We stopped in on a recent trip up the English canals, invited in by some charming folks on the tow-path. It was amazing. Exceptional food, both modern and classic. A wide range of tasty gluten free. Kind and helpful staff that warmly welcomed us on a grey and muddy day. Lovely guests who engaged us in lively banter in a cozy dining nook in front of an open fire. A chef who checked on us during the meal and then upon hearing from the wait staff that I'd never had a sausage roll, appalled, he sent me one from the kitchen gratis. Thanks all. You are beautiful. We loved it.

Pass here often out walking and not ventured in since last year. Spotted the generously filled custard slice and went for it. Friendly people, efficient service and the tables are cleaned after each visit. Mug of tea and the custard slice was delicious, like they all used to be when I was growing up.

The staff here were very friendly, cheerful and helpful throughout our visit. We went for breakfast on a Tuesday morning, but there was hardly anybody else there so very little atmosphere and we did feel a bit exposed. The coffee (flat white) was absolutely delicious - one of the best that I’ve had in a very long time. My friend ordered Eggs Benedict, but was told that they didn’t have any ham! Really?! She had to settle for bacon instead. I ordered the full English, without certain bits, which was absolutely massive. Everything was great - tasty sausages, perfectly cooked bacon, crispy hash browns - all well cooked except for the eggs. The poached eggs on my friend’s breakfast were way overcooked with no runny yolks. On the other hand, the yolks of my fried eggs were ‘snotty’ on top but beginning to get solid at the bottom. Surely a chef knows how to baste the yolk on a fried egg? Even I can get that right.
