Personally think this is the best fish and chips in Hastings

Highly recommendable! Good food, kind staff.

Children's portions of fish and chips were more than adequate, all freshly cooked, crispy. Highly recommended. Eat upstairs which wasn't crowded, party of 7. Pleasant servers too.

Food is nice and fresh and the servers are super polite and friendly.

When we go to Hastings, 1066 is the fish and chips shop we like to go to. We stopped there few times already. The service always has been very friendly, the fish and chips are pretty good and the portions are very decent. We usually have 2 medium cod and chips and we couldn't run much to catch our train after. The batter is crispy but is not very oily, which is really nice on the stomach. There's little trace of oil left on the plate once the food is finished. As mentioned we went there few times already and we never had any issue, except maybe for the last time, my friend had the small pieces of chips and not much of decent size chips with her haddock (that could be her fault for trying the haddock this time hahah). That's a minor issue and won't stop us to keep coming. The facilities are clean and it's located close to the beach. We definitely recommend this place :)

Me and my girlfriend took a trip to hastings today and were looking for somewhere to have the signature fish and chips and stumbled along this place it's got a lovely family run feeling and the place looks really appealing. It is affordable and the food is delicious with lots of extra side dishes. There is outside and indoor seating aswell as takeaway. I would 100% recommend to anyone.

I had Haddock and chips, partner had cod and chips ordered curry sauce and mushy peas. We had to prompt waitress after fish arrived re extras. Hence why only 4 stars. Food really meaty. We'll go again.

Hastings is awash with fish and chip shops, so many to choose from, I'm glad we chose this one! Services was super quick. The fish was fresh and lightly battered. Chips were perfect! Small restaurant on the seafront, tables upstairs and friendly staff.

Not as good as the reviews suggest. We had friendly service but the quality of the food just wasn’t very good. My fish was undercooked, there was raw batter inside and my chips were brown, oily and over cooked. To top it off they were served in a polystyrene tray. I don’t understand why this restaurant is highly rated, but I’m from Devon so I may be too particular in quality fish and chips. It wasn’t a disaster but I didn’t finish my food, disappointed.

The only place I’ve ever had batter wet and sloppy on the inside. Which was a real shame as the guy running the place was lovely and helpful, we didn’t tell him as we felt awful about it.

Found this place by chance & it does the best fish & chips I’ve had in years best in the area in my opinion the spring rolls are delicious & the curry sauce lovely me & my family will definitely be a regular

Decided to have fish and chips in the spur of the moment and came in here. Warm welcome, food was delicious, I had haddock. Reasonable prices for good food, would recommend.

We had one of the best fish and chips meals ever. Great fresh taste, cooked perfectly not oily and a good size portion. We loved it and will definitely go back in the future. Lovely family business great to see the whole family working together to welcome and service customers.

Appalling service and a very rude lady who I suspect was the owner. The girl at the counter was quite nice. I initially asked for take out as were running out of parking time but then decided to extend and just and eat as the fish and chips took about 20 mins to cook. Once the food arrived kids started eating at the table we were waiting at as I was waiting for my coffee to arrive. And could hear the owner (just a table away) going on to the counter girl how it was it was a take out and now we were eating in which was just rude! I went to the counter to check if we can continue on the table and if there is price difference which I could pay or there is an issue and she mentioned we can use the outside table as the inside is for eat in only. So we moved out, coffee arrived and I asked for a sachet of brown sauce and to my disbelief the yound waitress who seemed to be still is training came back saying she can’t give a sachets as they are in all the sauce boxed on the table inside (none of which were being used except one). Would never go back and regret spending my money at a place who treats customers with such disrespect. Too many other businesses around selling fish and chips, go there and enjoy in peace.

Was on my way to order from my normal go to chippy but when i arrived it was closed. I saw this place open and is fairly new to me so i popped in and was warmly greeted by the staff, Nice conversion to the building and the food was just as good was my usual chippy but the price point was more affordable! What i perceive to be one of the owners came over while waiting and sparked up some good conversation to pass the time. Restaurant is spacious, family friendly with further seating upstairs so if its a takeaway or a sit down meal it ticks the boxes. I'm pretty confident to say i will come here for my chippy fix from now on.

This place is amazing, we visited a couple of weeks ago and the chips are amazing they seem to melt in your mouth. We went again yesterday and sat in. The fish is gorgeous and again the chips are unbelievable. Definitely will be going again. My mrs doesn’t normally eat chips but she said she would eat these every day.

this place is not just a fish bar... its an experience. yes, the 1066 is indeed my annual haunt with my family on our trip to hastings, we have been since it was "the seagull". i can't emphasise enough how incredible the food is. the chips are just mind-blowing, the staff are so polite and welcoming. over the years, the food has just got better and better. my most recent visit, i thought the chips were supreme. by far the best i have ever tasted.

Best fish and chips in Hastings now. And you get to sit at real tables and chairs with no bars underneath. Also not squashed in to fit more tables. Cooked while you wait and up stairs you have a beautiful sea view as well as able to watch the fun fair. Pleasance staff, so helpful. And the prices are cheaper than most of the other places on the from.

