We booked a table for Sunday lunch and upon arriving and walking into the main bar, we were given a very cold welcome bordering on rude by the 2 ladies behind the bar. We ordered some drinks and were told we’d be taken into the restaurant soon. We were seated at a table just as you went in, which was very tight so as other customers came in we were knocked. The bizarre thing is the two ladies that served us were the same two that has given us the cold welcome. It was really was bizarre as they were delightful and welcoming, we did wonder if they both had identical twins.

Having banger hours to kill in the vicinity in a Friday afternoon I decided to take a look around some Midsomer Murders filming locations and popped along to the Six Bells. At the time of visiting it was very busy with lots of locals introducing themselves to the very recent new landlord and landlady, both of whom were very friendly and welcoming. At the time of visiting it was not possible to order food as kitchen equipment was in the process of being replaced and catering will start in the coming days. That’s a very fair reason and new business owners often can’t get everything going perfectly from day one. A garden at the rear along with an outdoor area at the front makes this the perfect place to be for a summer’s evening drink. The venue and toilets were clean and I wish the very best of luck to the new people running the establishment. Hopefully the food will be great as the local butchers popped in to introduce themselves and their trade.

A very pleasant cafe with outdoor seating in the picturesque village of Dorchester on Thames, just outside Oxford. Parking is easy and there are horses and llamas to see in a neighbouring field. The food is tasty, well presented and reasonably priced. My salt beef sandwich was excellent, and my wife enjoyed her chocolate and walnut cake. The village and its abbey are also worth a visit.

Disappointed booked for my son’s birthday as we have been many times. Ordered drinks only to be told this was an old menu and the lager was no longer available and they hadn’t received the new ones. We ordered the buttermilk chicken which we have each time we go, so disappointed the chicken arrived with a pile of Lettuce just dumped on the top no presentation, no sauce no coleslaw and the chips came a minute or so after and were cold. Charging the same price for less food. Unfortunately this has ruined it for us and we won’t be back.
