Unfortunately I didn't have the best experience here. We went for a mothers day meal and it definitely did not meet expectations. We asked for 2 elderflower and sodas and we were given just sodas. When we asked, the waitress said they ran out of elderflower which was concerning as they just left it out and would've charged us for it anyways. We ordered the beef roast and im sorry to say it was one of the worst roasts I've ever had and the portion size was really small for £20 which is quite a lot for a roast, especially a badly made one. We also ordered a children's meal which should've come with a drink and icecream however we never received them. The children's pasta was not good either, it was like pasta mixed with tomato puree. Also we were planning to order desserts however when we saw the dessert choices and that they wanted to charge £9 for them we didn't end up getting any. All the food was very expensive for what it was. It's a shame as we was looking forward to visiting here for quite some time and unfortunately we will not be returning. On a good note there is a nice play area for the kids and ducks too.

I don’t typically leave reviews, but after spending over £180 for a disappointing meal, I feel compelled to share my experience to warn others. A group of 9 of us booked a table for dinner on Saturday evening, looking forward to catching up over a nice meal. While the service was excellent—attentive staff who frequently checked in to ensure everything was fine—unfortunately, the food did not meet expectations. I ordered the ultimate burger, and I was extremely disappointed. It lacked seasoning, was bland, and worst of all, it was made with frozen meat. The burger had no sauce, and the frozen bacon and meat made it difficult to enjoy. Others at the table ordered the curry and masala fish and chips, and those dishes were equally underwhelming, also made with frozen ingredients and lacking in flavor. We have elderly so we decided to stay and not focus on the food. Though we have a lot of leftovers because we didn't enjoy the food (even the elderly asked why the Indian can't get their curry right). Peacock Lodge, if you’re charging £18-19 for a burger, it should reflect the quality of the ingredients and preparation. There's another restaurant nearby offering a similar price range, and they do a much better job. Unfortunately, the lackluster food means we won’t be returning.

Shame the service so poor as the food was really good. We waited a long time for the main and even longer for pudding. Had to rush off to pick up school children from a booking at 12.30 and it was not busy!!

Came here for lunch. Have to say the food we had was very good with pretty generous portions and very tasty. Service was friendly and good as well, would certainly come back. The only downside is that access can be a little tricky at the moment, with the local authority digging up several of the roads locally, at least one direction was blocked, ut was well worth the effort.

This is such a lovely pub. Very old and beautifully decorated for Christmas. The food was very good, very huge portions. The fish and chips and burger were really tasty.

We were greeted at the bar as soon as we arrived. The staff were polite and friendly. Our food was tasty and the onion rings were amazing (made from scratch). The chef checked if we were happy with the food and offered for us to have more drinks served to the table. We would come back again.

If you are expecting a modern and polished dining establishment , go elsewhere. This place is a true, timeless local pub. Sussex Best on tap and a merry environment that guarantees a good time for all. Would heartily recommend to those seeking a warm, rustic pub with cheerful service.

We’ve been wanting to try The Old House for a while and finally we went for breakfast this morning. The lovely staff looking after us were attentive and popped back to ensure everything was ok. Great selection of breakfast choices, all food was great quality and cooked to perfection I had the plant breakfast and the veg sausages were the nicest I’ve had in a while. We looked at the lunch menu, again a great menu, we will definitely be visiting again

I know Burgh house well and always enjoy the museum and the art exhibitions. I had high hopes of the Buttery which has been nicely refurbished but I’m afraid both the food and the service were a big disappointment when I brought three friends for lunch last week. It wasn’t very busy and we were seated immediately inside and but no one brought menus, so we had to go and find them. Two of us asked for soup and a savoury scone and cheese but were told “we only have fruit scones “ as though they would go with soup! Bread was not such an interesting substitute. We waited a good half hour for the food to arrive. The soup itself billed as sweet potatoand coconut was frankly tasteless (we both agreed). I had asked for Cornish yarg but what arrived was Brie. When I pointed this out the waitress replied “aren’t they the same??” And “no one else has complained”. She added that they had run out of brie. Another friend ordered a mature cheddar sandwich but said the cheese tasted more like a processed cheese slice. Again no apology or offer to meet the chef. I fear there is a lack of communication within the kitchen. A dispiriting experience
