The three of us had a great lunch on Friday 6th December. Great comfort food in a pleasant pub setting. The staff were helpful and professional. They also looked after our dog. Recommend the place if walking in Nomansland or Heartwood Forest. We’ll be back.

Every month, with a group of friends, we have supper here. There's an excellent menu, always cooked perfectly, served without undue delay, by a lovely team. Mine host Ross usually greets all guests as old friends, making our visits most enjoyable. The bar has an excellent range of beers and wines with non alcoholic drinks for those driving. I used their excellent facilities to entertain 40 friends at my recent birthday party.

Just had a lovely lunch at this hidden little village pub. Jen the bar girl couldn’t have been more helpful and very friendly. We had two pints of Moretti lager and a delicious warm fresh baguette filled with thick slices of hand cut ham, cheese and mixed salad all for £30 which we thought was very reasonable. Good service, lovely outdoor garden seating and very relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be going back when in the area.

after years in the wilderness ( Australia😀) I found a good old English pub, old style building next to a small church. Lots if authentic wood beams and ( not too) low ceilings. Smaller range of traditional beers than I’d expected but enough to slake a thirst. Menus looked ok service ok. Recommend and would go again.

The best Sunday roast we've ever had! This is the first pub I've seen in the UK that offers both full and half-sized Sunday roasts, which is fantastic. You absolutely must try the sticky toffee pudding; it was incredibly fresh and the best we've had so far. We definitely plan to return for dinner and, of course, for the roast.

The food is delicious, piping hot with generous portions. The staff are helpful and friendly. Big shout out to Callun, Jack, Hannah and Ross the licensee. Nothing is too much trouble for them whether you have a dog with you or the children! An excellent factor is whether you go for lunch at 12.30pm or 4pm it is still the same excellent standard. May24- lovely outdoor space. Pretty. Went through the front to the beer garden: I greeted the bar staff on entering, the young lady merely stared at me! (perhaps the union flag was portent) I walked through... Good job the food was good as the wait staff didn't bring cutlery nor napkins even when he asked "is there anything else" and then ignored the request! Weird very weird. Will give it one more go just because it's handy (2 other pubs nearby though) for Heartwood Forest.

Visited the area for a dog walk and chose this place as the first choice had banned dogs (weird for a country pub to do that ?). Anyway we all opted for the Sunday beef roast. I know I’ve had better beef roasts elsewhere but we thought they were actually very good value for the portions. And I was pleasantly surprised by the super staff, very accommodating, attentive and generally a nice bunch. So all in all a good afternoon out. And the doggos loved the little treat presented to them near the end, so extra marks for that.

My daughter (32) brought me here for Mother's Day lunch after I had looked it up and seen that there would be gluten free and vegetarian options and she booked in advance. We were seated by the front door which was frequently left open which caused quite a cold draft. On visiting the ladies (nice and clean) I became aware that the more pleasant area to eat was in the main part of the pub. I was disappointed to learn that the nut roast wasn't gluten free but there wasn't an alternative, so I just ate a little of it and sorry to say it was very dull. They tried with the gluten free gravy but it was very watery and they gave me a gluten free Yorkshire pud which looked shop bought but was OK. The parsnips were burnt to the extent that they were too hard to cut, but the rest of the veggies were quite nice. My daughter's roast looked lovely and I wished I could have eaten it, but sadly my digestion can't cope - she had the lamb and her Yorkshire pudding was huge and home made. Her only complaint was that she hadn't realised that it would be mint gravy as she doesn't like mint! I was hoping for pudding but was told there weren't any gluten free options! The young man later said that he'd been mistaken and that there was one option after all, but no dairy free cream or sorbet or anything to go with it, so I declined. I then asked for a cup of tea with a dairy alternative (anything would have done - soya, oat, almond etc) , but was told they didn't have any. If you don't have any dietary requirements, I'm sure the food is lovely and it's in a quaint setting beside the church. I wish I didn't have to appear like I'm being awkward as it does make eating out tricky and the place is obviously popular as it was very busy.

Had a disappointing mother's day Sunday lunch here. In terms of service, the waiter asked for our drinks order before we'd even sat down at the table which was a bit too keen for my liking, but was otherwise attentive and helpful. The staff didn't seem to communicate well with each other, as another member of staff kept appearing almost immediately after we'd already been served to ask if we wanted anything. I was expecting more for going out on mothers day food wise, and I wasn't a fan of the roast at all unfortunately. All the veg including potatoes tasted bland and unseasoned and I think it's the first time in my life I've never finished a Yorkshire pudding (the best bit of a roast in my opinion!), which had a burnt and smokey taste to it. The lamb looked like thin sandwich meat which was disappointing. I also didn't like the mint gravy. I didn't feel it was worth £16.95. There were no gluten free or appealing dairy free dessert options which generally are easy to come by these days. There were also no dairy milk alternatives for hot drinks post meal, so our meal ended earlier than planned as we ventured elsewhere to seek cups of tea and pudding. There was no dessert menu online that I could see before arriving to judge better ahead of making the booking. Attaching it for future customers! Would not return.

Finally got through at about 10.00 the following day to be told it's normal for them to check the customer intends to keep the booking. Confirmed of course. Always worry when never been to the pub that parking is available. On our first approach no luck. Went down the lane to the end. Turned around as there might have been a space but could have blocked a gate. On our return approach someone was leaving. All ok. Arrived a little early. Lovely oldie pub. Busy. Table a bit small didn't notice it rotated until food arrived. Unable to cut the beef. Moved to another table immediately. The beef texture was good medium cooked. and plenty. Lovely people.Had to move to another table as our was reserved for a bigger party. My wife wanted some fruit. They only had strawberries used for use with the sundaes but they must have run out so they went to buy some. It shows how willing they are to keep their customers happy. A great place. A useful pub at the intersection of several public footpaths, this pub has good food and atmosphere. Popular with walkers; plenty of parking and a good selection of ales on tap.

Lovely place to get freshly made sandwiches. The bacon and sausage sandwiches are a favourite with the family. Along with the selection of smoothies and milkshakes.

A really excellent midweek lunch menu and wine-by-the-glass selection. My only problem was deciding which starter and main course to choose - I could have happily chosen them all! Very friendly and efficient service and great food too.
