Lovely food but expensive, only go there for an Xmas treat

Another update with a new visit - 03/12/24. All members of staff- extremely friendly. Dishes - sooo tasty and full of flavour. We tried some of the Christmas specials. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back. Great atmosphere. This restaurant is amazing, the support they offer the local community is also fantastic and I'm proud to visit and support them.. Updated update 🤣 12/06/24 We went last night and we tried 3 new dishes on the menu, tiger prawns, salmon and chicken, chorizo and halloumi skewers, along with our normal faves here. The food is extremely tasty, packs a punch with flavours. Cannot wait to head back and add a couple of cocktails to the mix. Xx Update - 30th June 2023. Revisited this evening. Tried new dishes on the menu. Extremely tasty and can't wait to go back again. Staff as always are fantastic. Xx A firm favourite of ours. A true little gem of a place, either visiting with friends or my husband. Staff are always amazingly friendly and knowledgeable. Food... as always... DELICIOUS.. as are the cocktails.. Nice food. Good service. Will definitely return. There was a drunk man at the table next to us swearing at his lady friend, and generally being aggressive but it didn't spoil our meal, it was just awkward to hear and I felt sorry for the woman that her date wasn't a nice man.

First visit a week ago and the food was delicious the service was excellent, cannot wait to visit again

Delicious food, immersive atmosphere and impeccable service. I really can’t recommend this local gem enough. They also frequently update the menu so do come back to try all the new delicious dishes!

The interior is pretty and the food is good. Really enjoyed the patatas bravas, the mushrooms and peppers were slightly underwhelming for the price. The sangria is a bit sweet but recommended! Wed recommend the crema catalana as a desert.

Nice staff, quite attentive, the choice of tapas was big and if you go, I'm encouraging you to ask for more garlic mayo and such. Works with more than a few dishes.

One of the most favourite places in Old Stevenage. Good food delivered quickly and with a smile.

A bit of a gem in Stevenage Old Town. The food service was very quick which was great. Dishes came out as they were ready. We ordered around 4 dishes per person and there was plenty of food. The dishes were nice but could have done with some extra flavour...something just felt like it was missing. Lots of the dishes were fried which was a shame as I think they would have been just as good if they were baked or poached (e.g. salmon)

The food was only OK. It came out very quickly. The servers are very nice and attentive.

We love coming here for lunch, we are never disappointed with the hospitality and the service we receive. The food is delicious and the staff are so kind and accomodating. I particularly enjoyed the virgin sangria we tried on our last visit, and the biscoff cheesecake special was absolutely amazing!

Nice and lovely touch of Spain. After a few years it still is, even if the portions and prices got hit by inflation (definetly not their fault). a nice add on to Stevenage

We had a yummy light lunch here,with a couple of small beers. Great flavours, service and value. The restaurant is well decorated and executed, nicely authentic. The down part was that the music was too loud, and from tinny speakers, which didn't help. Still, we shall return

Another amazing Tapas Lunch ...Maria really is the most welcoming host and the staff are all so attentive. The Sangria was amazing ...you must try it!!! An absolutely fantastic restaurant with such wonderful Spanish vibes

A good place for a quick lunch, and to try a wide range of tapas. I especially recommend the lunch tapas offer, and between 4 of us, we tried 12 different tapas dishes (please keep in mind that the restaurant requests a minimum of 3 dishes per person). As per many of the other reviews, the house-made biscoff cheesecake was incredible (some of my party said it was the best thing on the menu) and the almond cake was tasty too.

We had a great lunch here, ordering 12 different dishes for the 4 of us. Most of the dishes were exceptional, and we really enjoyed the pork cheek, ham croquettes, and prawns. The bread was also very nice. We got the Biscoff cheesecake and the almond cake, which were both lovely, but the cheesecake was just incredible. An all-round great experience, and not too expensive!

First time we’ve been here and really impressed with the food and service. Had the meat paella which was very good. Service was excellent and food came very quickly. Prices were very reasonable and we’ll definitely be coming again

Had lunch here today. Nice place with great music. Service was also great throughout. The food is decent and the standout dish was the chorizo. The prawns/gammas were also good. My daughter really liked the cod croquettes too. Good value as well. Three dishes for £12 on a lunchtime menu.

Me and partner always come here when we are in the area and we have never had a bad experience the food is absolutely beautiful and the staff always so nice and friendly and helpful it's honestly are favorite place to eat

Went last night to grab some food after a long journey. Such a lovely wide age range with two beautiful little girls on the next table entertaining us! The staff were fantastic, so pleasant and helpful and the food was top class. ¡Estupendo! Muchas gracias.

The food was really great and cater for both vegetarian and non vegetarian! Our server Ella was really lovely and very attentive and made the experience. The service was very fast, but they still allowed us to take out time with the meal! Would 100% come back

Never a bad meal when coming to El Bar De Tapas!! I feel you definitely need to come a couple of times to figure out what you like and dislike however I’ve never not had amazing food. Consuelo and Macy were great and really attentive for us as always.

