Just had a great meal and dessert, with my wife Lindsey, in what was a very busy night, but looked after by the lovely Leah, who ensured that what we ordered was planned to perfection. So well done to the chefs and bar staff for a great meal and spot on service. Eric Speakman.

Celebrating my mums 80th birthday was an absolute delight here. The staff were warm, welcoming and attentive from the moment we placed the booking. The food was outstanding, served promptly (and piping hot) to all 26 of us. They graciously catered for one of our diners, who has challenges around certain food groups. A surprise complimentary glass of fizz for my mum was a lovely personal touch. I would absolutely recommend dining here.

We booked a table for 2 today and Sutton Hall is a lovely place in gorgeous grounds. We were quickly seated and the place was getting booked up. Service was excellent as were the starters. My Beef and Porchetta roast was excellent, a very large portion, no room for dessert, the side order of Cauliflower Cheese is a must. Definitely book and you won’t be disappointed.

Normally love this place ( we eat there quite often on a Sunday) but today the beef roast was awful. The texture of the gluten free Yorkshire was not pleasant, the beef was almost like boil in the bag. The potatoes were seedy, there was one small carrot on the plate. As a side dish the cauliflower cheese potion was tiny compared to other visits. We did have a late lunch so my feeling was they had run out of beef, it certainly wasn’t pink and the texture was slimy not like it had been freshly cut. I should have complained but we were with friends and didn’t want to spoil the atmosphere. Such a pity will certainly not have the beef again on a Sunday!

The staff here were very friendly, cheerful and helpful throughout our visit. We went for breakfast on a Tuesday morning, but there was hardly anybody else there so very little atmosphere and we did feel a bit exposed. The coffee (flat white) was absolutely delicious - one of the best that I’ve had in a very long time. My friend ordered Eggs Benedict, but was told that they didn’t have any ham! Really?! She had to settle for bacon instead. I ordered the full English, without certain bits, which was absolutely massive. Everything was great - tasty sausages, perfectly cooked bacon, crispy hash browns - all well cooked except for the eggs. The poached eggs on my friend’s breakfast were way overcooked with no runny yolks. On the other hand, the yolks of my fried eggs were ‘snotty’ on top but beginning to get solid at the bottom. Surely a chef knows how to baste the yolk on a fried egg? Even I can get that right.

Booked for a lunch with 3 adults and 3 young children. We arrived before midday and given a table right near a door way. Hardly any room for 2 high chairs and nowhere for the pram. We put the pram over near the fireplace to be told we couldn’t leave it there but was offered no alternative. Another waiter did eventually offer us a place to put the pram. We were sat for 15 mins before we were offered drinks and menus. After ordering we then waiting a further hour for food- which with 3 small children is no mean feat to keep them still and entertained. At no point did anyone apologise or offer more drinks. People that ordered after us were getting their food and in the end we had to ask- again no apology. No one came over during our meal either to ask if we were enjoying it. I mentioned this when we payed on leaving and a half arsed apology was given. Get the impression it isn’t very child friendly. The food however was very tasty, shame as our over all dining experience was tainted by the lack of hospitality by the staff.

Really disappointed after a lovely experience just a week before on a Tuesday. Me and my husband hadn't been for years after we thought it had gone downhill, but due to another pub being shut, I'd booked in last minute with five people and they had loved the place, the smashing welcome from the staff and the food, so I decided to treat me and the husband to a Sunday lunch there, expecting the same outcome. No complaints with the welcome or the staff again, but when presented with my beef dinner I was dismayed to see the meat draped over a spoonful of cabbage, watery gravy, three roast potatoes (I prefer mash too!) and some sort of pureé (which gave an overwhelming aftertaste of licking a wooden lolly stick) and honestly thought 'seasonal vegetables', as per the menu, would at least include carrots, especially as my husband had one carrot with his pork, which he gave me. Deflated, I started on the meat, which turned out to be a struggle to cut with a normal knife due to connective tissue, and was not only gelatinous, but tasteless too without having to add a massive amount of salt. I gave up after one slice. I was so fed up as we also happened to be really hungry, where normally I'd go for just a starter as I can get overfaced by a big meal. We never complain but when asked by the member of staff how it was, we actually told her because I was so disappointed, including the carrot issue - the carrot my husband gave me had honestly been the highlight! She was genuinely interested and said she'd go back to the chef with my comments and came back with vouchers for £12 off 'next time we go'...but we won't be going, so they were futile. To add insult to injury we stood up to leave to see the adjacent table just being served with beef and saw carrots on both plates...so my carrot had just been left off after all, which the staff member didn't admit to! My conclusion is that it's probably volume of covers on Sundays far outweighs quality compared to weekdays, but for £22, it's not even a cheap roast. You have to pay extra for 'sides', which you don't think you'll need unless you're absolutely ravenous, as you sort of expect the basics to be on the plate already. (Yorkshire pudding £1.50, Pigs in blankets £6.25, buttered vegetables £4.50 - which YOU NEED!) I had to have a McDonald's cheeseburger on the way home when we stopped for petrol because I was so hungry. (Actually, reading this back, I'm now quite angry!)

