Cafe Alfresco in St Albans

Needed sustenance before a beer festival. Did the job perfectly and at a very reasonable price. Was quiet when we there but looked like it was getting busy for lunchtime.

Love the breakfast and all the food. When I think about breakfast or lunch, the perfect place is Cafe Alfresco

What a find.Located on the route into St Albans from the rail station. Massive breakfasts for a reasonable price. Very nice food. The bacon and the 3 black puddings were really good. Lots of locals in there. if visiting St Albans have your breakfast here or even lunch.

I adore places where the food served feels homemade and cozy. This was definitely one such place. They have a lot of options to choose from!! We were a group of 4 friends, all with different dietery needs & we all had very good options to choose from. We ordered, soup, salad, cottage pie, pasta..and were served huge hot fresh portions. The staff were very helpful. Everything tasted good. No fluff - a good place to eat.

Visiting St Alban's for a whole sky event and wanted to *line my stomach*. Came here as a good old breakfast was in order. Staff lovely. Food, hmmm. Ordered bacon, egg, black pudding, chips and a coffee. Bacon: 1.5 slices. Eggs: one fine, one really snotty Black pudding: three slices so thin (approx 2mm max each). Chips: too many Coffee: fine Cost: £14.79!!! Are you mad? I understand this is a tourist town, but I live in London, and have never been charged such a price for so little. Even the main breakfast on menu, includes all of the above, but added beans and toast. I didn't have time to query as was on way to meet someone, but I won't be coming back. Next time I'll head somewhere a little less extortionate.

What you want from a café, good food and a warm welcome and atmosphere. Which is why it's been my regular haunt for some years!

Delicious! The portion was rather generous and I was surprised it came with an option of hot chocolate along with the meal. The service was commendable as well. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and would frequent this cafe in the future.

Food and service are excellent. Sometimes a tad cold in Winter with a table by the door but in Summer it's excellent with tables outside.

A popular cafe which hasn't lost its local neighbourhood feel. Love the owners and food, large portions too and great fresh fresh orange juice from their machine which I find fascinating.

So glad we tried Alfresco for Breakfast after reading many positive reviews online. Both of us had The Full English (I know its an easy thing to make but so many get it wrong!) and were not disappointed, very tasty. All the staff were attentive & friendly, the coffee was good too & price wise, it was well worth it, especially in St Albans! We've been back since & will continue to do so. Keep up the good work guys!

After 2 weeks of searching, finally a great Cafe! My first visit but not my last. Nice bacon, nice sausages, nice black pudding, fresh OJ, great coffee & it opens at 0730 eg breakfast time, not like the other lazy cafes who open at 10 or 11, sprinkle a bit off parsley on egg on toast & charge the earth.

Great hot coffee. Huge breakfast very tasty. Ok it's simple food but Chef knows his job and cares about what leaves his kitchen. I'll be back.

Exactly what I was looking for; a proper cafe, with proper breakfasts, run by proper people. I had the all-day breakfast. It totally hit the spot and will probably last me all day.

When visiting St Albans we found this cafe when looking for a hearty breakfast. Returned several times during our stay for both breakfast and, on one occasion, lunch. Food was perfect and service quick and very friendly. Will definately be returning on next visit.

Cafe Alfresco is a small cafe located in St Albans. It’s a nice place that’s feels warm and relaxing. It has a nice indoor seating area and a covered outdoor area that’s great to watch the world go by. Cafe Alfresco offers everything from breakfast brunch lunch and dinner. The menu is a mix of traditional English cuisine and international cuisine. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. The staff and service was also good. A nice place to visit for a coffee or food.

The food never stays around for too long to take a photo to review. It's simply excellent! Couldn't fault this place. We come around on average 2-3 times a week!

Great place for food and drinks. Whether you want breakfast, lunch or dinner eaten during lunchtime it is the place to come! We probably come here on average twice a week and would not change it for the world ! Enjoyed the dishes, drinks and staff were very nice and friendly !

