Burgh House in Tandridge

I know Burgh house well and always enjoy the museum and the art exhibitions. I had high hopes of the Buttery which has been nicely refurbished but I’m afraid both the food and the service were a big disappointment when I brought three friends for lunch last week. It wasn’t very busy and we were seated immediately inside and but no one brought menus, so we had to go and find them. Two of us asked for soup and a savoury scone and cheese but were told “we only have fruit scones “ as though they would go with soup! Bread was not such an interesting substitute. We waited a good half hour for the food to arrive.The soup itself billed as sweet potatoand coconut was frankly tasteless (we both agreed). I had asked for Cornish yarg but what arrived was Brie. When I pointed this out the waitress replied “aren’t they the same??” And “no one else has complained”. She added that they had run out of brie. Another friend ordered a mature cheddar sandwich but said the cheese tasted more like a processed cheese slice. Again no apology or offer to meet the chef. I fear there is a lack of communication within the kitchen. A dispiriting experience

Como no habíamos reservado el desayuno en nuestro hotel este fue el primero de nuestros tres desayunos, aunque dado el brunch tiempo podría ser una mejor descripción. Teníamos planeado ir a Kenwood House y preparando el desayuno allí, pero la falta de indicaciones y nuestro simplemente paseando por la esperanza en vano nos podría tropezar en significaba que terminó después de una caminata al otro lado de la casa en Burgh Heath. Decidimos ir a comer algo y beber para restaurar los niveles de energía y nos quedamos agradablemente sorprendidos de encontrar el crujiente. El desayuno incluye salchichas y chorizo hash Cumberland, zumo de naranja y café de cada dos. Aunque el sol brillaba, hacía un poco de frío, así que comimos en el café dentro. El servicio era agradable, razonablemente rápido, la comida es muy buena y en 33 £ razonable para lo que es y la ubicación.

Este es un lugar encantador para un visitante de Hampstead, un deleite en sí mismo. El jardín es muy atractivo y el Museo interesante. Es una pena que el servicio en la cafetería es muy pobre.
