Had a wonderful birthday Sunday lunch at Wrea Head Hall for all the family. Beautiful setting with lots of charm and character. Food and service were outstanding. All the young staff were very professional and attentive. It was a very special occasion which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommended

Just spent a wonderful two nights at WREA HALL. We were not sure what we would find. These days there are so many places that boast, peace and quiet, luxury service and first class service, fine Dining, wonderful location, beautiful gardens, but when you get there it's rubbish. Not so here. I am happy to say it was like going back in time, when things were done properly. Those standards that so many establishments fail to achieve are in abundance here. A good old fashioned luxury Hotel at last we found one. What it lacked in not having a swimming pool and spa it make up for in the service it provided. The food was first class and we will definitely be going again. The addition of an electric charging point would be the only addition I would suggest, other than that don't change a thing.

I booked for a table weeks ago only to be rung on the day telling me the hotel was full and they could not honour the booking. Offered a table nearly 2 hours later which was no use to us. Told them not to bother and I would not be booking again. Don’t waste your time booking a table unless you are staying there as you are clearly a second class citizen in their eyes. Very poor service and just incompetent.

Went for the first time for Sunday lunch. The building and surroundings are beautiful. The staff are all friendly and helpful. We were seated in the 1881 restaurant and had 3 course Sunday lunch, french onion soup, Sunday lunch and desert. All 3 courses were delicious, one of the best Sunday lunches we’ve had. Really good quality produce, cooked perfectly. A lovely meal in lovely surroundings, can’t wait to return.

My wife and I stayed for - sadly - only one night at Wrea Head. We last stayed here about 15 years ago and did not return until now because the hotel was getting a bit dated and the restaurant food was not great. Having heard that it had since been taken over by new owners and management, we decided to give it another try. And, we are so glad we did. Driving up to the hotel. The grounds are beautifully maintained, there is very good parking. Obviously, entering the hotel, you are aware of the present Covid-19 restrictions but we were warmly welcomed and went to our room (16). The decor in the hotel has improved so much since our last visit and is fresh and tasteful. The room itself was a great size with an enormous and very comfortable bed. In the bathroom, a slipper bath and separate shower made it very comfortable too. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was delicious, as was the breakfast the following morning. Checkout was easy, followed by a lovely walk along Scarborough beach. Thank you, Kevin and your team for a wonderful stay and to the kitchen for great cooking. We hope to see you again soon.

We have just got back from a 2 night stay at this stunning hotel. On arrival the venue is remarkable. The grounds are cared for and they are obviously planning further renervations around the grounds. Upon entering the reception area we were welcomed by a lovely receptionist who kindly explained the COVID secure rules for the hotel. He informed us of how we should order breakfast and if we were to have dinner at the hotel to submit our order form no later than 5pm. On entering our room it was clean but did require some final touches, for example: the ornate mirror had collected a lot of dust and needed a good dust and wipe down. The bed was a king size but the matress could have been of better quality. We requested an extra pilllow as the ones we had were hard and flatter and they provided replacements straight away. The mirror in the bathroom did not stay in the correct position and the handle to the shower cubicle was lose. This sounds like a bad review but it is not, far from it, very minor issues and we will most certainly return in the near future. We ate dinner at the hotel both nights and the food was incredible. It is by far one of the best meals both myself and my husband have eaten. We had a starter and a main each night and we were not disappointed! Again, breakfast was as tasty as the dinner. The portions are large and I was unable to eat it all. The drinks prices were also reasonable. £5 for a lager, £4.50 for a bombay saphire gin and the tonic was £1.95.Would certainly recommend this place to anyone of any age, you are treat like royalty, nothing is too much trouble. We are looking forward to returning.

Dined in January 2020. Choice of standard and luxury menu or can choose from both, with set prices for 2 or 3 courses. I'm told choice of food changes regularly. Menus are simple in that you are not overwhelmed with umpteen choices. My menu included red & white meats, game, fish and vegatarian options. Portions were generous, and included a sorbet to "cleanse the palate". I enjoyed my meal, the service was excellent and attentive, and prices were very reasonable for the quality.

Ate as part of the bed breakfast and evening meal deal. Caesar salad starter was lovely. My husband's mackerel starter was in a baked basket that was so hard when he tried to cut into it it shot off the plate but the flavours were good.Main course I had the bream. The whole dish was rather bland. Not the flavours promised on the menu. The mash was lumpy and unseasoned. My husband had the roast chicken korma. Smelt amazing before it got to the table and totally delivered as the description on the menu.Desserts! If you are going to take an ordered for the love of God write it down! My husband chose cheese board. Brie, abbots gold (I believe) and smoked Wensleydale. The brie never turned up they gave him goats cheese instead. I ordered the frangipani with ruhbarb ice-cream. Only when a neighbouring table had their desserts did I realise they had given me keylime pie instead. (Never eaten either of those dessert before so ate a third of it)None of the waitresses asked how our meals were though everyone said 'enjoy' before we went in. When I called the waitress to tell her about the mistake to be fair she asked if I wanted it replacing it wax too late by then. But there was no waitress to be seen for the following 15 minutes. Just very disappointed as we chose the hotel because of the great reviews of the restaurant.

