Howard Street

Shaftesbury, Belfast
15/04/2019: Solid menu and good service though a little slow at times give we were there pre-theatre. Happy to return at a later date.
13/04/2019: We went on a suggestion from a friend, who had not actually been here. Sadly the food was very average. The salt and chilli beef was tasteless and sat on a bed of something very unappetising that I poked at and decided against eating. The fish was greasy. The creme brûlée was ok.

The Great Room Restaurant

Duncairn, Belfast
16/04/2019: We ate in the Great Room for my Mum's birthday (my parents were staying in the hotel). We were a party of 4 adults and 2 children. We had the set menu and the choices were great for everyone. I ate off the vegetarian set menu. The food was first class as were the surroundings and service. It was also great value and child friendly. This was our first visit to the Great Room and we will definitely be back!
16/04/2019: Came here after a spa visit and was pretty disappointed. The sandwiches were kinda dry, the desserts weren't great and the selection was odd. The scones were about the only good thing! The tea selection was decent though but I expected a lot better quality food for the price. They came round and gave us a free macaron which was good - clearly fresh unlike the rest.

Avoca

Shaftesbury, Belfast
08/04/2019: Called in to the upstairs cafe for lunch and was pretty disappointed with visit. Had been once before and had delicious scones and a cup of tea so decided to try some lunch. We shared a cajun chicken wrap and some Brie spinach and pine nut quiche. Sadly both were rather bland. The chicken had no Cajun flavour. The creme fraise dressing and salad in the wrap was nice but the tasteless chicken spoilt the wrap. The quiche had no taste of Brie and was under seasoned. Unfortunately the trip was further spoilt by the filthy cushions on the sofa that we sat at. They were really grim and put me off the (bland) food. Such a shame as the scones are to be recommended! The lady that served us at the counter was very friendly. Will return to try the fantastic looking cakes but will sit at a higher table.
06/04/2019: I visit here regularly for their scones and desserts to take home. It is pricey but nowhere else makes them as good.

Neills Hill Brasserie

Ballyhackamore, Belfast
31/03/2019: Four of us had dinner here and opinion was divided between those who chose the burger (loved it) and those who chose the chicken with chorizo and pepper sauce (meh - the chicken breast was huge and breadcrumbed which was unexpected and there was about a cube and a half of chorizo in the whole sauce).
27/03/2019: I always enjoy the food in Neils Hill, it has attentive and friendly staff. I mostly eat brunch here and really the only criticism is that there are a lot of hard surfaces in the restaurant and as a result it tends to be very noisy.

Hadskis

Duncairn, Belfast
15/04/2019: Wow this was the second time we have been here it's been a long time coming but it didn't disappoint....this place the service and the steaks are second to none anywhere.
14/04/2019: Cannot recommend this place enough. Every course was beautifully cooked, presented and timely. We got a starter between us - the meatballs - and it came it two separate plates for convenience and the sauce was rich and tasty. The 700g Chateaubriand for 2 was perfectly cooked, seasoned and all the sides were delicious too. The Creme brulee was creamy and light and the cocktails were amazing.

The Crown Liquor Saloon

Shaftesbury, Belfast, <20£
18/04/2019: Uno de los imprescindibles. Sólo fuimos a beber y no a comer. El ambiente muy agradable. No hay problema para pagar con tarjeta y evitar cambiar libras. Reperiremos
18/04/2019: The bar downstairs is gorgeous but the the food in the restaurant upstairs, where had had lunch, was pretty awful. The Irish stew was bland and tasted more like a ready-meal than a cooked-from-scratch dish. The open-faced smoked salmon sandwich with preserved lemon turned out not to be. It was more like a regular smoked salmon sandwich with the top piece of bread taken off and put on the plate with a bit of tomato and lettuce on top. And the preserved lemon was just a regular wedge of lemon.