Ordered a BLT with Chicken and Avocado to take away They forgot the bacon and there were 2 tiny pieces of chicken. They forgot the B in a BLT 🤦🏼‍♂️😆 They put salad and coleslaw in the box. No cutlery to eat it with. So thats a waste. So I basically paid £7 for a “salad” sandwich

Our favourite lunch spot in St Albans! We have been coming to Cafe Alfresco for around 5 years and it is absolutely fantastic - every meal we have had has been great and the owners/staff are so lovely. We went for lunch today and were delighted to find out that they have a beautiful garden out the back which is an absolute sun trap and it was so peaceful. We went with our two young children and the waitress was so kind to them and gave them a cuddly toy each which they haven’t let go of all afternoon and choice of sweets when we left. Simply the best service in St Albans! Look forward to many more lunches there in the future.

So we went in for brunch the place looks tired, not cheap for breakfast so expecting a reasonable meal. Don’t understand how these places survive the owners have clearly lost interest quality the ingredients were shocking cheap and nasty not good quality,not even reasonable quality. Will be not going back again in the future would not recommend.

This is a real café. An unpretentious proper caff! Well spaced tables, an extensive menu at very reasonable prices and fantastic service. On the way from the station towards the town centre so well positioned. This is a great place for breakfast or just a snack or main meal at lunchtime or in the evening. The food ranges from traditional English to some middle eastern/Turkish options.

Stopped here on the way walking from the station to city centre as they had outside seating on a lovely morning, and I'm so glad I did. I had the "Sunrise" breakfast and everything was cooked very well and the service was quick and efficient. I will certainly return.

We ate lunch at Cafe Alfresco while we were visiting St Alban's in early July. It was a bit of a spur of the moment decision as we were hungry and the cafe caught our eye. The food was wonderful! Very large portions and great service. The lasagne was beautiful. Very well priced as well, on par with an average cafe lunch here in Australia.

Food great, service great, friendly..but intolerably hot in the summer. It "has" air con, but it has never been used in the years I have been going. Relatively useless fans are plugged in when the fancy takes, but is by no means policy. Could be so much more comfortable during what are becoming regular heatwaves.

I opted to visit here because a nearby cafe changed its opening hours without warning. Upon arrival at 9:30 on Sunday 2 June, the cafe was busy and popular. Our cooked breakfasts, toast and coffees were brought quickly and our bill at £12.10 was excellent value

We happened upon this cafe walking from the station and becoming more hungry with every step as our train was late. Breakfast/ brunch was what we were looking for and we found everything we could have wished for in this delightful place. Great food great atmosphere great coffee and service with a smile. Very good value. Wish we could visit often but we were just down for the weekend. A most memorable meal. Thank you.

Cafe Alfresco is a cosy and smart cafe on Victoria street between the station and the city centre. It serves food throughout the day and is usually busy. We visited for breakfast on a Sunday morning and were very pleased with the experience. There is a wide breakfast menu to choose from. We had the Old English breakfast which comes with very good bubble and squeak, and the vegetarian breakfast which was also very good with good quality ingredients well cooked. Breakfasts come with toast and tea or coffee and range from £6 to £8. Staff are friendly and efficient

I discovered Alfresco a few months ago while doing jury service at the nearby court. Great lunches, excellent coffee, friendly service.Last night I met up with a friend and we were looking for somewhere inexpensive to grab a bite. To my surprise, when we passed Alfresco it was still open so we went in.Now open until 10pm, the word is plainly not out yet; the cafe was sadly almost empty. We were greeted warmly. The menu has a distinctly Middle-Eastern bent, but also includes a large number of Western dishes; remember, this is primarily a breakfast cafe.I chose a simple grilled chicken dish with rice and a salad. My friend went for a vegetarian dish - forgive me, I can't recall what it was called, but it contained humous, veg, salad, bread, some other bits and pieces.My friend's dish was enormous. We could have shared it and been full. Not that she was sharing; she was enjoying every mouthful. My chicken meal was beautifully presented, very tasty and the accompanying salad was fresh and lightly dressed.Two large, tasty, filling mains, a bottle of sparkling water, a coffee and a peppermint tea came to £21. Highly recommended

Whenever I get the opportunity to go out for a bite to eat I always end up going to Al Fresco. The staff are friendly and the food is fantastic. Never had a bad breakfast/lunch here. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

The Café Alfresco is quite near the St Albans City Rail Station. It has seating indoors and out and offers a full range of dishes for breakfast, lunch and afternoon meals. You can probably order anything you fancy and they will come up with the goods, whether it be porridge for breakfast, a full monty breakfast, eggs Benedict or Florentine, omelettes, steak, liver, bacon, chips, salads, pastas etc. The idea of the Builders breakfast appealed to me, so that is what I ordered: two rashers, two fried eggs, mushrooms, baked beans and two rounds of toast. That set me up for the rest of the day. Don't worry - I will be back for more of the same from this amiable local café.

