Don Txoko in Norwich

I've eat steaks over the world, and have to say their steak is one of the best I ever had. The fat was melting in your mouth and packed in flavour, the steak was cooked nicely and served on a hot plate in case someone in the table likes it cooked for longer. We loved the croquettes, and don't forget the prawns, they were super tasty. The only downside was the blue cheese which we found it too strong for our taste. If you are looking for a great experience can't recommend this place enough, but is not a cheap meal, so if your budget is low I would look for a different option. The staff was great and we loved our night out. We will, definitely, be back

A very disappointing evening from start to finish. Never been & would not return or recommend. Waitress rushed to explain the menu. Sirloin steak very expensive as paying mainly for bone & fat. A 950g sirloin only 8 small slices. Not much flavour but greasy as too much fat on it. Apple Pay declined & apparently happens frequently - luckily other means to pay.

It was a very pricey dinner for the food on offer and restaurant ambiance. From our table it was impossible to see the boards and the waiter didn’t understand the menu. We had a selection of tapas starters which were tasty but portion size was light especially on the octopus and sardines. The steak was OK but a lot of fat and a large bone. Loved the patatas bravas. The kitchen music was noisy, the door from kitchen to restaurant needs some WD40 and the loos could do with a make over.

I'll keep it short and simple. The negative: The sirloin steak weight includes a massive bone and is overly salted to the point of being nearly inedible. The vegetables were swimming in oil, and also soggy. The positive: The tomato salad, olives and almonds were very tasty. The menu is small and limited. We thought it was a tapas restaurant, but overheard the waiter saying it wasn't, they do sharing plates. I'm confused. Our meal came to £172 which is ridiculous for two people when you consider what we ate. You get about 10 olives, and a tiny finger bowl of nuts. The salad is served on a plate the size of saucer. Not good.

We came across this place by accident, really pleased we did. Simple good food, made well, We had the brucheta and the jamon first and then we had rib eye and patats bravas. Basque cheesecake finish. A different tapas experience from your usual offering, but this stood head and shoulders above places in the UK we have visited before. What made it more special was the attention of the service team and head chef that happily answered our questions with passion and relaxed confidence. Thank you guys for making our evening special - you have an amazing concept and we wish you the best of luck for the future ❤️

Excellent food and service. A bit noisy

Three of us had lunch at this lovely Spanish Taverna and we were not disappointed. We decided to share everything tapas style and together with the excellent wine we could have been in Valencia or Málaga. We all agreed another lunch was in order in the near future.

Our first visit Don Txoko, and not our last . We had many plates of tapas,and sharing mains it was simply superb !All with a few ! Glasses of white Rjoca again was the perfect accompaniment. The hostess and Chef very informative and very welcoming.My friends from out of town and I will be back !

Very friendly staff. Refined interior. It was a little quiet when we went but I’m sure it’s lovely when it’s buzzing. A few vegetarian options which were enough to get me through (Spanish food is obviously not known for being veggie friendly!) Four tapas and a main for around £45 (no drinks) which is not bad, although we both definitely could have eaten a little more.

We had a seriously delicious meal here. The taster menu was exceptional, and the team looked after our group wonderfully. Would definitely recommend.

2 lamb dishes, 1 Cod, Chorizo tapa, croquetta tapa and gambas tapa. None of it was authentically Spanish, having lived in Spain. The food was mediocre, as was the service. Nothing mind blowing for £180.

Some of the best value that I have had within Norwich. The food is of a wonderful quality when the price is factored in. A very consistent and solid option which caters to all diets.

Managed to get a last minute booking at this very popular restaurant. After several recommendations we finally ticked this one off our ever growing restaurant list. We did go for a couple of tapas for starter and the 600g blonde special steak and sides. We did enjoy our visit but must admit left a little disappointed because the experience didn’t quite the outlay. We do understand the steaks are very expensive but although it was very flavourful it was also quite chewy at times. Couldn’t fault the service it was very good but there wasn’t much in the restaurant that hinted at Galician experience. Was it value for money, at a hefty £126 we wanted it to be amazing and unfortunately this visit didn’t quite hit the mark.

