Heard a lot about this place so decided to give it a go. Booked a table for Friday night, arrived at Rogerthorpe Manor Hotel to find the steak house was in one of the small function rooms at the back. We went in and was a little concerned there was only one other group in on a Friday night. We stood awkwardly for almost ten minutes waiting to be seated, some staff walked past us and some were stood talking and we were completely ignored. This became the first casualty of my new strict no second chances policy. I'm fed up of handing my hard earned cash over for poor service so we walked out and had a gorgeous meal at the Rustic Arms in Ackworth about a mile way (definitely recommend Rustic Arms). It's a shame because Rogerthorpe Manor looks good and living close by we wanted to try it for a while but it's unlikely we will go back.

Arrived for Afternoon Tea and we were directed to the Oak Room. No staff in attendance, so we chose our own table. Eventually we were served our tea but nothing in the way of a greeting, hello or even a smile. The food was ok but the beef was very tough and the trifle bland. We could not finish all the cakes, so we asked if they could be boxed up to eat later. The waitress refused to do this, so we had to leave them. What a waste of cake and money. We didn't feel very welcome at all and will not return.

Possibly one of the best steaks I've eaten was served here. The service was on the whole good. However, the older lady in charge appeared a little hostile. One of our friends asked how he could have a 16oz steak instead of the 8oz and was told he would have to pay for a complete extra meal. In fairness, 16oz wasn't on the menu but seriously? Anywhere else in the world would have seized on this as an opportunity to impress customers. I argued his case and she sought advice from chef who simply said a £5 supplement would be fine. That's it! It made us happy. What was the problem? Get rid of the old girl and you have a steak restaurant in the north second to none. Thank you for the food and to the young waitress for a good service. We'll try it again once more.

We had experienced a difficult week of house renovation and had been decorating on the Sunday morning. On the spur of the moment we decided to lunch out and relax. Where to go? We decided to book a table in the Oak Room at the Rogerthorpe. There was a large party in already along with a couple of other tables occupied. We received a warm greeting and our drinks order was taken while we perused the menu. The meal order was taken promptly and the starters were soon served. My wife's pate and chutney was delicious and my prawn cocktail while small, was tasty. We both chose beef for the main course along with Yorkshire pudding and vegetables. The servings were large but everything was nicely cooked and presented. My wife found the gravy far too salty and this had been poured on the meat before being served so next time we will ask for all gravy in a side dish (should be presented like that really). The meat was very tender, the Yorkshire pudding just right and there was a large serving of 4 different veg which were cooked exactly right (not too en dente and not over cooked mush). We also had very tasty deserts. The wine ( by the glass) was reasonably priced and not at all bad for house wines. Our waitresses were very attentive, friendly and efficient and the Oak Room/1610 restaurant has a classy feel and nice atmosphere. We will definitely give it another try for Sunday lunch.

Our second visit to RMH and the 1610 restaurant for Sunday lunch and again superb. Bearing in mind this was very near Xmas and furthermore that the 1610 restaurant, Jacobean Pub and the function room (with the Rolls Royce enthusiast club) were all full to the brim, this did not impact on the hotel's ability to deliver a first class family Xmas Sunday lunch. Yes, its only Sunday lunch I hear you cry, but as we all know, some places make a complete hash of it. Not so the RMH. Super tasty and well cooked meats, fresh and well prepared veg, good choice of quality starters and deserts, all very reasonably priced and with good service throughout. The 1610 restaurant is also a very pleasant setting for an enjoyable meal.

