The best restaurants in Marshside Canterbury South East

Do not be put off by the slightly dull exterior of the Royal Oak, inside is superb and at the rear are tables overlooking open countryside. A very friendly welcome from the landlord and the offer of freshly cooked food is all that two weary and hungry walkers could ever hope for. Having chosen the ‘all day breakfast’ we were not disappointed. It was fantastic value for money.

A long time since I visited this pub, once a favourite many years ago. I came for lunch as I had seen the postings on Facebook about a new menu. Came early so not at all busy. Excellent 'pub grub' menu choices, expertly and quickly cooked and served. Very reasonable prices. The usual Shepherd Neame drink choices. Looking forward to visiting when the fire is lit.

Had a delicious cooked breakfast. Been going there for years whilst my car is being serviced. Genuinely kind and friendly staff, excellent value and a large selection of freshly cooked and prepared food. Very clean too. Every visit I get a takeaway sandwich for lunch! The bread, white or granary is wonderful. I see the lunch deliveries being prepared and going out and would definitely order those if I lived closer.

We had such a lovely time and were really well looked after. We will be back! X

A Sunday stroll with a twist! 🥾🍃 10K steps through the deceptive beauty of Westbere Marshes, catching up with my cousins along the way. We wrapped up the walk at the local pub with some well-deserved cider — the perfect way to end a Sunday outing. Cheers to good company and fresh air! 🍏🍻

Beautiful home made food, my husband had prawn cocktail & the steak and he really enjoyed everything that was put in front of him, I had Halloumi fries (so yummy) & homemade burger that was so delicious... Food presentation Top marks,.. Staff lovely & smiley, polite & smart,.. Top marks for the chef & his kitchen staff, great atmosphere & Dog friendly.

We arrived at the Gate Inn just when they had stopped serving food - oh no! The lovely bar lady asked the kitchen if they could possibly do two more lunches and they agreed. We were so hungry and very happy we could get something before we drove home. The fish pie was home made and the mashed potato was smooooth! But best of all we liked the friendly atmosphere. Thank you for fitting us in for lunch! xx

Had a nice bacon baguette really nice good price but feel ripped of paying £3 for supposed American pancakes turns out they are mini ones with syrup, kind of feel I got ripped of there.
