Cream tea: Won't go again - very DISAPPOINTED. Good bits: Very old building with quaint approach Lovely staff Decent cup of tea Bad bits: Apart from the plastic tablecloths or bare tables: Scones look great but are terrible. No flavour. No flavour of butter, think they forgot the sugar, or used thin milk ... Whatever they were made of, they tasted more like some sort of flour and water/thin milk Sticky in the middle as if a day old or not cooked enough in the first place Lack of sultanas in fruit scones I didn't say much at the time as a guest was generously paying for us all. It turned out they hadn't said anything as I'd bothered to take them there (and had told them what a lovely place it is/was). The next day I made some scones myself and bought cream and strawberry jam. Unsolicited, my guests were making remarks, tones and gestures about not having enjoyed the Cobblestones scones, and they had been disappointing, that my scones were far better than those in the tea room, that's how a scone should be, taste, ... etc (not to butter me up - they seemed relieved to be able to say what they'd thought about Cobblestones scones) (Negligible: The cream wasn't a very generous portion for the size of scones, and although I didn't pay attention to the packaging I think it was Rodda's. With their turnover the cream must be fresh however it was not the same as from the very fresh pot I bought.) For £8.50 Spring 2025 I'd expect a decent cream tea. Even Morrison's do better with their mass produced scones. National Trust scones are usually very good - try to find one of their tea shops instead, or go just to be in an old building and just have a pot of tea. You'll get a china tea cup but not a china teapot.

We were staying in Shoreham-By-Sea for the weekend and I came across this pub on Tripadvisor. I was a little apprehensive after reading some reviews and seeing the prices but I shouldn’t have been as it was worth every penny as everyone really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was perfect for a family Sunday Roast. Although it was busy the service was great and the food excellent. Between the family we had lamb, beef and pork and all were delicious. Personally it was the best roast lamb I have ever had! I would highly recommend this pub if you are looking for a great Sunday Roast.

We were strangers to Steyning and it certainly felt so when it came to be served. The staff treated the locals like royalty and anyone they did not know as outcasts. we purchased a couple of pastries which were quite nice and left quickly
