rather noisy at 12pm on a Sunday due to children. By 2pm the place was much quieter.Recommend everything but the coffee..

Always visit Acanteen when i am in Chelmsford. Either for drinks and nibbles, or afternoon tea. Great service always and a well worth trip!

I usually come here for a takeaway sandwich which are very nice. It has a really local, fresh produce vibe to it. Dinners are great. Definitely a unique offering as you can tell it is all fresh & unique. Cocktails are very nice & flavourful.

Visited here 3 times to date and there seems to be lots on the menu for breakfast. I did not have a great experience last time only with the choice of food I ordered which meant a trip to the dentists- but in fairness I took a chance ordering chorizo - which I guess can mean off the bone. Anyhow its was not the fault of the restaurant only a choice I should have avoided. Seems a busy place- staff seem friendly as well. Mid range prices and I tend to grab something lite and quick at Starbucks but worth a visit.

We were introduced to Acanteen by our Son who lives in Chelmsford, our only disappointment is that they don't have a place in our home town of Leeds! Breakfast was fantastic and i understand they have great Jazz nights as well as comedy nights.

Excellent food and despite being busy the staff were lovely and worked really hard. Would definitely go there again.

Went this Feb with a friend. Had a really tasty and healthy meal served by friendly staff. I like the informal feel to the place.

Acanteen have set up a little cafe inside Foyles bookshop and it is wonderful! It is a really lovely, relaxed place to grab a coffee and cake, or a light lunch. We stopped for a coffee break and had coffees and an enormous slice of the coffee and walnut cake. All were delicious. The coffee is really good quality and it is such a nice atmosphere to relax in a bookshop.
