335-337 Old Street Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch, London EC1V 9LL England, England
Wasn't sure at first as considerably quiet for a London rooftop last week however, we got over that pretty quickly, settling into a great sofa area all to ourselves with unobstructed views and the staff could not have been friendlier! So much so, having obliviously left the bar some hours later, a lovely young barman chased me out of the building to return my (new Mulberry) sunglasses!
Can't comment on food however, having already been at Jin Bo Law (not remarkably welcoming!) i can confirm the prices are totally reasonable for London.
Hidden gem? I think so & would definitely recommend.
Ps Big thank you to all the staff for putting up with us and our matching dresses and for changing the music! x
Bar staff just have no idea what’s going on.
We went here for an event (otherwise would not have been my choice)
£18 for a double vodka with soda water + just tonic water, no alcohol. So either the tonic water was £5 or my double vodka soda was more than £13 (which is my Shoreditch standard). They made my drink with water, not soda and had to make it again.
Only Guinness on tap, no other beers - just a strange set up.
Would be so easy to make this a decent bar.
I am currently writing this from the smoking area in Cargo. We have been here for 20 minutes and I have never felt such a dull atmosphere. We paid £20 for entrance- extortionate! There are two rooms, for ONE OF THE ROOMS there are no bags or jackets allowed, bear in mind my bag was checkedand I paid £20 to get in! Essentially to get in to that room you have to pay the cloakroom charge 😡 A single shot with a mixer is £11.50. SINGLE SHOT. Please do not waste you money. My full time job is now an advocater for anti-Cargo club. Let me remind you it was £20!! I was shocked. Many people have had phones and money stolen. STEAR CLEAR! Xx
We didn't get to eat, we got up and left in frustration at being ignored.
We'd asked at reception where the cafe was on entering the hotel and it was pointed out. We sat ourselves down, took off jackets, browsed the menu. Talked about what to order. No-one greeted us. There were 2 waiters standing talking to each other. We kept looking over at them expecting some recognition that we'd seen the menu and ready to order, but they were clearly engaged in conversation about something else more important than customers.
After about 5 or more minutes of apparently no interest in acknowledging us, we got up and left. On our way out one of the waiters nodded and acknowledged that we were leaving. No attempt to talk to us. Ask why, since we'd been there a while without eating or drinking. Say anything. Nothing.
We were there for a bit of a celebration and felt ignored so decided to go elsewhere.
Can highly recommend "Prawn on the Lawn" for amazing seafood and friendly engaging service!
This place no longer exists so don't buy a groupon. We bought a groupon and arrived at the postcode which was a pub. The staff directed us to another location and there was nothing there. We are now trying to get a refund which is proving difficult.
