My friends and I look forward to our weekly get together at 'About Coffee' to enjoy the best coffee in the North West. All the different coffees are prepared and presented to a very high standard by welcoming and friendly baristas. The choice of delicious, fresh cakes are varied and consumed with gusto. However be prepared to queue for a few minutes as this gem of a shop is really popular.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

About coffee had been recommended to me by my friend and I felt I had to pay it a visit. Unfortunately my car had broken down due to a infestation of ferrits chewing my throttle cable in half so to get there on my only day off for 6 months, I decided to ride my horse Terry and to make sure I arrived when they opened at 8am I had to set off the night before at 10.30pm. I left Batley, West Yorkshire in torrential rain and howling wind and my shoe fell off whilst Terry had become disturbed by a bin bag blowing in the wind so I was open to the elements, but after such roaring reviews I persevered through the many obstacles that I was to encounter. Not far out of Bradford at around midnight my other shoe fell off and I contracted a mild skin condition but as I said, the glowing reviews spurred me on. At Shipley I was accosted by a group of around 11 men and they demanded I gave them my hat. I couldn't argue or fight my way out of this predicament so shoeless and hatless I soldiered on through the night salivating at the thought of the fantastic caffeine rich beverages coming my way. Upon arriving in bandit country, otherwise known as Keighley, I had to make sure my wits were about me and took a short cut over the moors. Bullets were dodged and I was becoming saddle sore but hot coffee was calling from over the boarder. At this point it had got to 2am and the pair of us were cold and tired but we pressed on into the cold night. As the sun began to rise over the border into Lancashire we walked straight into a bog and Terry said he had had enough of this ridiculous, farcical and ill organised debacle and he trotted off back in the direction of Batley. So there I was, shoeless, hatless and horseless in the pooring rain but I was nearly there. I could smell the coffee wafting over the hill. Upon reaching Colne my skin condition had manifested into Vitiligo and I was struggling to walk so I crawled the rest of the way. All of a sudden I could see about coffee like a beacon of hope. I crawled through the door, battered bruised and parched and was politely informed the coffee machine was knackered and i was offered tea which I am allergic to. I turned around and went back to Batley. Picked up a coffee in Greg's instead.

Went for a walk in Colne while my wife was at boundary Mill. What a pleasant surprise to find this lovely coffee shop in what for me is a quite depressing town centre. I had a cafetiere with the choice of beans chosen by one of the staff. It was really good and made 2 decent cups. One of the few places to go in Colne.

Despite living and working in Colne for several years I’ve only recently bought coffee from here and I really wish I had started sooner. Was asked to attend a meeting here today and wasn't exactly keen on the venue as I loathe coffee. Went for the soft option and chose a hot chocolate. Boy, the first sip was amazing - i never tasted anything so good , and it was an experience I won't forget in a hurry, that be true. The venue was really rustic and fits in well with Colne's continued regeneration. They're certainly giving Hebdon Bridge a run for its money. Wonderful place I will certainly be going back with the family next time and may even be tempted to try the coffee.

Perhaps Nelson could swap some of its excellent take-out entrepots for similar cafes. Even if this cafe was in a big city, with mega-choices, it would be an excellent choice. Calm, unpretentious but with possibly the best coffee for many miles. I'm a big cake fan, and the guys make their own from what I understand. MORE AT TripAdvisor