I’ve been to El bar de tapas before and my experience was fabulous however this time it was even better. The food was hot, flavoursome and delicious, the atmosphere was great, the service was the best I’ve ever had. I even asked for the waitress name “Mia” She was helpful and attentive but not pushy. The gentleman at the front checked in on us and served us drinks with a smile. Hight light was the cheese cake Will be returning very soon x

Been here a couple of times now, and both times it has exceeded our expectations. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, and the food is delicious, and reasonably priced. I am gluten free, and they have plenty of gf options available! The place has a very authentic feel to it, and has a lovely ambiance. Perfect restaurant for an occasion or date night!

Have visited El bar de tapas a few times now and have been blown away by the friendliness of the staff, the buzz of the kitchen, the warm decor, and the team doing what they can to help if you have any issues or concerns. I really think this is more like going round to a friend's for some food, rather than going out to dinner. Relaxed good food, good wine, and willing to try things out and experiment.

Came here for a drink with my partner. We had a couple of small plates and some drinks. The value and quality is very good overall, and very good in relation to surrounding venues in Stevenage. Service was good but clumsy at times, we had three servers ask if we wanted to order more in rapid succession- only comment to make would be that it would he nice to have more coordinated service I.e. just one server attending to our table. Really enjoyed my time here- bit of a gem in stevenage, will definitely be back.

We had a fantastic meal here with our friends. Dishes are a perfect size so you can try quite a few which were all delicious! I can definitely recommend the paella which came as a very ample serving. Super atmosphere and service was great. Couldn’t fault it! We would definitely go back.

Had a great dinner the paella was amazing! The food is really refreshing as it’s different to any other restaurant in Stevenage I also had the cocktails ‘the Carlos’ and ‘dirty banana’ and they was the best cocktails I have had and reasonably priced our waitress was great and really attentive Will definitely return Thabk you !!

My favourite restaurant in Stevenage! The food is delicious, and there's so much to choose from. My personal faves are the patatas bravas, the fried chorizo, and the pulled brisket. I also had the biscoff cheesecake last time and that was fantastic. The staff are so friendly and service is really quick too.

Seated at a table with ample space to speak without the nearest table able to listen! The warm bread and the green salted peppers (I forget their actual name) were delicious. We had 6 dishes between 2 which was more than enough. The non alcoholic sangria was also a nice surprise. Service was excellent and attentive, thank you Lucy! A rare night out with a friend so the different music played enhanced the experience!

I have been for lunch at El Bar De Tapas a few times and have always had a lovely experience, tonight is the first time I have been in the evening and it was a brilliant from the attentive servers and the ambience to the delicious, fresh and hot food it was worth every penny. My dad had the fish paella, whilst we all had various tapas dishes that were all fantastic, a special shout out to the virgin sangria!! Will definitely be back for another visit soon

We visited El bar de tapas for a dinner date following a friend's recommendation and it did not disappoint! Probably one of the best tapas we ever had! Affordable by far and tasteful! We loved the biscoff cheesecake! We will be coming back for sure!

Delightful customer service as always during all our visits. Maria is such a wonderful host who always take massively good care of us when we visit. Food is delicious with generous portions, and the prices are nominal. We would height recommend of this place for both food and ambience.

The food was authentic Spanish and loved the tapas. We went for lunch and enjoyed it very much. Only issue was the churros weren't that good.

My sons took me and 1 of my daughter in laws here on mothers day .the atmosphere was great and food was delisious and staff were amazing .agood time was had by all. Well worth a visit.

We’ve been here numerous times in the past as a couple and larger groups and had some wonderful meals… however … … service is just too quick.! We like meals out to be for the evening and I’m afraid last time we felt rushed . This has been the case in the past to a lesser extent however when we last visited it ruined the evening . The table was booked at 8pm and the waitress took our order for food and ‘first plates’ by 8.10pm. At 8.20 , the tapas started arriving and 8.35 the kitchen lights had been turned off !! We had arrived , eaten , paid and left all within 45 minutes! I’m used to Tapas being ordered in 2 or 3 stages and for the meal to last a decent part of the evening , as it would on the continent . Unfortunately we felt rushed and would have spent an awful lot more (on food and drink!) had the kitchen stayed open! That said , the waiting staff are lovely and food very tasty . We will be back for one last try .

This is a local gem. The restaurant is so quaint, the service is outstanding and the food is so delicious. The lunch time deal they do is very good value for money. I would highly recommend visiting this beautiful tapas restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

Excellent! I've been wanting to eat in for a few years and finally made it. What a treat Carlos and Maria are brilliant, service was perfect, food and drink were lovely, we had 5 tapas dishes, the chorizo in red wine was amazing, garlic and chilli king prawns were excellent. can't wait to try all the dishes. Great selection of drinks. Really surprised how big it was inside. Lovely atmosphere as well with some traditional sounding music and decor. Really can't recommend it highly enough and looking forward to the next visit.
