The best restaurants serving Other european-cuisines food in Colchester East of England

We needed a cup of tea and happened to be close by so popped in and browsed the books etc and had a superb cup of tea. Pot of tea for 2 with a biscuit £3 cant go wrong and for a good cause.

We are a coffee morning group who enjoyed a wonderful Christmas lunch at The Three Tuns. We all agree the food was cooked to perfection with a fun and friendly atmosphere. Maria is a super cook and Mike a great host.

Came with friends as it was recommended. Friends traveled from Chelmsford, us from Sudbury so this was fairly central. 1st hurdle is finding the carpark! Signage is zero! A drink in the bar before seated for dinner. Dining room was fairly empty (3-4 other tables seated) and bright. No music or background noise. We all felt the other tables were listening to our conversation. We’re not noisy, (60-70yr olds) but felt very exposed. Table was laid with cutlery and side plates. No nibbles or bread offered before or while waiting for our order. Scallops were enormous disappointment. About 10 tiny scallops served on a nice sauce. Never have we had tiny (1cm size) scallops in a restaurant, should be serving 2-3 decent sized scallops with roe. These were the tiny ones sold frozen in bags at supermarket. Steak choices, Rump or fillet. No sirloin or ribeye. and boys ordered extra side or spinach to make it a mansize meal. The girls both ordered prawn /seafood pasta. Pasta papadelle was over boiled and stodgy, prawns were tiny (shrimp sized) and minimal. £33 for pasta is extortion. I left 50% of mine as it was inedible. Didn’t have desserts as meal was disappointing enough. Sad as this is marketed as fairly high-end but it isn’t. Beautiful refurb of the building but not a great dining experience.

I am surprised to hear the great reviews for superb afternoon tea . Unfortunately it was not the same for us. Went for a Mother's day gift afternoon tea. Standard but would not return. Sandwiches were dry, bacon inside was mostly the fat . Small cakes were not homemade either. Service was perfect, very attentive throughout. Lovely friendly staff. Shame the food was a letdown. We have had much better afternoon teas .

Love coming to Nandos. I had to lea e a review in regards to how good the staff are here. They really what make co.ing here great. A big shout out to Michelle, who is working the sunday shift 14/10/2024. I had an issue with lifestyle vouchers that ended up with ten long codes that Michelle had to type in. Michelle did it with grace and a great sense of humour.

Overnight stay. I’ve never been charged a service charge for staying in a hotel, not right to add on hidden charges. One of the managers was bordering on rude. I asked for some more tartare for my fish at dinner and was told she could see it glistening on my plate. I was given some tartare though. Last orders before 11, even though we were residents and made to go to bed at 11:30pm. Coffee and chocolates on arrival was one chocolate each in our room and make it yourself. Overpriced even on an offer and won’t stay again. Breakfast was excellent and the lady who served us then was lovely, therefore 3 stars.

Chicken was put on the coals but then taken raw from there and put in the pizza oven so it was baked chicken. Chilli sauce tasted like a can of tomatoes puree and chilli, result was a very soggy kebab.

Horrendous!!! Over an hour late! Paid £20 for a mixed kebab selection and got a diner meat kebab with some burnt chicken. All cold. Tried calling the restaurant to see if they could resolve this but was greeted with utter rudeness. Will never order from them again. Disgrace

Excellent table service, cheerful and prompt. Food very tasty, ordered and cooked within 15 minutes. Good ambience, great views if outside, all m all a good stop for brunch, will be back. The counter food looked delicious !