We have been regulars at the Seagull as long as I can remember and 1066 carries on the great tradition. And the BEST fish and chips in Hastings !

Lovely little cafe, where the staff are friendly and the food is fresh. I had the normal seaside treat of cos and chips and although I had to wait a little longer than usual the freshness of the meal was top notch. Chips were really good as well as the batter on the cod, light and not greasy at all. There was a good choice to be had on the menu both for drinks and food and prices were very reasonable I thought. If I had a gripe, it would be that sauces were in those nasty, totally annoying little sachets which I absolutely hate. Unfortunately quite common nowadays and it really is a personal thing and in no way takes anything away from the café itself. Would recommend.

Absolutely beautiful fish and chips; perfectly crispy and not at all greasy. The lady that served/ran the restaurant was very friendly, welcoming and cheerful. Although small, we came in with my sons wheelchair and a few bags and it wasn’t a problem to fit us in; she offered to move chairs and allowed us to take our time. The decor is seaside themed and very clean throughout.

Food was decent (as much as we could taste it before it became soup, read further for more details) however: A) they took ages (30min for two fish and chips to take away) and there was only one table taken on the inside; B) don’t expect them to be nice to you in bad weather. While we were waiting, a thunderstorm commenced. So I asked one of the staff if we can eat inside (because it was heavy rain, and we have come to Hastings from another city). One of them said it’s ok, so we started out meal, 3min in another staff member came by and kicked us out into the storm. No exceptions, no thinking minds! Needless to say we got soaked and our dinner was ruined.

Great fish and chips! Really fresh and not greasy! Great service and value. Our spend included a bottle of wine.

Great fish and chips cooked to order. My partner, who is very fussy, still talks about the light, golden batter and the way the cod fell apart, sweet and tasty. The chef came out personally to check that everything was how we liked it. The fish bar hides its light under a bushel, highly recommended.

Denis, the owner of 1066 Fish Bar, hosted our group who were filming in Hastings in the final few weeks of March. He was so friendly & welcoming to our entire party. We also ended up eating at 1066 several times through the week. In my opinion it was one of the best chippies on the front!! I'd definitely recommend popping in to see Denis for some FnC if you ever get the chance.

Came here off the back of a previous visit a while back, was end of day but food was disappointing, pie pastry was soggy, savaloy was flavourless and the burger was devoid of character. Cheap ingredients to cut corners, watered down vinegar for example. Got the second star because the view from up too is nice and the staff were friendly.

Possibly the best fish and chips I've ever eaten. I decided to try this place simply because it doesn't look like all the other chippers on the seafront and so pleased I did. Everything was freshly cooked and the portions are definitely on the generous side. In fact it was so good I made a return visit a week later.

Stopped for lunch at 1066 fish bar in Hastings. Staff so helpful with my partner with mobility issues. Our meal was cooked to order, the haddock and scampi was 1st class. Nice small cafe also has outside tables and does take a way.

Seriously the best fish and chips I have ever had! The fish was beautifully fresh and the batter and the chips were so crispy! The seagull/seaside themed restaurant is also licenced, so you can enjoy a beer or wine with your meal. The owner is a great guy - really friendly and generous - and the prices are very sensible. I will certainly return to have more when I'm back in the area!

I love fish 'n' chips but rarely order as it's usually such a let down. That is certainly not the case here. The chips were lovely and crispy in the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The fish was a really good size, we ordered the medium and could only just finish it, and nice and tasty the batter was really nice and crispy as well. Service was good and the owners were really friendly, I will definitely be returning!

The Large cod and large chips was spot on 10/10 Worth every penny

First time ordering here. Waited nearly 20 minutes for to 2 portions of chips. There wasn't even a cue. Got home to open up the worst portion of chips I've ever bought in this town over the last 24 year. Just rubbish, greasey little bits. I don't think there was actually a single full length cut chip.

Best fish and chips I've ever had! And the calamari? Crispy on the outside and soft squid not chewy..it's a must try! It was very delicious. Excellent service. My 2 kids loves the sweet treat. Definitely will come back.

There are so many places for fish and chips and hasting and we decided to try the Seagull. But we where disappointed, both chips and fish weren't crispy but soft, almost mushy. Can't recommend it.

By far the best fish and chips in Hastings. Beautiful setting with views across the seafront in wonderful setting.

If you dont have a huge budget this is the place for you. Not the best quality, but it is very cheap. Friendly service.

What an amazing owner. Extremely friendly and superb custom. A gentleman that wants to know and love his customers. I felt like I had known this owner the moment I met him. Being from a seaside town, I am quite accustomed to seaside fish bars, however the food in this place is beyond first class. Fresh fried chips and amazing fish with crisp tasty batter. An excellent meal at an excellent restaurant with an amazing and warm and friendly owner. If I could rate 6 stars for this place I would. Thank you for an amazing experience and outstanding food

Seafront Cafe with very friendly staff. However, the fish and chips were disappointing; not proper chips, fish not fresh, the huss was coated in a very unappetizing batter. Wish we'd gone somewhere else to eat.

Great service and a very good menu. I had the breakfast and though it was very busy today our order was taken and served with hardly a wait. Highly recommended.
