Do not be put off by the slightly dull exterior of the Royal Oak, inside is superb and at the rear are tables overlooking open countryside. A very friendly welcome from the landlord and the offer of freshly cooked food is all that two weary and hungry walkers could ever hope for. Having chosen the ‘all day breakfast’ we were not disappointed. It was fantastic value for money.

We went for Mother's day. Despite being very busy the staff and service was excellent. The food was sooooo tasty. My pavlova melted in my mouth. Our daughter who came with us wants to go back for her birthday lunch. And they are dog friendly.

After a refreshing Sunday walk with friends, we stopped at The Gate Inn, and it turned out to be the perfect end to our day. From the moment we stepped inside, we were welcomed into a warm and homely atmosphere that immediately felt inviting. The highlight was undoubtedly the roast dinner—an absolute treat. Everything was cooked to perfection, from the succulent meat to the crisp yet fluffy roast potatoes, all complemented by rich, flavorful gravy. The portion sizes were generous, leaving us happily satisfied. Beyond the food, the service was exceptional. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble, and their welcoming nature added to the overall experience. To top it all off, the prices were very reasonable, making this an all-around fantastic visit. With a beautiful setting and a truly comfortable ambiance, The Gate Inn is a place we’ll definitely return to. Had a nice bacon baguette really nice good price but feel ripped of paying £3 for supposed American pancakes turns out they are mini ones with syrup, kind of feel I got ripped of there.
