The Ship Inn Itchenor
West Wittering, Chichester
03/05/2022: Booked several months ago for 4 people to stay 2 nights at the ship apartment whilst seeing our friends in Itchenor. 2 days before we were due to arrive, on a bank holiday weekend, the ship cancelled our accommodation booking without an explanation. Thankfully the Yacht Hotel nearby had rooms so we stayed there although at a cost per couple of an additional £100. We also had a dinner reservation for 8 of us in the ship for the Saturday evening, the ship cancelled that event too again very last minute saying the chef had a migraine. We ordered takeaways from the Italian instead but how are you possibly able make any plans with the ship involved when they treat customers this way. Whatever is going on there I can't say although for now my advice has to be to stay well clear.
27/04/2022: Went on a Sunday for the roast which was hideous and way over priced. It was slow at coming out and it came out cold, the potatoes were burnt and tasteless, veg was bought out separately and not on the plate which I wasn't expecting and there was nowhere near enough veg served for 7 people. The cauliflower cheese was not cauliflower cheese, it was basically just cauliflower, the meat was chewy, low quality and contained multiple amounts of gristle. The staff didn't appear to know what they were doing, one would ask you something and then another would come and ask the same thing like "Do you want to order dessert", well your colleague just took the order! Complete shambles. The pudding wasn't much cop either. The apple and rhubarb crumble had barely any rhubarb and rock solid apple, it had no flavour other than sugar. This used to be a great pub years ago but I don't think I'd ever go back now

Duke & Rye
Chichester South, Chichester
16/04/2022: Shockingly bad! Very poor staff, untrained, exceptionally slow service. My order for tuna melt with chips took 30 minutes to arrive cold and over cooked chips, the “over worked “ person responsible for laughingly preparing the food was overheard to say “I am only here to melt some cheese “ which he couldn’t even do properly.I asked for some tap water, which was drawn from the sink behind the bar, by the same cheese melter, in a dirty lipstick coated glass!Very very poor
10/04/2022: First time up in Chichester. We saw this while hanging around the cathedral. Old church now changed into a pub. Lovely place to go for a drink or some lunch. Nice and big loads of seating. Has a lovely cozy area if you just want to chill and have a quiet drink. Food was good. We had the sandwiches and they tatsed great and good portion size. Good value for money. Would defo be back.
