Happy Fryer in St Albans

The Wheathampstead Fryer is a great village chippy servings a great selection of freshly cooked take away meals. Although they take orders by phone a website with the menu and the ability to order online would be useful.

I am a food inspector. I really liked the food, I had a chicken kebab and cheesy chips with a salad and a rubicon mango. There was a seating area which was very clean. The man at the counter was really respectful and we had a very good chat. You can tell that he has been in the industry for a long time as he is very professional and it is a pleasure to have him in the Wheathampstead area. The food was cooked to perfection and seasoned very well. The chicken kebab had a really indulgent signature sauce and the salad portion was very generous. The chili sauce had a good amount of spice and wasn't watery like other places. The cheesy chips were fresh and the cheese was of good quality and you could tell that the cheese was not cheap. The chips were well fried and the portion was very big. The wait time was very good. Overall, I believe the quality of the food was stupendous and I think that if you are in the area you should get some food.

A traditional chippy but with kebabs. Food is always good and portions very generous and very reasonably priced, we have never been disappointed. Gets very busy in the evenings - best to phone order through in advance.

Amazing! Freshest fish around and always consistent. Would even say that its a contender against alot of coastal fish and chip shops.

Lovely chippy, I have never ate such crispy, juicy and tender fish before. Toilets were great for a little poo. They also had the Alladin's lamp aswell for drinking. 10/10

I’ve been going here for fish and chips for years. Huge portions, excellently cooked, never had any issues with them. Fast and efficient, and polite!!!

First guy I spoke to, wasn't very friendly AT ALL - ordered two cheese burgers and chips. Burgers too small for the buns, just real lack of effort, which came through in the end result. Chips however, were crispy, hot and tasted very nice. SECOND person that served me, much more friendly, smiled and made me feel welcome.

I can’t lie to you.. this is the best chip shop I’ve been to ever!! I’ve been going here all the time since it opened yearssss ago... no other chip shop has chips as good (esp cheesy) 😍

Large sizes, Chips are amazing and the chilli is home Made, great big bits of chicken - best in the area by far !

This is my local chippy and it’s always excellent. The staff are friendly and they always get the order accurate no matter how busy it is in there. Food is always fresh, well prepared and importantly well cooked and tasty. Mehmet is an especially nice guy.

We have only recently moved into Wheathampstead and have found this chippie. We have moved around quite a bit over the last 10 years and have tried many chip shops but I can say hand on heart these are the best and tastiest chips I have had in a long long time if not ever. Well worth a visit.

Excellent local chippy. Love the chicken kebabs. Always a once a week treat. Clean and fresh salad with kebabs. Chips are as they should be. Can be busy so best to phone your order through, also cash only!

Since we discovered this chippy we won't go anywhere else, despite having half a dozen or so that are much nearer us. I'm a complete chip snob, and usually turn my nose up at limp, soggy, greasy chip shop chips, but these guys turn out piping hot, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside chips to die for. Fish is great; again- not greasy at all, and the kebabs come with enough salad to open a market stall with! Always seems busy, but we've never had to wait long for food, & happy to hang around a few minutes to get something freshly cooked.

Every time we get food from here The food is excellent The service is excellent The staff are friendly and well presented. Favourites are the chicken kebabs, veg kebabs and fish , chips and mushy peas. We are so lucky to have these guys in the village

The guys working in here are all very friendly and your order always gets taken quickly. The food in here is amazing and is always well cooked. The fish and chips are the best! Although their quarter and half pounder burgers, their kebabs and other food is also nice. I wouldn’t travel to any other chip shop in the local area as I think this is the best.

I lived in Yorkshire for 30 years and the Happy Fryer really stands up against the best! Beautiful fresh white fish.

Besttake away fish and chips i have had for a long time. Excellent value for money. Well worth a visit and would recommend to friends and family.

Simply superb!!We ordered 8 X cod and 5 X large chips. The batter was nice and crispy and the fish was so succulent. We ordered large cod's and they were huge and even though we have big appetites, we had loads of chips left over.The fish was cooked to order, I'm more than happy to wait for quality like this and the price was very reasonable. This has restored our faith in chippies after 2 dreadful experiences at Godfrey's in Harpenden.Thoroughly recommended.

Always consistently good quality take aways. Can highly recommend chicken shish kebabs and the fish, with chips cooked to perfection!

Its really nice the chips came warm and fresh also because its near a park and the river lea so you can have a picnic

Never had a bad meal from here,I use it once a week on average. It's very clean,the staff are really polite and helpful and the prices are very reasonable! Everything I've had from here has been exceptional. Happy customer

He estado viniendo aquí durante años. Es un ahora llamado Wheathampstead freidora. Por desgracia, no hay menú. En el coche aburrido esperando a mi marido para recoger nuestra cena. Viajamos a 20 minutos de aquí. Mi familia local en vivo. Sin duda cierto que es mejor que el pescado y las patatas fritas que tienes en el mar, porciones generosas!

Lovely fresh and hot ! ....... never have to wait long as the service is first rate as well ......... we love the chicken and chips, sausage and savoly ..... not very fishie I know but very tasty !!!!!

Good basic fryer. Lots of chips in a small serve. I was not overly impressed with the chicken burger but it did fill the spot.

El mejor pescado y patatas fritas por millas - y también es mejor que muchos de los pequeños costeras también!. No hemos tenido una mala comida y vale la pena la espera ya que en su mayoría recién preparado y a la orden. Aparcamiento en la calle High Street es siempre un dolor, pero siempre hay un espacio a la vuelta de la esquina de la panadería en las noches. Nunca he tenido que aparcar más de un breve paseo. El personal es acogedor y proporcionan una excelente pescado y patatas fritas para eventos ya que probé recientemente para una noche de concurso localmente. La comida llegó fresco y aún caliente y había unos cuantos de nosotros. Sin duda no malgastar mi tiempo intentando en ningún otro sitio.

We ere lucky to have it on our doorstep untill we move but we know our friends travel the 15mins to get to it.Always freshly prepared and the kids cod and chips portion is HUGE! Great value great taste and if my metabolism was that if a natural athlete I would eat from there everyday You won't be disappointed
