Visited for reserved evening meal. Eventually shown to our table but the premises were extremely cold. We sat down and ordered drinks which started to arrive. On noticing other clients they were seated with their coats on eating. I appreciate the present fuel crisis but I refuse to pay for a meal and sit with my coat on. We left.

Visited this bar whilst staying overnight in the hotel. Great choice of real ales and the menu was varied. Had the Cumberland sausage and mash. Food was freshly cooked, piping hot and very good. Reasonably priced.

I had salmon - very nice but small, glad I ordered side of mash and side of veg. Husband had shin of beef with side of fries - very nice. Sitting under a bright light and a bit to close to others to feel romantic. Specifically requested only a couple of cubes of ice but it came crammed full, couldn't be bothered to mention it. Both serving ladies pleasant.

My partner and I were doing a long country walk recently and planned a few pub stops along the way. Having not been to The White Lion in years, we stopped for sandwiches and a couple of drinks. We got really friendly services, perfectly cooked steak sandwiches with delicious chips and beautifully kept ale - Mobberley Brewhouse's Onyx Oatmeal Stout was a delight and a highlight. We sat in comfy chairs by the fire and could've stayed all night. We will be back soon for a full sit down meal when we aren't splashed in mud and leaving wellies at the door!

My husband and I dined here and couldn’t fault the service or the food! We ordered the ham hock and chicken liver pate to start and the pork belly and duck confit as mains - the entire meal was excellent! Right from presentation to flavour - it was one of the finest meals we’ve had. The service was also top-class. Do not miss this place for a meal, you won’t regret it!

Dont choose a ground floor room, otherwise this hotel offers excellent value for money. Food in restaurant is excellent, staff very professional, location is ten minutes from M6 motorway, so why stay on the services hotel.

A group meeting of 15 ladies and no complaints about the food or service! The restaurant was quite busy but we received our starters quickly. A varied main course dish was served to us altogether, no waiting and with ease. Puds and coffee came last and everybody was really happy with the whole evening.

We visited here for tea one Friday. Delicious. Only criticism is that I feel there should have been some peas with the sausage and mash but overall beautiful food and stunning place. Will definitely be visiting again.

On a drive through the Cheshire countryside near to Crewe we came upon the 1652. It looked interesting so we stopped initially for a drink. Then we noticed the small 17 bedroom hotel at the rear. We looked into the restaurant area, which looked newly refurbished and decided to order a light lunch. We asked for a table in the light and in a quiet area. Good to not hear any background music so you could sit and chat.We ordered from the light bite part of the menu - a cottage pie with red cabbage and warm bread and ham, egg and chips. It was piping hot and enough without becoming too full.Car parking is ample and we saw a private bowling green next to the hotel. We have made a note to return possibly to stay at the hotel.

my daughter paid for me to have tea, for my starter i had asparagus wrapped in parma ham, when it came out it was cold and very hard, then for my main course i had the Guinness and mushroom pie with chips and vegetables, again it was just warm and it was placed on a long and narrow plate which there was know room to cut anything the gravy was like water and the pie was tasteless, as i didn't like to say anything to my daughter as it was her treat, but i most definitely will not be returning.

Had a lovely meal, and it's so nice to see smaller versions of some main courses. I certainly wished I'd gone for the smaller pie when mine arrived, it was delicious. Great fish and salad options too.

Bread board, oils and aioli to share for starter, cajun chicken and pepper salad for main followed by a cheese board. Plenty of attention from servers. A bit busy and noisy for a romantic evening but the food can't be faulted. We will definitely visit...

My partner and I decided to visit here after I'd heard what a lovely job they had done on the refurb ! Firstly decor is almost there, but with dramatic chandeliers you need to make sure all of the bulbs are working and all of the lampshades are straight, cheaply recovered old chairs, and dodgy looking prints on the wall, other than that not too bad, just needs bringing together somehow ......Service was slow to start and remained slow all evening , maybe waitresses could crack the occasional smile and look like they are actually enjoying their job, I had to get up at one point to request a dessert menu as we had been sitting waiting for nearly 30 minutes. Lipstick on my wine glass ..... Never good ! Food however wasn't too bad , good portion size, presented beautifully. I think it just needs a little more, for example , a host as you wak in, someone to rally the troops, give a little direction, and an interior designer ! The potential is there.

Just returned after a 4 month break. Fantastic food, but disppointed that drinkers took children into the cocktail area, and children were racing around the area, sitting on the stairs preventing waitresses safely delivering food. Staff are absolutely lovely and were obviously reluctant to ask parents to behave like parents. Management should step up and make the dining experience not only fantastic but awesome.Having said that, would return again and again for the food, but please, control the children!!

Have been visiting The White Lion at Weston for many years and re visited last night with friends for a meal in the refurbed restaurant and it was superb. The food choice was excellent - four of us had four different meals and they were all great. Have re booked for a Christmas Meal with a group of neighbours and look forward to another great night of excellent food and drinks.

Popped in here for a late lunch on Saturday - we'd been wanting to have a look since the refurbishment and liked the look of the website, so made a special effort to get there. They've done a great (though eclectic!) job of refurb-ing the bar (which is where we go to eat). Good selection of beers available and a *gorgeous* winter cider, drunk warm! Oldie Worldie feel (wood beams and slate floor) to much of the inside, with an intriguing contrast to the sparkling granite bar! Toilets vastly improved (also modern). Felt welcoming for all of us - not a place where you feel awkward taking the kids.Food: the kids had their favourite - ham sandwiches! No problem swapping the proposed chips for crisps. As it was only lunch, we had one of the "light" options of steak and Guinness pie. Really lovely food, pie just the right size for lunch, fantastic chips and nicely cooked veg. Great place for a great lunch! Four drinks plus meals came to £30 ish which was spot on for us. We'll certainly be going back!

7 of us attended and unfortunatly had cancelled another pub nearby to come here. Two of us had steak the ribeye was dry inside and the sirloin was sent back as full of fat. The new sirloin was OK but i felt the meat was poor quality. The linguini was full of grit as the veg had not been washed correctly and the meat pie was full of mushrooms with 3 pieces of meat and a fatty piece. The gammon was OK as was the musscles and fish and chips. Will not be going back.

This place has a vast amount of things for children to play on. However don’t expect to get food quick- they have two cage areas but one is never open and the other has a constant huge queue because the staff take forever! Even if you want drinks you have to queue with the food and last time we queued for 25 minutes! Ridiculous when you have children to supervise and feee!

The most appalling 'meal' and service that I have ever been subjected to. We ordered steak and ale pie and this was brought out to us and placed on our table and described as a pie. However, there was absolutely no pastry, just a bit of gravy in a dish. When I called the waiter back he said 'to be honest, we've ran out of pastry' - are these people for real? To add insult to injury, the manager actually tried to charge us for the pies we never received!!!! Shambolic and not for the first time, but definitely for the last. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY!!!!

Average food more like a pub, raw onion in the scotch egg bhaji, bang bang cauliflower poor, fish and chips were tiny and fish dry. So over priced for below average food.
