We've not been here for a while, but remembered the beautiful setting and decided to bring my elderly mother and our kids along for an afternoon meal. Greeted with some pretty tasteless signs in the car park. We sat down in the garden, which is beautiful still and the service was OK, despite a mix up with our orders so some of the food came out late. Sadly, the food was ridiculously overpriced for what it was (standard fish & chips, pasta dish and burger) and as such, not somewhere I'd recommend because you can get tastier food at the same/less price elsewhere.

We have been here on many occasions and of recent, we have seen the demise from the service provided at The Fountain Inn. Yesterday, what confusion a few drinks and a small plate of olives caused. Debit card left with bar staff, key provided and I was back and forth from the lovely garden ordering more. On my return to top up at the bar I observed that the young bar team were definitely not working as one. Yes it was busy and there was a small queue, although it really did look like utter pandemonium behind the bar. Apart from them forgetting to bring out the olives, that could happen anywhere. The crowning moment was when I went to pay the tab to find that no one had kept a tally on the till of what we had consumed. This had me deep in thought thinking back trying to remember everything I had ordered. Fortunately for The Fountain Inn, I am an honest individual and duly paid what was owed. Training for staff is paramount. It not only benefits the establishment, it also shows your customers that you truly value their custom. Sadly, yesterdays visit definitely wasn’t the case for us.

Beautiful pub with stunning garden. The food was amazing the staff were kind and attentive, had a lovely evening and will definitely become a regular!

Lovely old pub with a very nice garden which is where we chose to sit for an early evening meal. The staff were pleasant and the food delivery was quick. But the food was mediocre and the staff were very inexperienced. We felt we had made an expensive mistake and came away disappointed. But the shortcomings can be remedied and the setting was nice.

Went for Sunday lunch , service was excellent by the young staff very friendly and attentive , we had the chicken roast which was delicious, a minor thing the gravy was a bit thick with onion but certainly didn’t spoil the meal ,

Really disappointing first visit. We had booked for 7 of us, but when taken to our table we were given two separate tables of four. After seeing our disappointment they offered to put them together, which they did, but they were at completely different heights. Our booking was at 3pm but they’d already run out of lamb and cauliflower cheese, crazy. The roast potatoes were completely dried out as well. All really avoidable issues that should be addressed. We won’t be returning, such a shame.

Love this historic pub. The team are always so welcoming and make you feel at home. The food is locally sourced and very high quality. The specials on the blackboard are really worth trying

After reading good reviews, especially dog friendly we booked a table on line Arriving we got seated in a squashed table, poor dogs had to lay underneath table to s avoid being stood on No water offered for dogs Small selection on menu ,ordered food My portion of fish pie was so small ,size of muffin, all mash fish must swam away. Deserts ,my partner wanted ice-cream, so I asked about special board mentioned on line, said they would make a rocky road sundea This turned out to be chocolate ice-cream scoops only quarter fall in glass When Bill arrived I was charged for fish and chips, queried this and told all fish dishes are same price even though this was more than price shown on menu for fish 7 We will not be returning or recommend to anybody else Small portion for expensive price

I arrange for 10 of us to go for afternoon tea at The Fountain today. The sandwiches were freshly made, and delicious. The scones and almond slices were yummy and tea, coffee and cappuccinos refreshing. To top it off the service was very friendly and efficient. We will be doing this again very soon 😊

We came across this pub purely by chance last night. What a fantastic place. We sat in a nice cosy bar with an open fire at the side of the bar . Alex and Lindsay made us feel very welcome and we ended up staying for a few hours. Will definitely be going back very soon.

We called in for lunch as we were passing. We’re fairly local but had not been here for a number of years. We received a warm welcome and were seated in a bar area with a nice open fire. We ordered half a Guinness and a pint of (very excellent) Harveys. We ordered the Harissa Poussin and the Lamb Chops, both arriving fairly quickly. Both dishes were beautifully cooked and very tasty. Overall a great experience, with excellent and friendly service. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

We always love going to The Fountain. Arrived yesterday to a very warm welcome from Alex and Lindsey the landlord and landlady. Had a lovely table in the front bar by a roaring fire. We both decided to have the Roast Sirloin of Beef. It was absolutely delicious as were all the vegetables and plenty of tasty gravy. If you are looking for a good pub for Sunday lunch or actually anytime, I highly recommend you go and try The Fountain. Along with great food it has a very special atmosphere and very attentive staff. We look forward to our next visit.

Nice food but really overpriced. I actually thought the kitchen had forgotten the cabbage from my sausage and mash. It was such a tiny amount - no more than garnish. Such a shame.

5 off us went in after a wet ride on our motorcycles. I had fish and chips and 2 pints of long man innkeeper the beer was very good but it should at £7 a pint. The fish and chip was £17.50 though it nicely presented it was no worth £17 won't go again.

My wife and I had intended to visit this pub for many years in view of its role in the "Wonderful Christmas time" video of 1979. We were very impressed with the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. We would visit fequently if we could but alas we live 90 minutes drive away

Had such a lovely Sunday afternoon and they accommodated our party of 9 last minute! The service was spot on and quick, very attentive. The food was really good, we mostly had roasts and the portions were huge! It was very tasty. Lovely pub!

First visit to this pub and even-though a lovely cozy pub the price of the meal was pretty hefty. 175 ml of wine £8.50. Small portion of lasagne, 2 small slices of garlic bread £17. Not value for money at all as charging restaurants prices for a country pub. It was disappointing

We came for dinner and the pub quiz, the food was excellent, fish and chips were fresh, delicious and the fish was so tender. Also had biscoff cheesecake and they kindly changed the ice cream for cream, again was delicious. Pub quiz was great fun and it was a fabulous evening. Will definitely be back.