I visited this restaurant with a friend for an evening meal. The cost was a starter and main for £18, which we thought was a little expensive but were treating ourselves! We were not disappointed and it was worth every penny. The starters were good portions and very tasty and the main course was beautiful, both in taste and presentation. We 'just had a look' at the dessert menu, but couldn't resist! The cheesecake was gorgeous. From start to finish, the staff were excellent and attentive. Attended Rogerthorpe manor with family to celebrate a special occasion. I have been before but several of the group had not. We booked into the 1610 steak restaurant. The room us of medium size and gives the feel of stepping back in history due to the beams and windows. The staff were friendly and met all our needs. The grounds are stunning and add to the atmosphere of the place as you can see them from the window next to the lawn. and had one hell of a meal. The meal was to say the least amazing. For £18 you can choose two courses. We decided on the pulled pork in a BBQ sauce followed by a sirloin steak served with a pepper sauce and Chips. There's also an option for other vegetables if you so wish. The rest of our group had the Thai fish cakes, prawn cocktail and lamb, chicken and fillet steak (£5 extra) as their main course. All washed down with a few glasses of excellent wind and beers. A good time was had by all ANC will certainly visit again. Enjoy.

Been to this restaurant several times and have always enjoyed the food on the menu. However the menu has changed and the prices have increased. The price increase does not matter to me but the quality and the choice has been slashed. Starters changed. Duck and pancetta has become duck and chorizo and I don't know why it needed changing. Not a patch on the original. I have normally had T-Bone steak when we have visited and each and every time I have happily paid the surcharge and thoroughly enjoyed it. The T-Bone is now not on the menu which is a big disappointment. Service was slow but it was busy and we were late arriving but overall staff are great. The menu is not and the food has taken a downward turn. We won't be back on this performance.

We've eaten here several times over the past few years and have always found the food to be good. Unfortunately that wasn't the case this time. I don't know what's happened to this place but the meal we had last Friday was the worst I've had in a long time. Our party of ten ordered starters, which were passable, and then 2 kids meals, 2 lamb and 6 rump steaks. The order came out wrong at first with the waiter insisting we'd ordered different cuts of steak. This was eventually corrected but that meant that two of our party received their meals around 15 minutes after everyone else. Every single one of the meals was terrible. The steaks that had been ordered as 'rare' were well past 'well done', the meat was tough and chewy, the lamb dishes were cold, the 'crispy' onions soggy and the mashed potatoes on the kids meals were rock solid blocks. These may all sound like minor things but there were so many issues they added up to a very unenjoyable meal. To make matters worse the set menu price has increased by a whopping 40% and is now £18 per person. The quality of the food certainly did not match the price tag. To be fair to the staff they offered us free puds when we complained but we definitely won't be returning. Judging from the recent reviews I've seen on here we're not alone in thinking things have gone seriously downhill at the 1610. Big improvements required!

My wife and I went for an evening meal on a Thursday night and we had a drink in the Jacobean pub beforehand. Nice drinks in a pleasant lounge bar and a friendly staff. All bode well before we went into the 1610 restaurant. Apart from one other diner we were on our own. For starters I had the sticky Chinese beef which was ok and my wife had mushrooms which were bland. For main course I had the Barnsley chops which were quite simply 25 per cent edible meat at best. The rest was fat or gristle. The fried onion strips were cold and the potatoe wedges were soggy. It was quite simply rubbish. I told the waitress i wasn't happy and the manager came to see us. Credit to him that he offered us a complimentary desert but I wasn't after any kind of recompense. The manager stated that he couldn't take the issue up with the chef until tomorrow as he had Concluded his shift. So very disappointing and we won't ever go back, there are plenty of other places nearby to eat.

(which is a shame because it is a lovely setting) the food wasn't nice at all!! the steak was fatty and the chicken wasn't the nicest cut with lots of veins.. the veg was forgotten and brought out ten minutes later.. for starter I had the stuffed mushrooms and these were cold!! most of all the staff were very rude and unhelpful and judging by their faces weren't enjoying their shift in the slightest.. rushing us when ordering and also the table was always full of empty glasses and not one waitress asked us for more drinks so we trekked back through the hotel reception and to the pub THREE times to get our own drinks.. will not be coming again!