The Wrea Head comes very high in our estimation because it manages to maintain the type of service that elderly people like us remember enjoying in our youth at places such as The Gourmet restaurant at the Royal in Scarborough at a price that does not make your eyes water. On arrival one is greeted properly, coats dealt with and the one escorted to the bar which serves the usual things properly while the menu is perused. There is a resonable choice of food that is always fresh and well presented. We have never had a bad meal here and one is not pestered every 5 minutes asking whether it's alright! Good choice of wines too. Linen on the lap and table of course though this no longer extends to the long forgotten days of silver service.Absolutely the only negative I have is that the place and it's decor seems much cosier once the dark of winter arrives.

Part of the charm of Wrea Head Hall is the fantastic food and service. The restaurant manager Len ensures that high standards of service are provided whilst head chef Andy produces exceptional food beautifully presented.

Choice of two menus for dinner, but you can pick and mix.All the food was excellently cooked and very well presented. A good wine list, possibly a bit on the pricey side, but this is not a cheap hotel.

Very Disappointing. The afternoon tea had a lot to be desired. The staff were not attentive although we had booked it in advance and were the only people at that time in the restaurant. They served it on a very low table and on the sofas not in any of the restaurants which was very inconvenient and uncomfortable. . Although the log fire was burning the room was very cold. It was embarrassing as we had taken a guest with us. In the past we have had good food and service. Today it was as if we were a problem for them. There was no one attending to us and I had to use my husbands used teaspoon to have my dessert.

We ate here whilst staying at the hotel. Both dinner and Breakfast were excellent. For dinner there are 2 fixed price menus but you are allowed to mix courses from the cheaper and more expensive menus for just a £5 premium per course from the more expensive menu

1881 is an excellent restaurant for guests of Wrea Head Hall but also takes bookings for those who want to eat out in the evening. The food is very, very good and plentiful, created by a skilled chef and his team. Excellent menu and wine list to suit all tastes.

The dining room was fully booked on both nights that I was at the hotel so booking is essential. The portions are generous and my selection from the least expensive menu (Two courses £24.50) was perfectly cooked and presented. I followed this with the cheese platter (£5.95) which was served with grapes, chutney, and celery. The bar can become full for pre-dinner drinks, but there is an attached conservatory or the library in which to overflow. Good service.

We visited with friends in September and had a. Very nice meal, good welcome on arrival, bar area is very nice for pre dinner drink. Good table in the resturant, food was good, quite large portions, nice presentation. Reading other reviews food quality can be variable but it was lovely when we dined there. Many of the other guests appeared to be returning customers staying at the hotel

My husband and I booked a long getaway weekend at Wrea Head. Unfortunately, they give preference to groups over guests booking a room. We had assigned seating in the dining room. When asked for a table near the windows for the next night they would only say that they would try. On the last night they just moved us to seat a group in the middle of the dining room. The dining food varied greatly in quality. The salmon course was very nice, but the chicken main course was dry and had no flavor. One night we were in the reading area and we were asked to leave as they were having a group. When we were leaving they said that if we did not mind sharing the room we could stay.Wrea House is more concerned about groups. For couples they lack customer service.

Well what can I say after booking a table on a Saturday evening for 8 pm we arrived to a nice ride up the grounds which were very well maintained And all was looking good until we arrived through the front door we had to walk around most of the downstairs roomsAnd there was no one there in reception orBar then out of the blue a lady came to the bar and What i can only describe as an off putting individual and positively rude oh dear and she got worse she was absolutely useless I'm sure she's never worked in any hospitality I'm must admit I was a touch frightened by her Then the food restaurant staff were much better wines a little slow at times 1 st course lobster was beautiful although 3 dishes of queenie scallops were a disaster on a plate horrible.Mains were 4 fillet steaks nicely presented and tasted nice although a touch too large a portion for me Will not go back as trip report misleadMe

I recently stayed at Wrea Head Hall and ate in the restaurant on a couple of nights. Very slick operation with good food, presented beautifully, in a very nice dining room. But the food is quite rich and possibly quite high in salt, judging by how thirsty I was after each meal. Despite this, a nice experience and definitely an 'occasion' restaurant.

The food here is amazing, local produce cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and the chef very accommodating, very willing to add or take away ingredients that you don't like. Cooked to perfection meat was well cooked and not served pink or red but properly cooked but still juicy and succulent the chef's expertise and the quality shine through, thoroughly enjoyable.

There was a bit of a mix up as our reservation had gone astray, however the maitre'd couldn't have been more helpful to put it right. The setting is wonderful, a real historical hall sympathetically converted to a hotel and restaurant. The food was all very good, service equally so. Good produce, cooked and presented very well. Decent value. Would definitely go again