The Garrick Bar

Shaftesbury, Belfast, 20-30£
14/04/2019: I was in this bar in late March with 10 friends. We are a group of school friends (all men) who were on our 2nd trip to Belfast, as we enjoyed the first one so much last year. We wanted to watch an afternoon premier league football match and were told this was a good place for that. Anyway, it was standing room only and my friend put his bottle of cider on a table and a person at the table spilled it. The person that spilled it was very nice about it and bought a replacement very amicably. Then one of the waiters came over and very rudely told my friend that it was his responsibility to look after his own drink and that he should hold it in his hands instead of placing it on a table. My friend said "But what if I have to go to the toilet?" and the waiter told him in that case he should hand it to one of the other guys to hold". I've never heard anything like that in any pub I've ever been to. The guy was really really obnoxious and upset quite a few of my friends. Half of my friends don't drink alcohol and the ones that do were only on their 2nd or 3rd drink of the day. The guy was simply a jerk. Also, he'd shoved me a couple of times when trying to get past with a tray of drink and not once thought to say 'Excuse me". My friends all said they'd like to leave because of this waiter's awful behaviour, which we did. But before I left was so annoyed for my friends that I approached him and informed him that we were leaving due to his shocking behaviour. He simply didn't care. He told me to go ahead and write whatever I wanted. When I told him I'd talk to his manager also he didn't care about that either. A complete and utter jerk of a human being that ruined our visit. That said the other staff were fine so hopefully it was just one bad apple.
13/04/2019: Excellent value to the start of the evening from 6pm.

Woodlands Cafe

Ballymacarrett, Belfast
22/03/2019: Hi, Please can you list your opening hours. We would like to come for breakfast on Friday but cant see what time you open. Your phone number doesn't ring out either so may be a fault. Thanks
10/02/2019: Gran pequeña cafetería para calentar después de caminar en el parque. Encantadora comida tradicional - retazos de bandejas, pasteles y bollos. El guiso es increíble! Recargas gratis en el filtro de café.

Benedicts Hotel Restaurant

Shaftesbury, Belfast
10/04/2019: Had a lovely meal here with my cousins the food was excellent and the atmosphere was lovely. I would highly recommend and can’t wait to go back.
31/03/2019: Stayed over on a Tuesday evening for business. The rooms are very pleasant and clean. The bar is vibrant and very popular with live bands (and no I didn’t hear in my hotel room) and offers such as £3.50 cocktails. Got a complimentary drink voucher on check in. Breakfast was very good too.

Deane's at Queens

Botanic, Belfast
18/04/2019: We popped in here after failing to get into any of the cages opposite the Ulster Museum. There would have offered burger and chips of around £8, at Deane’s we had Goujons of coley in brown butter with purple broccoli and confit of duck leg for about £10 each. Both were delicious and served in the modern and calm restaurant with views over to the green to the Methodist college. Well worth the extra !!
05/04/2019: My first visit to Deanes last night - a reunion of QUB colleagues from our second degree course in 1987. By coincidence, Deanes today was the Junior Common Room back then and was where we went for lunch most days!

General Merchants Cafe

Cherryvalley, Belfast
11/04/2019: As always, 5* saved for those who deserve it. General Merchants was recommended by a friend sp i stopped by when passing on route to Derry. I was impressed. The service was great, quirky interior and i didnt feel solo at all sotting at the window watching the world go by. Good music btw! Food, really good. Takeshi Chicken Burger was fresh and full of flavour, just enough zing. The coffee was also brilliant. Could just be my must stop place when passing from now on. Well done!!
08/04/2019: The toilet is unisex and not clean. The toilet seat does not fit well. I'll never return. Tea was ok but large cappuccino here was a regular size elsewhere.

West Cafe

Falls, Belfast
31/03/2019: If your visiting Belfast and want something to eat without fancy price tags the visit the West gourmet Sandwich Bar situated near the now famous Primark Building Castle St it has a great variety of hot and cold sandwiches panninis and a variety of other dishes for the on the go visitor and of course there is always the good old Ulster fry on offer for a reasonable £5.95 that's for the large BTW service as always in our City is friendly and you don't have to wait to long once your order is in only downside you may have to wait on a table especially on Saturdays but don't let that put you off as it wouldn't be long.
