The best restaurants serving British food in Alvescot and Filkins West Oxfordshire South East

I just stopped here for a brief rest while on a long-distance walk, on a mid-week wet afternoon in February, but was struck by how much this felt like a welcoming traditional local pub as well as, clearly, a popular restaurant. Very friendly person serving at the bar too. Will definitely come back for lunch next time I’m here.

Very nice food and friendly service. Recommend the steak pie and the fish cakes. Good value and worth a detour because it’s off the beaten track.

Ordered a roast. Cauliflower cheese was overcooked to the point it had a burnt crust and not edible. Barely two roast potatoes between two people. Overall the dish was dry. Yorkshire pudding was burnt to crisp. The whole thing just looked unappetising. Should have kept an eye on the prices as the bill crept up to £170. There are other places that are better value. Read the reviews, experienced it now time to move on never to return
