The Richmond Arms

Funtington, Chichester
10/08/2018: Some friends took us here as a thank you. Lovely rustic decor in keeping with the building. Very interesting menu - I started with a salad of broad beans and smoked duck, the others enjoyed a crispy poached egg, Scotch egg and a lobster salad in a tortilla cone. We had grilled squid in a poppadum as a main and we agreed the best squid we had ever eaten! Pork belly was also much liked. Home made ice creams to follow.
09/08/2018: I have eaten here several times and never been disappointed. There is always something new and different to try on the menu. Most pub menus are much the same but not here.

10/08/2018: Had a great English friend visiting, lives in LA and wanted somewhere special.
05/08/2018: Great Sunday lunch at our favourite restaurant ‘as always the food was first class and to eat outside again in such beautiful surroundings was a real bonus ‘service was fantastic keep up the good work

The Deck

Southbourne, Chichester
19/08/2018: I ordered from the specials menu chicken breasts on bubble and squeak with Dijon mustard. The chicken was a little dry but the sauce more than made up for that. My sister had the cod which looked delicious and by her empty plate was. The service was average one of our sweet s was forgotten although we were reassured it was coming.
19/08/2018: unfortunately I had not booked a table, and as it wasnt the hottest of days, we had to sit ouside, but had a lovely warm wrap to cover us up. \My friend had the Quiche and |I had the Bubble and Squeek cake, which was gorgeous. plus a portion of chips each. this is a lovely place to eat. even on this cold day,to be able to look across at all the boats etc.. was great. the service excellent. and the Waiters/waitress,s. very pleasant. I have eaten inside, but just for coffee and cake. but again service etc. faultless. really worth a visit, but do book. if you want to eat inside at lunch time.

The Millstream Hotel and Restaurant

Bosham, Chichester, >100£
08/08/2018: I have been a regular visitor to the millstream hotel for several years using both the restaurant and Marwicks. yesterday I took my partner as a birthday treat to the restaurant .
29/07/2018: Nice afternoon tea served in the garden after blustery walk around Bosham harbour. Lovely setting and attentive staff.

The Elsted Inn

Harting, Chichester, <20£
28/08/2018: Based on reviews we picked the Elsted Inn as a ‘halfway house’ to meet some old friends from Hampshire. Perhaps we were unlucky, but none of us felt particularly satisfied after our visit.
28/08/2018: Kind and lovely service matched with food that would be considered exceptional in top tier restaurant. We had the chicken breast and it melted in our mouths and tasted like something from heaven. We will definitely treat ourselves to a return visit, even after 64 mile trip from home. Thank you to the lovely owner who designed a cocktail especially for us. Would completely recommend for anyone looking for an excellent meal in a warm and friendly pub.

The Three Horseshoes

Harting, Chichester
27/08/2018: Wanted to try somewhere new for bank holiday lunch with the family and liked the sound of this pub from previous reviews so booked a table a few days ago. I'm glad I did so as it was busy today. Sadly the weather was rather miserable so we weren't up for eating in the large garden with the lovely views and roses. Inside was old style pub - rustic wooden tables with old photos on the walls and flagstone floors. No pretentions and very friendly with a buzzy atmosphere. Obviously a popular spot and we could see why when our food came promptly. It was very tssty and good quality. We enjoyed 2 Selsey crab gratin (see pic) and 2 giant Yorkshire puds with roast beef and mash and a side of fresh veg. Portion sizes were just right so we also had room for dessert - the 2 trifles (see pic) , raspberry Pavlova and apple and blackberry crumble were all voted excellent. It was one of those blackboards where lots of dishes appealed and in hindsight we don't think any of the dishes included chips - you can't say that about many pubs and you still would not call this one a gastro pub. Our dog was also made welcome and afterwards we had a lovely walk up on nearby Harting Down on a section of the South Downs Way. An excellent bank hol day out! We will return.
26/08/2018: This is my second visit here. Last year was in Autumnal sunshine with the glorious views of the countryside. Today was in grey summer rain. THe Three Horseshoes shines whatever the weather. The staff are so hospitable for their patrons, the children and their dogs. It is a joyful place full of people enjoying the company to their friends and families. The food is absolutely outstanding. Served efficiently on lovely wooden tables. It is all freshly cooked with lots of lovely vegetable or big salads. The black board is always full of too many good things to choose from. I would also save room for a homemade dessert. My favorite is the fruit crumble with the custard...

04/08/2018: I cycled to meet a friend for lunch here as on my training route. Parking for cars at back and pleased to view bicycle rack. Some on road parking if car park full. Had not booked but availability. Lots of seating inside and outside. Really pretty front and back seating with shaded areas decorated with lovely flowers and plants. Nice areas out back and nice wrought iron tableware for couples.

