Charlie's

Wheathampstead, St Albans
11/03/2020: I regularly meet my friend at Charlie's because the coffee and cake selection are exceptional! Gluten free and dairy free options are available. Today, I had the good fortune to choose Charlie's dairy free egg free chocolate cake and it was one of the best cakes I have ever tasted.

The Swan

Wheathampstead, St Albans
06/01/2020: My friend & I had a delicious roast dinner at The Swan last Sunday. The food came out piping hot, looking great & tasted superb. The deserts are great too. So lucky to have this great pub in our village!
07/12/2019: This is a very good pub, with well kept beers and several choices, plenty of space inside, good parking facilities, games are available in the bar (chess, draughts etc.), and the friendly owners ensure a good atmosphere.

Miller & Carter Wheathampstead

Wheathampstead, St Albans
03/04/2020: We were a large group who changed the table that we were given 3 times. The staff were really accommodating with our requests. The waitress was fantastic at dealing with the older members of our party and explained the menu perfectly to us all. The food was delicious and brought out quickly. Everyone had a really enjoyable time here, I would defiantly go back.
16/03/2020: Lovely restaurant in lovely surroundings. The food was just delicious I couldn't fault it. Our waitress Lucy was very nice and friendly.

The Golden Elephant

Wheathampstead, St Albans
01/03/2020: order was taken, had to wait a while as they seem to be more interested in getting takeawys out and deliveries.we ordered a platter for 4 adults and a few extras for 2children.all we got was i spare rib each 1 chicken on a stick and a prawn pancake.nothing for kids.after about a 45 minute wait part of our order didn,t turn up and there was extra rice which we didn,t order.my main was sweet and sour chicken which i didn,t order, but had it anyway.portions are now tiny.have been here several times since opening and it was really good, even recommended to friends and family.not anymore.we could have ordered from a different chinese and probably only have to pay about £35 as a takeaway and got a decent meal, instead of paying £144. should have gone to mcdonalds.no more recomendations from me.and wont be going there again.
15/02/2020: Visited last May for our anniversary so thought another visit was in order. Ordered the set menu for 2 people @ 17.50 each and then a Thai green curry as as extra. The sweet and sour pork was cold and also the crispy beef. The rice was also hard. When it came to paying the food came to £49! £14 for a Thai curry? Sure we was overcharged. Also they charged us a 10% service charge even though there was only 2 of us. So with drinks ended up paying £7 service charge. Felt like a wasted £77. Wont be going back anytime soon

Elephant & Castle

Wheathampstead, St Albans
29/11/2019: Excellent food, service and choice of drinks . A great, friendly establishment run by a wonderful chap called Joe. Oh, and aside from the best chips in Hertfordshire, they also don’t mind if you bring your dog and your horse!
06/11/2019: Visited here at the beginning of the year for the first time in a while and was highly impressed with the place. Fantastic Selection of drinks and lovely staff. The inside of the pub with the well is a real centre piece. Will return soon and will try out the food which looked really good.

Nihao

Wheathampstead, St Albans
01/03/2020: Have been here many times over the years. Great food always however our latest visit will be our last. Absolutely no welcome or polite conversation. Food delivered to table without a word said. No please or thank you and owner constantly sniffing as he delivered our food. It may have been acceptable 10 of 15 years ago for Chinese restaurant owners to be rude to their customers if the food was good but it’s not acceptable in 2020. You simply have to put the effort in with your customers and in future we will be visiting the much busier Golden Elephant across the road (even though arguably the food isn’t as good!) They have lost a high spending customer here for good as I’m not prepared to be treated like that as a recognised returning customer.
28/02/2020: Simple and straightforward. Extensive Chinese & Thai menus. Has a regular local clientele, but never seems overly busy. We usually find a table with no problem, and the service is quick and accurate. Food good; hot and freshly cooked. We've never been disappointed.

Le Moulin Restaurant

02/12/2018: Le Moulin is quite honestly the best food you are going to find locally.

The Cross Keys

Wheathampstead, St Albans
10/11/2019: We had an invite by a friend local to this pub/diner.
21/09/2019: Refused (I asked politely twice) to tell me whether or not my children’s food would be cooked in nut oil. I was told the kitchen staff ‘don’t know, don’t want to take the risk & don’t want to be liable.’ I wasn’t asking anyone to take responsibility, just to provide me with the relevant allergen information so I could make an informed decision for myself. Was I seriously expected to believe that a chef doesn’t know (& has no way of finding out) what type of oil is used in their kitchen?!

The Bull

Wheathampstead, St Albans
07/04/2019: Also listed on TripAdvisor as Miller & Carter in Wheathampstead, I’m guessing this listing is to do with the bar area and not the restaurant.
17/09/2018: Generally the food here is good, but the service can be really bad. Generally the problem is the waiting time, for not just the food but also for even a drink. I think there is an issue with the lack of table staff and if the place is busy it can spoil the entire evening.

Artisan Bakery

Wheathampstead, St Albans
22/02/2020: We stopped off here after visiting George Bernard Shaws corner. NationalTrust as there is no tea shop there.
29/07/2019: When Artisan at Marshalswick closed down I was devastated, because I'd come to rely on their delicious large seeded wholemeal. It was quite out of this world.

No1 Church Street

Wheathampstead, St Albans