We needed a restaurant for my Mum's birthday bash that opened early as we had a 3 year old to cater for. Thankfully the 1610 restaurant opened at 5pm. From the start the staff were unbelievably helpful even though there were 2 wedding breakfasts in progress nothing was too much trouble. The food was fabulous and plentiful from the crab and crayfish starter, woodland chicken on spinach to the 'which do I choose' dessert. Our little one got special attention which made the evening even more pleasurable. I would like to thank the staff for making my mum' birthday meal very memorable. The venue with it's rich decor and beautiful gardens was an added bonus.

My wife and i, decided to celebrate our 1st year anniversary at the 1610 restaurant. We were married at Rogerthorpe Manor. There was a set three course Sunday lunch menu for £17 each. I went for the Beef, my wife chose the lamb. We started with parsnip and sweet potato soup. It was delicious, hot and filling. The main couse was enourmous, with a giant yorkshire pudding, plenty of veg. The lamb was slightly better than the beef i thought. It was slow cooked and very tender. For dessert we had lemon tart and strawberry cheescake. All in all the food was amazing, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is quite small but ideal for couples or small parties. Also we thought very reasonable for £17If i had to pick a fault, my wife's glass had lipstick on (not hers) we asked the young waiter for a replacement. He took the glass, brought the same one back, with still a slight smudge on.We would definately recommend and hope to go back soon!!

As you may have already seen I wrote a review of this place recently and could not praise it highly enough, so decided a second visit was a good idea - how wrong was I? On arrival we were left waiting about 15 minuted before being shown to our table, despite the restaurant being empty. On this visit our daughter was with us and she asked the waitress for advice on her choice of steak, the waitress was very condescending towards her. On ordering we had to wait about 25 minutes for the starter (which was the same as we have had before so know how it should taste) and when it arrived it was barely edible. When our steaks arrived we were very disappointed. My husband ordered a t-bone which when it arrived had rather obviously been trimmed before cooking and when he questioned why it appeared to have been trimmed he was told "that's how a t-bone is supposed to be, don't you know anything?". My daughter and I ordered ours well done, and it was medium at best. The side orders of vegetables took a good 10 minutes to be served after the steak. Not once were we asked if our meals were okay, and when we said we didn't want dessert the waitress tutted and walked off, leaving us to wait another 15 minutes for the bill. We chose not to leave a tip (something we rarely do) as we felt the staff did not deserve it. On top of everything else we paid £18 for six glasses of diet cola! How can a place change so much from one visit to be next?

The kids got straight into a plate of fresh mash, Yorkshire puddings with quality sausages and both of them cleared their plates. My next course was a medium cooked T Bone steak which has to be the best I have ever had. Pudding was raspberry Creme brûlée , a perfect pudding to end a perfect meal. They advertise 2 meals for £13 which isn't quite true. 90% of the menu you have to pay a supplement which ranges from £1 to £5 on each dish and the veg is an extra £1.99. So when you have finished ordering your starter and main the £13 advertised is more like £20 for two courses. Never the less the food was of a good standard and the setting is great.

We waited at the entrance to the restaurant for a good 5mins before someone came to show us to our table, once we were seated our drinks order was taken and arrived promptly. We then placed our order for our starters and main course, after quite a wait the starters arrived which were very nice and well presented. While we were waiting for our main course another couple arrived who were obviously regulars as a big fuss was made and all the attention of the staff focused on them. Our mains arrived and even after asking who had ordered what we had to swap the dishes so we had the correct order but the food was delicious. Only one of our party of 4 wanted a dessert but the others wanted coffees the waitress asked if we wanted the dessert and coffees at the same time to which we said yes but the dessert had been eaten by the time two of the coffees arrived and these had been drunk by the time the last coffee arrived. Having visited the Rogerthorpe on many occasions over the past 30 years I was unsure what to expect because it has had it's highs and lows.We have moved from the area and have not been there for some years. If our experience is anything to go by it most certainly has reached its zenith because our dining experience was a triumph.