Family visit here for breakfast and loved it. Mega breakfast was huge and everyone enjoyed their meals and coffees very nice. Would recommend the BLT sandwich with an extra side of chips if your hungry. Lovely food, no grease, great cafe

I have eaten here a few times and always had a good meal. Their portions are a really good size and it is reasonably priced. The two ladies that take the orders are quick and efficient and have a good rapport with regulars. Also, the food always comes out quite quickly after ordering. Would definitely recommend.

Been here numerous times for breakfast/lunch & dinner with my wife, very nice with a very wide variety for such a little place at such reasonable prices... Highly recommended lovely kind staff too.

The cafe opens at 7:30, and there is plenty of room inside. The breakfast is hot and tasty (although the plate could have been preheated). The toast was made from nice bread and the tea was served with the tea bag, so that I got a tea of the correct strength.

Good breakfast menu. We had brunch here in a Saturday when most St Albans brunch venues have queues. This is bigger than a lot of the cafes -so it's easier to get a table especially for a larger group -and does great breakfasts with coffee included which makes it excellent value.The Alfresco breakfast with halloumi and olives is deliciousIf you hate olives you can swap them for hash browns .Service is fine. Table by door is a bit chilly

Always a good cooked breakfast. Best value is the builder's breakfast available on weekdays only, but even missing this it's a welcome treat.Go for the freshly squeezed orange juice, the tea is too hot and the coffee only passable, but the OJ machine rocks!

This place is much more than a cafe. The food is excellent, the service very good & best of all, great value for money. The menu is vary varied & has much choice. The omelettes are lovely.

We went for lunch, me a slightly healthy English with added beans and Hilary a chicken panini. Both came quickly and freshly prepared. Panini with salad which is a nice touch. Mine cooked very well and the eggs perfect. With drinks good value at about £12. Never disappointed.

Alfresco breakfast is simply superb, the coffee is delicious and the service is excellent. It is reasonably priced and theres a wide range of diversity in the menu, including milkshakes and smoothies. Well worth a visit.

This café cooks to order e.g. you tell them how you want your eggs done like you would with steak. It is also well presented and the staff are attentive. Good value for money also.

My husband and I along with another couple visited cafe alfresco for breakfast before heading off for a weekend away. The menu is great with plenty of choice. The price is good and the staff were brilliant, friendly and professional. We will definitely be return here again soon.

Two eggs, two rashers, sausage, mushrooms, beans, two slices of toast! The Builders Breakfast for less than £4 at Cafe Alfresco is the best value for miles. Their coffee is excellent too.The place is clean, service is quick and friendly, decor is up market cafe and definitely not greasy builders caff, clientele real mixture from mums with buggies to plasterers and estate agents. I've been going here for years and still love it. If you fancy something a bit different, try a halloumi and ham omelette ---- bombe!

I came here, not for the first time, with my daughter after a trip to the school uniform shop opposite. Usually the food has been tasty and plentiful. Today in my 'club sandwich with halloumi, avocado, lettuce, tomato, cucumber & mayo' I had the thinnest pieces of halloumi i have ever seen. The pieces of avocado were even smaller. My daughter joked that they must have used a meat slicer to get the slices so thin!Usually a club sandwich is loaded with layers of each individual ingredient. This had one layer of each item. They could have used one 250g block of halloumi and one avocado to make forty of these club sandwiches. Her panini with chicken and avocado also had homeopathic quantities of avocado. Really they should have told us if they had run out of ingredients!I can't believe this restaurant can still be run by Cypriots. Surely no self respecting Greek or Turkish Cypriot would serve such underfilled sandwiches and charge money for them. I didn't complain because I don't like to make a scene. We won't be revisiting this cafe though, sadly.

Came here for early morning caffeine mission. The coffee is good and very reasonably priced! The staff are friendly, the room is nice and the breakfasts look ok.