Just delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere. We had octopus and a sharing steak, both of which were some of the best we've eaten. Will definitely be returning!

Following the high rating of the place, I booked for 4 people. Booking was easy, table ready on time. We were served by Jess, who was pleasant and efficient. We chose a variety of dishes, mindful of the varying appetites of the family. Jess politely asked if we ordered enough? Being regular tapas eaters but this being our first time here, we were unsure of the portion size. It turned out that the question was a fair one as the portion size was a little smaller than in our normal tapas bars. The food across the range we ate was very good., complemented by a small range of appropriate wines,

Fantastic Restaurant with top of the line food. Had Lamb Paella for two with my partner and was her favourite meal that I've taken her out on so happy days! Great atmosphere both in the restaurant and given off by the staff as well.

The garlic prawns were bland and the aged blond ribeye very chewy, triple cooked potatoes bravas soft and very little sauce, Not Spanish at all , very disappointing

Absolutely delicious! Unfortunately I didn't take any photos as we just enjoyed our evening so much. My husband and I visited on A Saturday evening for our wedding anniversary and it was just perfect. The atmosphere is lovely, and the restaurant is so cosy. There is outside seating, too and the waitresses were all lovely. We had the padron peppers and croquetas to start, we then had the iberico pork and lamb chops with a couple of sides as main and, of course, saved room for desert! The food is truly delicious. The steaks also looked amazing, and we will definitely be back to try them. I would highly recommend 👌 ⭐️

It's very rare I give a 5 star review but this little restaurant is an absolute gem. We had the octopus, chorizo and aubergine from the tapas menu to start and then the txuleton beef to share which was absolutely stunning. ( The dogs enjoyed the bone when we got back nearly as much as we enjoyed the beef) Lovely food cooked really well and the staff were absolutely brilliant. What more can you ask for on a night out ?

The food is fantastic and I really enjoyed my visit. I nearly didn't go, however as the booking process is a nightmare. There is no online booking, they tell you to email. I didn't hear back and phoned 3 times only to be put thought to the pre recorded message. Eventually I spoke to someone and she just managed to fit us in.... As it was last minute!

Don Txoko is now on our list of favourite places to eat. We can thoroughly recommend the paella, so tasty. The team were so friendly and relaxed, taking time to explain the options. Perfect evening.

Great tapas place in Norwich. Their prawns (gambas) are exquisite!!! Overall fairly priced as well. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent dishes in a lovely environment!

We had a delicious meal at Don Txoko. Sitting outside was just as nice as indoors with the waiting staff very attentive and helpful. Our Tapas dishes were all delicious, each one complementing the other across a range of flavours - especially delicious was the aubergine dish. All round a really lovely evening.

My girlfriend and I came here for our anniversary dinner and were served by Em who was amazing! Excellent service and great recommendations! The food was delicious we left with a smile and a full belly. Em made our experience that bit more special! We will be back!

A real gem of Norwich. Lucky to have the place here! Phoned 24 hours before the booking was needed and they were able to accommodate last minute with a table space outside. Greeted by a friendly waitress who was happy to take questions and offer advice on the menu. Starters of meatballs in a fermented tomato sauce were flavourful and you could really taste that intensified tomato richness in the sauce. We also had the octopus which was so perfectly cooked, such an easy thing to get wrong but it had that perfect firmness without at all being chewy! The aged steak was absolutely incredible, their own in-house aging process really brought out the flavour of the beef and it was cooked just right. Cut to the specified weight upon ordering it felt like a really personalised experience. We also ordered a sharing plate of their special lamb and chimichurri paella which had a lovely subtle herby undertone to the creamy texture. Stacked with lamb chops it was delicious. Couldn't recommend this restaurant highly enough!

I cannot recommend this place enough. The food is fantastic, and the service excellent.

The barbecued fish was a highlight but I was unfortunately underwhelmed by a lot of our order and would have liked more vegetarian options too. Service was slow but friendly, atmosphere buzzy but still relaxing

Lunch for 3 to celebrate my mum's 80th birthday. We decided on a selection of hot & cold tapas, all of which were delicious. Service was excellent. Great drinks selection. Highly recommended & we can't wait to return.