19/08/2018: Had a lovely holiday to the witterings topped off by visiting this lovely cafe! Yesterday we had the creme brulee brownies they make and they are just delishious! We brought some to take home And also returned today for some waffles and pininis!
23/07/2018: This is a super cafe with absolutely excellent coffee, prepared with care and the knowledge of what is required to make a great coffee. With your coffee you are given a sample of EXQUISITE CHOCOLATE, a very special treat, which is available to purchase.

Halfway Bridge Inn

Easebourne, Chichester, >100£
28/08/2018: We had booked a table for a light lunch but were late by more than an hour. Although the kitchen was due to close in 15 minutes, we were overwhelmed by the super friendly service and excellent food. The various sandwiches ordered were all of a very high standard and tasted delicious.
27/08/2018: Food is good but not great, staff are very helpful and the whole place is a just easy going and relaxed. travelling on the wonderful A272 this is a great lunch stop. Try it.

The Horse guards inn

Petworth, Chichester
27/08/2018: Excelllent food and service as always. The steak as good as I’ve had in Hawksmore, London. My only issue is it’s always booked! Looking forward to our next visit.
27/08/2018: Really eclectic little place with great character. Staff friendly and interesting menu. Very relaxing evening meal

Drift-In Surf Cafe

East Wittering, Chichester
11/08/2018: Great coffe, seaside surfer ambience, not massively comfortable seats but food looked good. Friendly helpful staff.
04/08/2018: I had cheese and ham pancake, was much better than expected truly delicious. My wife had a salad bowl that was massive and well thought through. Slices of cake for dessert was great. Drinks were good and can’t wait to come back to try granola smoothie. Lovely staff.

Tiffins Tea Room

Petworth, Chichester
30/08/2018: After a lovely few days in the area we promised our daughters we would end our trip with an Afternoon Tea. This place looked lovely however as soon as we set foot in the door we were regretting it and wish we had of turned round. We had a rather unfriendly ‘welcome’ from an older member of staff and shown to a table where our salt and pepper pots were immediately taken away and a couple of magnetic doodle boards were quickly given to the children. On the table was a notice for a special teatime treat consisting of sandwiches, scone, cake and tea/coffee.The lady came to take our order and my partner ordered this. He was abruptly told he could not have it unless everyone on the table had it. She said it was so one wasn’t ordered and shared. We said we are all ordering other things but she flatly refused to sell the ‘teatime treat’ . Rather confused we ordered other sandwiches. My girls, aged 4 and 7, were brought there two sandwich squares on a plastic plate accompanied by a rather chewed up plastic fork. Had they have been babies in high chairs I wouldn’t have minded (by the way we also had our 1year old with us and were not offered a high chair or chair so she had to sit on our lap to eat) but they stopped using baby cutlery along time ago. We decided not to hang around for the cake and scones so paid just short of £30 for our rather average sandwiches and 4 drinks. I am sure if we did not have children we would have been welcomed with open arms but the attitude and disapproving looks of the woman were appalling. Perhaps they should add a sign on the door to say ‘no children allowed’ to save her the trouble of having to them set foot in her cafe.
26/08/2018: My husband and I popped in as we walked round the town Very friendly Purchased some home made jam and Chutney Had tea coffee and victory spounge Well worth a visit

Hare and Hounds

Funtington, Chichester, 20-30£
05/09/2018: Visited for a lovely family wedding reception. The pub gave us full use of the rear garden, which is beautifully kept, and backed by fields containing cows. A lovely quiet setting for a special afternoon with friends and family. We were provided with a hog roast - probably sourced externally - but the pub was busy and the drinks were great. We loved the original, cosy interior. Definitely worth another visit!
15/08/2018: Having enjoyed our meal here last time, thought it would be a good idea to take a couple of close friends for a Sunday evening meal, we arrived early so picked a shaded table outside (very hot) & had drinks. The Sunday menu arrived & at first I was a bit disappointed as I just presumed we could choose from the weekday one (I fancied a steak) but after my tasty fish cake starter came the loveliest Cottage pie I have ever tasted apart from 'our lasses'...... we had all chosen the pie & all agreed hooray for Sunday menu :-)

Petworth, Chichester
22/08/2018: Popped in for a quick drink before checking into our railway carrage stay, next door. A lovely friendly pub with a great selection of drinks. We sat out in the garden on a sultry afternoon and ended up staying ages. Peaceful and lovely. We returned in the evening for dinner, and enjoyed a lovely steak and a burger....but there were also lots of other exciting and different things available. Candle lit tables and a nice setting made the whole experience enjoyable.
21/08/2018: I cannot fault the food, I just found the menu limited and the kitchen seems to always miss something of the plate. The pub its self is lovely and welcoming. I would go back

Old Mill Cafe

Wisborough Green, Chichester, <20£
28/07/2018: Great little Italian style cafe, good coffee, and pastries. We had breakfast here too which lovely. They also serve to what looks like a great lunch menu we will be back to try it out.
24/06/2018: Heading to the south coast the pretty way on a Sunday morning after a Gatwick drop off, this was a very welcome discovery.
