The staff are fun, friendly and welcoming. Lucy who manages the bar at lunchtimes on a very regular basis is particularly good natured and we always have a laugh or two. The food is homemade by Lucy’s mum in the busy kitchen and her dishes are delicious and inventive. She likes to experiment with new and different menu items. For instance, she makes a lovely chicken curry, but then simultaneously offers an imaginative vegetarian curry using halloumi cheese, cashew nuts, spinach and mushrooms. Absolutely delicious... my ‘go to’ dish even though I’m not a vegetarian! Top quality pub food. Good beer, a large garden area and plenty of parking. What’s not to like!

Great full English breakfast superbly cooked and plenty of it. Went off for a dog walk afterwards in the nearby woods and couldn't resist going back to the pub for tea/coffee and home made Victoria Sponge at lunch time! Excellent. We'll be back for an evening meal or a Sunday lunch. Thank you to you all at The Cross Keys!

So, I cycle often past this pleasant-looking pub and, for some reason, had always felt drawn to it. Perhaps, it's the location, being in the middle of the countryside. Perhaps it's because of the full looking car park (and that's true). Perhaps it's because you could always find something to do nearby, like the nature walks, cycling, or visiting the small nearby villages. Anyhow, myself and two others, on my suggestion, did visit, and were pleasantly won over by the warmth of this family-run business to all visitors local or otherwise, by the choice of foods and drinks (non-complicated and without pretention). There're also two outdoor eating areas with adjoining children's play area (all to the gentle background sound of neighing horses). The quality of the meals we had as well as the prices we'd paid for them also made us feel that we'd made the right decision in visiting here. In conclusion, if you want to dine in a non-fussy, welcoming and warm eatery, this is the place. After our own meals, my friends and I immediately said we'd definitely re-visit this place again (and I know that we will). We'd already made a mental note of it. Ps, we also went for all a countryside walk along some very pleasant paths on a beautiful summer's day. PPS, visitors can also book a B&B stay here too, I think, in two beautifully quaint rooms (at least from the exterior).

Had a lovely time at this popular, very low-key pub. I last visited 30 years ago and I cannot see much has changed... Except the brand new toilets. Had a good, filling, lunch. The bill was very reasonable as well e.g. £9.95 for a big main course. Three of us shared basket of whitebait with buttered bread. Mum had (deep fried) seafood platter. She enjoyed it but it was a bit heavy she said. I ate excellent homemade beef lasagne: plenty of mince, fresh herbs and cheesy topping. Could not eat all the garlic bread, probably because we had overordered (!) huge chips side order. Very friendly staff, quick service. Small negative: I prefer condiments served in bowls etc. Let's dispense with plastic throwaway sachets.

Genuine country pub, but sadly the beer choice is poor (four cask beers on hand pump, but all very similar) and the food, though not unpleasant, is nothing special. You go for the ambience, the friendliness of the welcome, and because you know the locals.