I decided to come here while I was in Colne as I was in the mood for a quick cake and a drink. Since this place had a good reputation and was in an ideal location in the centre of town, I picked this place over the rest of the competition. Coming here definitely proved to be the right decision as everything I had was great, while the service was also good due to polite and friendly staff. When I first walked in, I couldn't help but notice how cheap everything seemed to be. I saw why this was the case when the food and drink arrived though as the portion sizes are smaller than usual. That doesn't mean that you get a bad deal though as you definitely get your money's worth. When it comes to food, the menu here is extremely limited as, unlike most coffee shops, they only sell toast, crumpets and cakes. While the crumpet is only available in its most basic form, there is a lot to choose from with the others though. The range of toast was rather impressive as it included things like fruit toast and multiseed alongside more common kinds of bread. With somewhere between 10 and 15 cakes, there was also plenty to choose from here, while they were also nice and varied including things like Eccles cakes and Florentines alongside the usual mix of sponge and chocolate based cakes. While there might not be much in the way of food, there is definitely a lot when it comes to drink. Around 30 different kinds of tea as well as 8 different coffee beans are available here. The rest of the hot drinks are otherwise the same as you get everywhere else, with the exception of a white hot chocolate. Even the range of cold drinks are impressive here as there are a number of iced teas and cold coffees to choose from. Milkshakes are also available, but they only come in the basic three flavours. While I was here I selected a hot chocolate to drink and a Maltesers square as my cake.I'm usually not much of a fan of a thick layer of froth on hot chocolates but, since it had a decent chocolatey flavour to it here, I found it to be pleasing. The cocoa powder on top, which I usually like, seemed to be a bit too bitter for my liking though. The hot chocolate itself was really smooth, while it also tasted really chocolatey. Instead of being the sweet kind that most places serve, this was a proper hot chocolate, having a slightly bitter flavour to it. The bitterness was only subtle though, which meant that it was a positive rather than a negative. It wasn't as though the drink wasn't sweet at all either. It just wasn't as sweet as hot chocolates usually are.The Maltesers square had a thick milk chocolate layer on the bottom, which had a consistency somewhere between that of fudge and a biscuit. This meant that it was both somewhat soft and somewhat crunchy at the same time. Even in terms of flavour it seemed a bit different as its sweetness seemed to be between chocolate and fudge. Crunchy balls, like you find in Maltesers, were inside but these were clearly very different from the core of the actual Maltesers as they were simply average when it came to flavour. A thinner layer of white chocolate was on top of the milk chocolate layer. This was soft and smooth, while it possessed a rather buttery flavour. The cake was then topped off with small flakes of milk chocolate, which blended in seamlessly. It wasn't just the food and drink that was good here as the service stood out as well. This was due to the staff being polite and friendly throughout, even if they weren't as talkative as staff can be in other independent cafés. The key event for the service was that, when I sat down at the table next to the window, one of the staff members came over to pull the blinds down so that the sun wasn't shining in my eyes. Unlike some cafés, you are required to pay for your order up front here. They deliver both the food and drink to the table though, so you don't have to stand around to collect it. My cake was also served at the same time as my drink which, despite being a simple thing, isn't the case everywhere you go.The prices here are noticeably cheaper than your average coffee shop, although this appears to be reflected in the portion size. Ultimately you get what you pay for as my large hot chocolate was the size of what would be a regular one in most other places. My cake was significantly smaller than average as well, but this was reflected in the price. To give a feel for the prices here, you are looking at £1.40 for toast or £1.50 for crumpets. The cakes were mostly priced between £1 and £2, keeping everything nice and cheap, while some were even a few pence below this. Coffee comes with a £3.75 charge for three cups, or a £6 charge for six cups. The rest of the hot drinks are priced between £2 and £2.50, other than £1.85 for a basic tea. While this meant that there wasn't anything that cost too much, it also meant that the teas were a little more expensive than usual. At £1.50, milkshakes appeared to be incredibly cheap here, although I do not know how large these were. The coffee shop is split into two separate areas, with a room being up a small flight of steps at the. The place features light grey walls with a few paintings providing decor, although the back area features additional items and is decorated much nicer. Several layers of shelves here display products they sell such as tea and mugs, while a couple of bicycles are placed on the very top shelves. The room also features a glass cabinet displaying various items of tea paraphernalia, which are also for sale. In terms of seating, four tables are located at the lower level, while five more are located up the stairs at the back. A single table is also placed outside the coffee shop, which means that there are ten tables here in total.

Having recently moved to the area I took my mother for a little stroll around Colne. We stopped for coffee and toast which was both very nice. The gentleman working there seemed very pleasant too. Our only issue was when we politely asked for extra butter we were told in an abrupt manner "it's 10p extra" from the lady working behind the counter. Whilst I feel petty writing about this, I think it's important for the owners of this coffee shop to value repeat custom and for the sake of 10p they lost out on a sale of the ground coffee we had planned to buy and tips!

After walking nearby headed to 'about coffee' after reading reviews on trip advisor. Very pleased with the choice. Staff friendly and accommodating. Very good range of coffees and cakes. Order arrived in good time and tasted as good.....After this why would anyone bother with one of the more commercial chains. Definitely will be back

Found this coffee and tea shop when we were at the R & B Festival. The coffee was excellent and the staff so friendly and knowledgable, the range of teas, coffees and other drinks is huge for such a little shop. Will definitely be going back next time we are in Colne. Just wish it was nearer.

Great real ale pub full of character, nice staff and good value. Do pizza and burgers during the weekend.' Also live bands during the summer months.
