The best restaurants serving Spanish food in East of England

Wow!! Amazing find! Location - don’t let the location out you off, it is unusual, but let’s face it if it was in the middle of Cambridge the prices would be ££££. It is hidden away and doesn’t offer great curb appeal. BUT and it’s a big but hopefully you’re not looking for a nice location/building as a priority when looking for good food/service. The welcome and service was second to none! So friendly and welcoming. It felt like visiting a family friend’s home. The food was fresh, perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. All the food combinations worked perfectly and every single plate was extremely tasty. We will definitely be returning and I recommend highly to any foodie lover.

Booked a table, not realising that the restaurant did a Sunday Roasties menu rather than tapas. The choice was good, and the roast my wife had and the muscle dish I had were very, very good. We went back a few days later for the tapas!!

Brilliant food and fantastic service, great for a family gathering or special occasion. Second time we have used, this time food delivered early with simple heating instructions and was equally delicious 😋

Had a very pleasant Sunday family gathering here (24/9/23). The live rock covers band added to the party and thankfully our table was deliberately reserved for us away from the band as we had a small toddler with us who slept through the music. The staff were friendly and very attentive and the relaxed atmosphere made the selection of hot and cold tapas very tempting. All my family thoroughly enjoyed their dining experience and we shared a considerable chunk of the menu. As most of the food is authentically imported from Spain a few items were unavailable but we were expertly guided to suitable alternatives. I wanted authentic, good quality tapas in a genuine Spanish style restaurant and that is exactly what we got! I have no complaints,so thank you El Chigre 2, we will be back soon!!

If you could get 6* out of 5, this would be it. Fantastic food. Amazing service. Great wine. Unhurried good in the best atmosphere you can hope for. It’s unfathomable to me that it’s taken this long to find this unbelievable place. Go there. But make sure you leave a table for us as we will be back.

Tried Abanico on Saturday night and so pleased we gave it a go. The care given to the preparation and quality of the ingredients was obvious throughout. Delicious authentic Spanish courses along with all the necessary instructions to simply reheat in the Oven. We also loved the Spanish themed Spotify playlist, thank you and keep cooking!

These are hands down the best churros I have ever tasted. The toppings are immense and the portions generous which makes up for the per portion cost which seems a little high at first glance, but then when you are handed your tray of Churros, you think it is the best value thing in the world. It is a tiny place. Only had the churros from the store. They also have a roaming food truck which serves good grub.

Managed to get a last minute booking at this very popular restaurant. After several recommendations we finally ticked this one off our ever growing restaurant list. We did go for a couple of tapas for starter and the 600g blonde special steak and sides. We did enjoy our visit but must admit left a little disappointed because the experience didn’t quite the outlay. We do understand the steaks are very expensive but although it was very flavourful it was also quite chewy at times. Couldn’t fault the service it was very good but there wasn’t much in the restaurant that hinted at Galician experience. Was it value for money, at a hefty £126 we wanted it to be amazing and unfortunately this visit didn’t quite hit the mark.

Another update with a new visit - 03/12/24. All members of staff- extremely friendly. Dishes - sooo tasty and full of flavour. We tried some of the Christmas specials. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back. Great atmosphere. This restaurant is amazing, the support they offer the local community is also fantastic and I'm proud to visit and support them.. Updated update 🤣 12/06/24 We went last night and we tried 3 new dishes on the menu, tiger prawns, salmon and chicken, chorizo and halloumi skewers, along with our normal faves here. The food is extremely tasty, packs a punch with flavours. Cannot wait to head back and add a couple of cocktails to the mix. Xx Update - 30th June 2023. Revisited this evening. Good atmosphere stunning food but only visit to eat light tapas at lunch. Main meal quantities proved very expensive.

Came here for an evening out just the 2 of us. Booked last minute but got a table for 2 ok. The restaurant was busy with a large party but our order of tapas came out in good time. Every dish was delicious and tasty. Have been a few times before but not recently. The food didn’t disappoint we will be back.

Extremely underrated pub for food. Doesn’t look like much when you go in, but the food is nothing short of spectacular. You can really feel the love that goes into the cooking. Always get one of the specials! Really fantastic independent pub food. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Great place for a quick bite, the few times we have been here is for brunch and both times we have had avocado with pumpkin seeds and chilli oil and poached eggs on toast, delicious would recommend. The staff are always helpful and have a smile on their face. Thank you 😊

Celebrated a 50th birthday and we couldn’t haven’t been looked after any better by Sarah. We were a group of 13 and she kept us all fed and watered, and the restaurant provided a nice cake at the end. Cocktails were lovely, Tapas was very good, I especially enjoyed the meatballs and ham croquettes but others had their own favourites. A memorable night!