The food was good but overall we thought over priced . 2 glasses of wine ,1 pint of beer, 2 sausage mash and veg and 1 ham egg and chips and the bill was £85. The wine was £9 per glass. Just a lot of money for a quick pub meal.

Revisited the Fountain inn after a couple of years and we were not disappointed. We met the owner Lyndsey who was very nice, and Kaye who looked after us extremely well. Superb afternoon. We started with drinks in the cosy bar then made our way to the attached skittle alley where we enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch. Very tasty, hot & generous portions. The staff were really friendly & totally ‘on the hall’ with anything we needed. A fun time was had by all playing skittles. Thank you for your attentive service.

Fantastic food, great location, very happy anniversary meal. The only downside was some other diners who had some issues with their food that the owner bent over backwards to rectify. They just would not stop griping. Our meal was delicious, fish and chips with a beautiful flaky fish in great batter and double cooked chips. My wife's beef roast was lovely and a huge portion. Would definitely recommend.

We had sandwiches - £12 each - one BLT and one salmon. They came with a small portion of chips ( no salad ) and unfortunately no butter on the bread ! I think one had the taste of a cheap margerine spread! The BLT still had the rind on ! - on a very small portion. The other salmon - had definitely the minimum amount of salmon a restaurant could ' get away with'. The bread was 'thick cut' - but especially with the brown - not that fresh. Sad to say - because I think it is important to support pubs in the current situation - we would not go back - a bill of £32 for indifferent sandwiches, and bitter definitely not at its best isn't acceptable ! I really would urge them to look at their offering - at £12 for these sandwiches - not realistic !

Had a fantastic lunch on Saturday and so booked for Sunday lunch the next day and was equally impressed. The Fountain Inn, Ashurst, is a real gem of a pub. Great food, great service and more than reasonably priced. With a restaurant, a BBQ and the very impressive champagne & seafood bar, you're pretty spoilt for choice and all in a quintessential, traditional English country pub. What more could you ask for. Try it out - you won't be disappointed.

We enjoyed an 80th birthday celebration in the skittle bar with food from the Love Shack. It was a great friendly atmosphere and the staff were very helpful. Lindsay helped to set the atmosphere and the food was delicious.

Really lovely old pub. Good parking. Dog and child friendly. Lovely staff and the food was amazing - very happy. Beatles fans will love it (Paul McCartney shot the video for Wonderful Christmastime there!) It’s very old-worldly and building is beautiful and very snug on a rainy day like it was for us!

Such a beautiful place and the staff were lovely. The landlady was so friendly and chatty and told us about loads of events that the pub will be holding over the summer so defo looking forward to heading back. The beef roast…. Unreal! The place has an amazing reputation so definitely wanted to see for myself and they truly lived up to it! Already planning our next trip back! Brought 2 dogs as very dog friendly and a beautiful outdoor area with a duck pond, bbq which smelt amazing and lots of seating areas. Great parking and just a beautiful scenic place !

What a wonderful discovery this was. An attractive historic public house full of charm. A skittles game in a converted barn was great fun, as it was a charity event. The staff were very friendly and the choice on the menue was extensive. The fish, or meat BBQ small or large plate options. We chose the roast lamb for me, beef for for my partner. Deliciously tender, great portions so we were full by the end. Great service throughout. We will return.

Real shame but everything about this visit was dreadful, I don’t write reviews but the way everything was handled was just terrible. We visited last year and had the best bbq meal so we got our bunch of friends back to together and thought we would go again well we won’t be returning again. We wanted to order off the bbq but there was a lot missing so we decided against it. As not all of us fancied a roast we looked at the scampi and chips. To then be told once order 10 minutes later there was no scampi as all there fridges went down last night and had no electric and they couldn’t save the food which then got us worried to how they managed the rest of the menus meat. Any ways she offered us anything thing else of the menu we both chose chicken Goujons and salad which was a kids menu but she said no worries we’re make it into a full meal. Well once it turned up there was a teaspoon of peas about 10 skinny chips and 3 bits of dry burnt chicken we sent it back and told them not to worry. The manager then came over saying I’m really sorry about that I walked through the kitchen and told the chef not to send that out as it looked fu***** terrible *her words* but somehow it still ended up making it to our table she offered to re do it and it wouldn’t be charged to our bill which was okay but meant to were then eating once every one else had finished we asked 4 times for horseradish for the table which we then had to get up and get our selfs meaning the beef was getting cold or didn’t have it to eat with the meal. Another ones of our guest had the hummus which came out warm and wasn’t very nice that also got taken off the bill wasn’t offered anything else. It was blamed on that they only had one chef and he was very stressed as they had a large table come in that they weren’t expecting and the fact the electric went down yesterday morning which I understand must have been hard but let people know what you don’t have before they get menus. Once we sorted the bill which was a nothing mess we left and heard the chef and the manager swearing and shouting at each other which people were getting up and looking at what was going on and the staff were saying don’t go in there to other member of staff it was clearly about us and the way the food was sent out and the fact the manager voided the meals off the bill. All in all it was terrible. Real same coz last year it was a beautiful bbq. And a beautiful setting.

What a shame, lovely setting and good service but small portions of expensive not very good food bulked out with a load of dry rocket.
