The Chelsea Kitchen

Stanley, Kensington and Chelsea
26/04/2020: I was there with some of my family members for dinner and all I can say is that the food is amazing and the staff as well. I definitely recommend and I sure will go back!
09/04/2020: Even during these crazy times, when ordering a take away the people who own and run this restaurant is more like a family that make their customers feel like extended family. The food is unbelievable and the service is exceptional. They always underpromise and over deliver.

Brasserie Zédel

West End, City of London,Westminster, 20-30£
14/04/2020: Our last visit to Zedel was in June 2019 so it's taken me some time to review. To say I adore this place is a massive understatement. The atmosphere, the service, the drinks, the food and the attention to detail is second to none. We will go back again and again as it never disappoints. Thank you so much and hoping to get there very soon.
18/03/2020: Was in London last weekend and went here as a friend of my Daughters eats here often. The atmosphere is very London (or Paris??) 1920 or 30’s or WWII and is quite nice - but a bit too bright. But not overly so. You could just imagine a load of Officers back from the front on leave drinking their Pims or Pink Gins.I did not think the menu that comprehensive as I’m not really a Pork fan nor fish. So I went for what I thought would be the least adventurous meal. (From the Pixe Fixe part of the menu - top right).Of course first we were handed a French Language menu (with some explanation in English) but you can ask for an English language one...I did for all three of us).I asked what was the Chopped steak (that’s what is says Chopped) and was told that it was ...steak chopped finely. confused I asked was it minced and told no chopped.- It was for all intense purposes minced steak and should have been called a burger!! It sat in a plate of pepper sauce that tasted a slight bit odd..but not enough to complain. The other people in my party had the Pork belly and found it was ok, but not something that was noteworthy. So Service was kinda ok, but a but clumsy if I could describe it so. I ordered a large Wendelinus Beer ... I received a small Meteor Pression. I called after the Bar staff that delivered the drink (I didn’t want to draw too much attention to it) but the Bar staff must have been deaf as he was only 3 meters away and kept going....My daughter had ordered a Gin and Tonic. Water for my third dining partner. So I asked a passing waitress to have it change for the large I ordered (I was not bothered by the change in beer as I sometimes like to try different beers and was not intending to drink much anyway). So a large Meteor was delivered after a kinda long delay. I saw the waitress check me in between to see if Bar staff had delivered. She eventually delivered it herself. So my “Burger” came to me in a very lonely state. It did appear as a minced steak that was not “pressed” into a burger - but it was burger shaped. And if it looks like a Duck, walks like a Duck and sounds like a Duck.... It sat in the middle of a plate of Pepper Sauce (that did not really taste of pepper ).I was lucky that I had ordered a side of chips. So my daughter and I ordered a second drink - another Large beer and G&T.The desserts came and were quite good. - best course of the meal.So then came the reason for my review title. I asked for the bill. I was also looking for some small notes from my pocket to leave a tip as the service, though not particularly efficient, was friendly. We received the bill while determining the correct amount to leave as a tip. When my Daughter looked at the bill (She is trained in Hotel management so I defer to all things related to here as she is highly qualified and worked 5* hotels etc.) She noticed that there was a 15% service charge already calculated and included on the bill!!! (It did appear to be optional, but it would have been awkward to ask to have it removed (the reason they include i suppose???) Now this was not added at the payment time - it was on the bill when it was presented to me. This some what distracted me and my daughter from looking at he rest of the bill. So I paid it but put any thoughts of leaving a tip on the table out of the equation. I prefer to leave money on the table as I can be reasonable sure the staff will receive it or at least share it out.It was only afterwards that when we looked at the bill in detail after leaving that we discovered we had been over charged not only on the service but they had some how added a third Beer (at £6-50) and had charged me for a double Gin for one of the 2 G&T’s that my daughter had - the difference from a single was about £4-00!) so we had been overcharged at least £10 on drinks. So would I go back (if they had not overcharged me?) No it was not that good a place, there are plenty of other places that look after you better and at maybe better prices. So remember there is a 15% service charge calculated and added to the bill. But you decide if you want to be in the position to ask for it to be removed.....

Le Gavroche

West End, City of London,Westminster
31/03/2020: We were an hour late and wearing rugby shirts but this didn’t bother staff in the slightest, they welcomed us kindly without a side wards glance. As for the food what can I say no words describe it but above all the cheese soufflé (sounds less exiting couldn’t be more wrong) completely blew my mind, thank you!
16/03/2020: We went with friends for my wife's birthday and were impressed. Affectionately known to our friend, who has eaten then for 40 years, as "Gavvers" this was our first visit.Reservations become available for the lunch menu 3 months in advance and are gone within minutes and one can see why because for £76 including vat and service, three courses, canapes, an amuse bouche, coffee and mignardises plus a half bottle of good wine each this is, in this day and age, a bargain. We had a game pasty with honeyed celeriac to start which was divine followed by the best pork I have ever eaten with a sage sauce and onion puree. Desert was an old 70's classic Rum Baba but like no other and unlike anything I have had before or likely to have again served with pineapple and vanilla cream. The cheese board which a couple of friends opted for was spectacular and of a quality you normally only see in France.Service was professional, friendly but not familiar and seeing Michel Junior doing the rounds of the tables was a nice touch. It shows confidence in the staff and respect for the clients. The basement restaurant itself has a warm cosy feel which would perhaps be best appreciated at night as on a sunny day it was perhaps a bit dark and gloomy. There is a bar upstairs for pre meal drinks and it would be easy to simply walk past outside as the frontage is very discreet. We rarely visit London but when we do we would love to go again. Thanks for a great time to all involved and our sympathies for the recent loss of Michel senior.

