Hawthorn in Norwich

Couple of cocktails in the afternoon 🍸🍹we managed just to beet the crowd and sat upstairs. The two girls were great hosts and once we had our drinks the place filled up quickly. Not normally a cocktail drinker but when on a city break it's nice to indulge. Loads of choices and wish I'd remembered the names, if your passing call in, they also do food and we're busy with that too.

What a lovely, busy little cocktail bar! Not your normal cocktails, so I felt a little giggly when I had 2 cocktails lol! We were first 2 in, the quickly filled up. Girls serving were polite & friendly.

Great cocktails, lovely relaxed classy vibe. I had something that was basically a margarita but with Kummel in it - delish.

Terrific place for grown ups to quietly enjoy artisanal cocktails. Spicy 50, Wolfpack and Rajamaki Highball were all perfect. The decor and music are great and the staff highly competent, friendly and professional.

This is a cocktail bar upstairs of Makers House, open only on weekends and does a really unique menu of cocktails. The bar has around 7 tables and operates on table service, the dark and elegant British decor adds to the ambiance which is most suitable for intimate drinks for 2-3 people. We ordered 4 cocktails among the two of us, all were amazing. A cocktail is £12, expensive, but so worth it. Will be back for more!

Update March 2024... This place still lives up to the high standards we saw in 2018/19. Excellent cocktails, pricey, but PROPER, made with pride in what they do. Nice staff, and feels as fresh as when we first visited. Original Review from 2018: Wow, what a great place. Tucked away above another bar in a nice part of town. Probably the best cocktails in the city. Table service and brilliant staff. Very, very impressed. Expensive, but you get what you pay for here.

I had probably the best cocktail of my life here - the corsage. It was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is cosy and welcoming with great service. Perfect for an intimate date.

Best cocktail bar I’ve seen in Norwich so far. This place actually has a decent back bar of spirits. Really nice staff that serve high quality and great tasting cocktails consistently. The decor is very nice and has a warm ambiance and amazing table lamps. We went around 10pm on a Saturday and there was one woman on another table that had clearly overindulged and was being a touch disruptive to the otherwise exceptional atmosphere. The bar bites were delicious. We opted for the croquettes with iberico ham and will be back to have them again. We had six cocktails between the two of us and each was delicious, well presented and had great quality ice (yes it makes a huge difference) Will be back again to try the downstairs bar/cafe.

Great food and excellent service! Best brownie I've ever had as well. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back.

We were charmed by Jacob and Jack and probably stayed far too long. Classy and cosy venue for a glass (bottle) or two of wine. Our new fave bar in Norwich!

Great service; great cocktails; nice little venue- never feels crowded, great for a quiet drink at the end of the night! Would recommend talking to bar staff about your favourite drinks instead of just going with what's on the menu - staff know their stuff and will make you anything!

Cute little place with beautiful décor, artisan cocktails and tasty snacks. Bear in mind this place is super tiny, so there's a good chance they will be full of you get there late!

Great cocktails (on and off menu options - if you can't see anything you like ask the barman for suggestions). Nice chilled out bar upstairs with plenty of seating.

Discovered this place just recently and man they have one of the best cocktails in Norwich! If you want a more quiet place, upstairs is where I would recommend that you sit.

Over the past year we have held a few Good Egg Entrepreneurs events at Hawthorn. Richard and his team have always been amazingly brilliant - nearly as good as those cocktails ;) Richard is an absolute star and really helped us out, when I was taken ill earlier in the year. Really appreciate his kindness and all round mixology genius. I hope we will be back again soon!

Even with the venue on the cosy side they allowed me take over and host a (small) hen party here, they were so accommodating with my requests (decorations, they brought in canapés for us from Fig Bar which were delicious and even allowed me use a playlist). The service was impeccable. Lovely little intimate bar with great staff. Highly recommend

Have had drinks here on a few occasions now. Staff definitely have no problem in creating a very reliably good dirty martini - not too common in East Anglia! Pleasant surroundings, pleasant staff, a little tapas menu.

One of the best cocktail bars i ever had the pleasure of being in. Its a small bar in the city center that is a bit hidden away from the public on the second floor. The selection of cocktails is a bit small but excellent, we had 4 cocktails in total and they were amazing. There is a really nice atmosphere and a good selection of shots on the back of the menu. We havent tried it, but seeing the massive amount of bottle in the bar, I'm sure that if you want a cocktail and it isn't on the menu you can ask the bartender to make it for you.

In my opinion this is THE cocktail bar to visit in Norwich!! Have spent many evenings here and always have the best time. Staff are always so great!

For cocktails, Hawthorn is hands down the best bar in Norwich. They always nail my fussy Manhattan requests, and I've yet to be disappointed by one of their original drinks. If you like Margaritas, 'The Wolfpack,' a fixture on the menu in the upstairs bar, is a must-try. Downstairs, most drinks are only a fiver between 5 and 7pm, which for decent liquor, skilfully mixed, is an absolute steal. The bar's strength is its drinks. Ambience-wise, it's pretty plain and no-nonsense. It could probably use some soundproofing to make it less echo-y in there. Personally I'm glad to find a cocktail bar with no stuffed wildlife or barbershop equipment in it, but if you're looking for date-night ambience, Hawthorn is probably not it.

Fantastic cocktails in the heart of Norwich's "hip" bar/restaurant area. Downstairs for tinder dates and pornstar martinis (they sell great cocktails too), upstairs for low light, intimacy, and table service with exceptional drinks. Highly recommended.

Popped in for the first time a weekend or two back after food at Haggle, and I was really impressed! First off, It looks great; from the layout, to the seating choices, to the branding. However, it was the guys' cocktail knowledge that really stood them apart from others - they had a cool little menu that satisfied most of the group, but I'm a sucker for whisky and gin based cocktails, so I threw a couple of curve balls at them - they didn't just know every one, but they were some of the best I've had! Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys good cocktails, and/or wants a good bar to go to after food down St Benedict's. Keep up the great work guys!

Bloody love Hawthorn. Ever-changing cocktails that never fail to deliver. Would highly recommend THIS is the place to go for cocktails and if brick pizza is involved your on to a winner. Just go there and enjoy.

If you like mojitos, avoid the place. Their rum is substandard.

Tiny with fantastic cocktails. Makes you feel much cooler than you are. Like a film noir. Set in a side street bar. Nowhere to park your car.

The cocktails here are fantastic and the service is the best in town - super friendly and attentive. I'd recommend going between 5pm and 7pm for a slightly cheaper cocktail list and bar snacks. Hawthorn is a great place to go for a treat. We visited with a couple of friends who came to visit Norwich for the weekend and this was one of their favourite places. Highly recommended.

I can recommend the Coronet Martini. Tanqueray, rinquinquin, hopped grapefruit bitters for a sweeter gin hit than a dry martini.

Excellent cocktails. Always something new to try. Lovely to sit down and have table service, super friendly staff. Stylish surroundings, my favourite cocktail bar by far.
