Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.

Birthday treat for my wife. Third visit to this amazing place and it never disappoints. The food is absolutely amazing and Lucy and the rest of the staff are so welcoming, friendly and thoroughly professional. Need to go more often, if you visit Grange and need food, head here, you won't be disappointed.

I stayed with my daughter for 2 nights before Christmas. I booked the family room so that we had a bed each. On arrival we found that the 2nd bed was in another room within the room (there was a main room, single room, bathroom and hallway). It was a single bed and table in a tiny room, nothing on the walls, the curtains were put up so badly that it looked like a squat. We couldn’t open them. The whole room was freezing cold, not just cold. It felt as though there had been no heating on for days, if not weeks. The bedding and pillows were cold and felt almost damp. I had paid for early check in, but the radiator was not on. I went down to enquire and was told that the heating was on a timer – this was the middle of December! Paying for early check in means the room will be ready, this was not done. The table and chairs by the window are lovely – but the chairs were shabby and stained, we sat on the bed instead. We ate in the bar the first night, the food was ok, expensive though and not worth the money. Food was thrown on the plate, frozen fries, no garnish etc. Although my daughter had a wonderful Dutch apple dessert – a lot of thought had been put into that. Hardly any veggie choices – usual margerita pizza and pasta with sauce, yawn. We cancelled our booking for the next night and ate out instead. Breakfast was great, all well made, nice coffee. The staff are all friendly and lovely. The next night there was a storm. The windows whistled all night. The curtains didn’t close properly. I ended up in bed with the duvet, a bathroom towel and my coat on top of me! In the bathroom there was a locked cupboard (boiler?) which had a vent on the outside wall. The vent whistled and rattled all night. I know that this is an old building, but when you are charging £120 per night then the rooms have to be to standard. It isn’t boutique, nor quirky, nor shabby chic, it is just shabby. The Inn is in a great position, with wonderful views but we found it disappointing and were glad to leave, it wasn’t the weekend we were hoping for.

A stunning little cafe set in the grounds of Holker Hall. We called in for a cuppa and sweet treats after spending the afternoon wandering around the grounds. We were lucky enough to have a glorious autumn day, so were able to sit out in the courtyard, which is beautiful. The staff were amazing, so friendly. The prices were good too, I was actually surprised at how reasonable it was, given the location. I had a pot of tea and shortbread, which was to die for! Such a wonderful little spot, it’s a must try when in the area.