09/03/2020: Wow this place was perfect. The staff were so professional yet friendly, the food was delicious, beautiful. The two of us did the our own mix, starter, main, cheese and dessert, the dining experience was nearly 3 hours it was an incredible food journey and experience. The manager was very friendly, chatty and very insightful. Highly recommended, reservations in advance were necessary but definitely worth the pre-planning.
08/03/2020: Watched the 10th season and saw this place so I decided to come here just for fun

Gauthier Soho

West End, City of London,Westminster, 60-100£
29/06/2020: I used this restaurant so many times over the last a couple of years. First a couple of times were fine. However their quality has been getting worse in the last 1-2 years. Especially after they pushed to sell discounted meal vouchers. In addition, their services were very rude for non white customers. This is very clear indeed and not acceptable. Whenever I go there with my husband who is white, they give me quite different service compared to being with my Asian friends. especially seating!!! They always try to give better service to whites. I complained to the floor manager about teir rudeness based on racism once, but he was very rude indeed. Since then I did not visit them. If you are not white or do not have any good discounted voucher, I do not recommend this restaurant at all.
15/03/2020: had to book (online) at 6.30 or 9.00 on a Friday evening. Half empty. People coming in at 7 and 7.30. Smart casual dress code. Some other cusomets looked like they'd come in from a ramble! The place can't make up it's mind if it's traditional or trendy. Had the 8 course tasting menu. The food is good but not great. Two dishes had a seeafoodsoup/bisque sauce. Flavour of scallops in one was overwhelmed. Carrot (grated at table) as first course with chopped onion, tomato etc was a bit embrarassing. The best bit was the wine pairings ... they were really good. I sensed Gauthier is living on past glories/reviews.

Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse

Heathrow Villages, Hillingdon
18/04/2020: This was my first time visiting the lounge and it didn’t disappoint! I ate and drank like a king! The terrace area is one of a kind!
13/03/2020: Visited the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse in Gatwick and it was quite small in comparison to the one at Heathrow. There was a pool table and a videogame room but other than that, nothing else. Food was ok. The clubhouse is also limited in operating hours. I believe it closes at 2pm as no other Virgin Atlantic flights depart after that time.

06/07/2020: what a absolute treat to have gone here for afternoon tea. The surroundings are so opulent and stunning. You do feel like your eating somewhere special. The service was fantastic and nothing was to much trouble for them. A must if you love afternoon tea one of the most iconic things to do while in London.

Seven Park Place

St James's, City of London,Westminster, 60-100£
20/03/2020: We were given the opportunity to eat here as a present from my daughters and it was fabulous. The food was stunning, each course just sublime. We opted for the Sommelier to choose our wine and it was the right choice, ideal pairing, wonderful wines. I can't praise the food and the service highly enough. If you get the opprotunity to go here, do it, you won't be disappointed.
14/03/2020: I bought my boyfriend a Virgin Experience Day voucher for Christmas and we finally got round to redeeming our three-course lunch at Seven Park Place today. We like our Michelin-starred restaurants and this one certainly did not disappoint. Food was exceptional, I especially enjoyed the chocolate tart and I have never had lamb as tender and flavoursome as that in my main. I think what blew us away the most was all the complemetary parts of the meal! I have previously found that if I go to a restaurant with a voucher, the service can be a little sloppier and the food a bit less special than you'd expect because they know you won't be paying anything on the day. In comparison, the service here was brilliant and we were given free bread and soup for appertizers and a plate of mini cakes and truffles to finish which was spectacular. I also want to comment on the restaurant itself because it had a wonderful, relaxed and calm atmosphere. It was like we had left the rush of London and stepped into a bubble of tranquility. We appreciated that the waiters were laid back and had a laugh and a joke with us while they were serving.Would recommend this place to everyone and will DEFINITELY be coming back.

La Trompette

Turnham Green, Hounslow, 60-100£
13/04/2020: I dine quite regularly at La Trompette and it’s one of my favourites in West London. Consistently good food, innovative cooking, great service, lovely dining room - La Trompette ticks all the boxes! I had lunch there just before the Covid 19 shutdown and will be back as soon as life returns to normal.
08/03/2020: La Trompette is an absolute gem! The wine list is so extensive, the food is absolutely delicious, the service is next to none! The menu is very balanced with meat, fish and vegetarian options, there is also a tasting menu which looked divine as well! I had the cod and my boyfriend had the lamb, we were both very happy with our choices! The restaurant is keeping classic French traditions with a modern twist! Will absolutely visit again!

13/03/2020: Thank you Lenroy & all the staff for your fabulous front of house service. You made us feel so welcome & enjoyed chatting to you all. The food & presentation were superb. Cheese soufflé, parsnip soup, belly of pork with pig cheeks, creme caramel & mille feuille. 5* Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon & wish you much success.
13/03/2020: What a wonderful lunch we have just had at The Clink, HMP Highdown! My third visit and have never failed to be impressed by the level of service and quality of food. Lunch was expertly prepared, presented and tasted delicious.Special shout out to our waiter, Lenroy. He was fantastic! Professional, friendly, chatty and funny.