Beautiful place with the nicest staff and amazing food. We had gambas al ajillo and croquetas de jamón, followed by secreto ibérico and patatas bravas. The charcuterie board was lovely as well. If like me you're missing home, or if you're looking for good Spanish food, this will be the perfect choice!

Preservice excellent Service on the night, top notch Food - all starters, mains and pudding were full of flavour and enjoyed hugely! Even the smell of a steak on the next table made us salivate! Would definitely go again!

They have an incredible and actually really good value tasting (chefs) menu. 10 Courses chosen for you, all amazing but just be prepared to try something new. I'd highly recommend it to any foodie, unless you're not a meat eater. There is a large fridge wih pretty cuts of meat in.... Em, who served us was also really friendly and knowledgeable. Even did everything to acclmodate us when I messed up my booking. I still really appreciate it. Props to the chef. I don't see how he could be replaced.

We booked a table for 7 here recently and were very impressed. The staff were friendly, it had a nice atmosphere despite being small, prices were reasonable and the food was fab! We absolutely recommend the txuleton sharing steak with a few sides. The basque cheesecake was also delicious and we liked the wine selection. Absolutely recommend!

Amazing tasty food, friendly and helpful staff and great wine, well worth a visit. We had a few tapas starters between us and then a perfectly cooked Txuleton steak with bravo’s potatoes and roasted vegetables as a main to share. Very full when we left! Recommend you book though!

Brilliant evening out. It’s quite a small restaurant and was very busy, which was understandable as the food was delicious. We will go back, and definitely try the steaks.

Lovely authentic Spanish tapas and lovely wine. What more could you ask for?

Astounding food. The dry-aged steak is simply stunning, a proper steak (one where you don't need to add sauces to make it palatable..).. eat it as it comes (rare to medium rare along with 2 lovely sides (the veg is amazing) - unmissable. Tapas to start, plus superb deserts and wine all add to a most enjoyable evening. Great buzz to the place too.

We enjoyed our meal at Don Txoko but our booked table for two was awful. I do think the portion sizes of the tapas were skimpy and there was no meat in my clams, odd. Our food was tasty but not amazing. There was no beer on tap, again odd. I’m not in a rush to return.

Kind of medium ground being as I never went but Google must be right yeah? Ignore this review and go and find out for yourself like everyone else who appears to have had a mega meal and fantastic experience. Stop being lazy.

Great place for a meal with Spanish atmosphere! Best tapas I had in UK! 100% Recommend

The chef menu deteriated from my previous experiences some time ago, where the macaroon-like burger was amazing and dishes were more creative. While the portion sizes are filling, and they accommodate dietary replacements, the flavouring is abit heavy (too salty with the mushroom entree /too sweet with the desert), and the tuna was dead frozen. The steak's side dish was slightly disappointing. Over not the quality or culinary skill you'd expect from tasting menus, but not extremely overpriced either to be infuriated. Slightly dissapointing, probably

Had better quality meat mant times, but the cooking was fantastic. Service charge added, seated in window with others, so empty place looks busy. Over priced!

The albondigas and pulpo dishes were outstanding. Service from Em and Izzie could not have been better. As ever we were made to feel like valued customers and we will certainly be returning soon.

Bad service considering it wasn't full, forgot our starters and served our sharing steak, didn't come back with a resolution or apology just suggested we buy dessert if we are not full, shoe horned the bill in to rush us out the door and expected us to pay service charge. Steak was nice, although quite fatty. Also they were pre cut so you couldn't really pick which size you wanted so minimum was around 80 pound for 1 steak. Probably would have returned if there was some kind of apology or resolution for forgetting half our meal. Would not recommend or return for how expensive it is.

Absolutely outstanding! We'd been lucky to get a table on their first night opening, then again in December 2023. Food is excellent, delicious steak, gorgeous wine. The staff were friendly and talked us through the menu options expertly. Definitely going back when we're next in Norwich

It has been on my list for a while and I am now gutted I waited so long to visit Don Txoko. One of my new favourite restaurants. The service was amazing and the menu was top drawer. I can't wait to come back and try more!

