This is well worth a stroll to by the river, an oasis only a couple of minutes walk away from the main town area. The gentleman who served us (helping out for the day) was very friendly and we had a nice chat about where we were from and where we were going. He was spot on about the spectacular drive we would have the next day on our way to Anglesey. The coffee was really good, just the pick me up we needed on our travels. Highly recommend as a pleasant coffee stop in Hay on Wye. (And of course there are also books…)

Great little place, burgers are really tasty and big portions for the sides. Very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend!

Really overpriced. We ordered 2 spaghetti bolognaise, fishcakes, steak open sandwich, 2 soft drinks and a tea and coffee and paid £78.50. For what we had it was terrible. The only acceptable meal was the fishcakes. The spaghetti bolognaise (£18) was full of water on the plates and small portions. The steak open sandwich had 1 small slice of thin beef on it (£17). It took ages to come, and the spaghetti bolognaise x 2 arrived way after the other two items. Really poor. Almost £80 for lunch and most of us went home hungry. Would definitely not recommend.

Just returned from a short stay at Hay on Wye and visited this cafe every day! Really friendly staff, fantastic coffee and we also treated ourselves to a slice of carrot cake on our last day which was divine! We looked at the menu and there were lots of lovely things that we could have had if we were staying for breakfast or lunch. A good excuse to go back!

Disappointing, overall. The food was very overpriced and not as described - we ordered the carrot and coriander soup, which was definitely actually tomato - and the table was dirty. The very young staff all seemed to be doing work experience, and none of them wanted to be there. It took three attempts to get our table cleaned, and the girl taking our food order was completely disinterested. This was a real shame, and to me it suggests a management problem - you can't just hire teenagers and expect them to do the full workload of wait staff. The ambience was also really weird. It felt like a school canteen. The decor is very unappealing, feeling more like a leisure centre than a cafe. This place is definitely coasting on being the nearest cafe to the carpark, and one of the few cafes to be open after 4pm. I honestly recommend just bringing a flask of tea in your car and a packet of sandwiches.