Really delicious Tapas Great Rioja Knowledgeable wait staff and friendly family atmosphere but still felt sophisticated and special We will definitely book again and highly recommend this hidden gem!

Lovely restaurant, charming service, relaxing atmosphere (loved the guitar music gently playing in the background). The grilled Lamb chops were particularly delicious (and good value) - as were the cheese cake and the Basque version of crème brulée. The charcuterai was also full of flavour - the fine slicing really helped bring that out (although I felt a few more slices might have helped). I was slightly disappointed with the croquets - they tasted good (a chicken and red pepper filling) but there were only three - which didn't seem much for the price (5 would have been more reasonable). We enjoyed the large bowl of padron peppers to share - nicely charred and salty - even though I was the lucky person to get the spanking hot one (which nearly blew my socks off). The Moongazer Pintail was (as expected) excellent - the light crisp flavour worked well with the other dishes - the red sangria was also apparently good - and the small glass of sherry (on the house) much appreciated. Overall an excellent experience - and still good value at £70 for two (including service - happily paid - and VAT). Would recommend to others and hope to return for the steaks on some future special occasion.

Great Spanish tasting menu and the beef was amazing. Unlike other tasting menus I've had, here, halfway through, I was already concerned I might not be able to manage the pudding... but I did...

I should start with the exceptional service offered by the staff members. Their elegance was charming too. We absolutely loved the octopus. It was properly made and was cooked towards perfection. Cannot say the same for the aubergines as they were a bit rubbery (very common mistake outside of the Mediterranean and Asia). All the seafood was very fresh and well-made (not too dry, not too soft. They were slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The chef has preserved all the rich taste.

Wonderful experience in a lovely setting. Thank you for looking after us even though we were a larger group, you made it an amazing night. Highly recommended

Best restaurant we've tried in Norwich! Reminded us of our time on the Camino de Santiago. Authentic feel to the place unlike many UK tapas restaurants. Recommend the lamb chops.

We were given a very warm and friendly welcome immediately we entered Don Txoko. Knowledgeable waitress gave excellent advise on the menu options coupled with extremely attentive service. This was accompanied by an exceptional meal in a lovely setting right in the heart of the city. Definitely recommend a visit and undoubtedly be returning soon.

Food was great, a little pricey but definitely worth the money. I had a few appetisers/small plates as a main meal which worked well and were all delicious. The place is quite small, which can make it nice and cosy but we went on a really hot day so it was a struggle, even with the air conditioning. Staff were all lovely!

Another super meal at this amazing restaurant. The croquettas and charcuterie board were both very tasty, the octopus on very thinly slices potatoes was quite simply a masterpiece, and the wine, Gallina de Piet 'Ikigall' from Cataluna was a great accompaniment. The serving staff are always knowledgeable, friendly and efficient, and the chefs are talented and innovative. Good idea to book as it's not a large restaurant and it's very popular. Once you've been you'll definitely want to return!!

Had a very rare date night with my wife and first time going. Deeana was superb serving us! Food was delicious, highlight was the steak and the wine choices were very well paired, interesting and quality. We had a wonderful evening and will be back again!

We sat outside which was fine although tables a bit wobbly. Our meal was good and service was great. We felt the Triple cooked patatas were a bit salty , however, the other dishes were tasty and nice. Would go again, but need a steak partner to try one of their steaks which are on display inside.

The restaurant itself was lovely and so were the staff. I just thought it was incredibly pricey for what it was. Basically £18 for a big bowl of rice. However, it was tasty as was the wine.

So disappointing, menu looked amazing but ‘aged’ steak was clearly gone off. We complained and they did nothing…

Loved this. Ibérico pork was just amazing and steaks looked and smelt great from round the room. Squid was proper pieces of fresh squid cooked perfectly. Batatas bravas were like the best most fluffy crispy roast potatoes. And the creme Catalana to finish was such a clever change from vanilla creme brulee - subtle, complex and delicious. And you get proper crispy caught rice in the bottom of the paella - smoky and salty - my favourite bit.

Delicious combination of boquerones, calamari, lamb cutlets in a hazelnut romesco, followed by a rice pudding.