Service started out badly but improved. We had come for the Saturday brunch and arrived before noon but were told brunch had finished. We were shown to our table and left alone. A couple staff members were talking about us, but not talking to us. Staff members lit the candles on every table but ours. Around the time we were preparing to get up and walk out, a staff member finally came to take our order. I should point out it was not busy at all. Broccoli and cheese soup was very good - highly recommended.

The Sutton has become a bit more unpredictable recently with very variable service. Last night we waited a long time for our food, but when it came it was truly excellent. Joel was our server for the evening and he was extremely good, helpful and professional. He is a great person to have looking after you. When asked about the wait he went away to find out and came back with a reasonable explanation, and I felt my query had been properly addressed. Two comments I would add though are that if there are dishes that have a 20 minute wait time that should be mentioned on the menu, and that if too many orders at one time are an issue at 6:30 at night a venue like this should ensure it has the staff to manage that.

On a Sunday in May, my partner and I had the pleasure of dining at Sutton Hall, courtesy of an invitation from our neighbours. Our lunch was scheduled for 1 pm, and the drive up to the hall set a lovely tone for the afternoon. Nestled in a quintessentially English country setting, the hall presented a visual feast of meticulously maintained grounds dotted with vibrant tulips in full bloom. Upon entering, we were captivated by the elegant décor featuring polished wood fixtures that gleamed under the soft lighting. We were seated in the green room, a wonderfully serene space that offered a cool retreat to relax and enjoy the company. The lunch itself was delightful; I chose the bacon steak with chunky chips which was cooked to perfection, while our friends savoured their steak sandwiches. The table service managed by Archie was flawless. He was very friendly, welcoming us with the warmth usually reserved for regular patrons. For dessert, I indulged in a cheesecake accompanied by a raspberry sorbet, which was simply delightful. After the meal, we took a leisurely stroll around the splendid grounds to fully absorb the beauty of Sutton Hall before heading home. This experience left us thoroughly impressed with the beautiful setting, flawless service, and exquisite food, all served at just the right pace. We certainly plan to return; for my partner and me, it was an exceptional first visit. A big thank you to Archie and the team at Sutton Hall for such a memorable experience, which I'm pleased to rate at 5 out of 5, as it was absolutely faultless.

I arranged a family gathering for 50 at Sutton hall this weekend. Having struggled to get in contact with the restaurant over the phone for the past couple of weeks, I was nervous for what the day/event would hold as everything was done via email, even the last minute changes the day before. I needn't have worried. Service was excellent, the food was tasty and so well organised including carefully catering for multiple allergies. We had pre-ordered off the menu too so lots of different dishes. Ordinarily I would say that my only gripe is that it can be a bit loud but, on this occasion, that was probably down to having 50 people in one lunch party! I highly recommend Sutton Hall if you're in the area or looking to hold a gathering. There's a tractor outside for the kids to play on, they allow dogs in certain areas and there's items of interest all over the place. That's all on top of great food, great drinks and great service. Thank you.

I booked a table for two for a Friday lunchtime. We will locate us in an excellent position in the library room. Knowing the building well, being a fairly frequent visitor, this is pleasant seating area if choosing to sit inside. Continuous rain meant the choice of the cage or the patio area was unsuitable. We both choose a light lunch which was tasty and nicely presented. Not wishing to have a dessert we concluded with two coffees. We were served by Sarah J. who is professional and welcoming being both courteous and competent. I would not hesitate to recommend a visit to this unique property where both service and quality of food is to a high standard.

This is so galling. Sutton Hall used to be one of my favourite haunts, and still should be, but it desperately needs better management. The menu is fairly bland and never changing, fine for a one-off visit, but boring for repeats. Even having a specials board (as they used to) would be a major improvement. Some of the staff are excellent, but others would benefit from training and management guidance.Little attention is paid to COVID-19 precautions, no staff wearing masks and customers back to congregating at the bar.Opening times are inconsistent, and do not match those stated on the web-site. More care about the amenities would help (outdoor heaters not working, tables not cleared, some chairs pretty uncomfortable) The location is superb, inside interestingly decorated and outside wonderful in the Summer. If the issues could be addressed it should return to former glories

We ordered calamari, chicken with bbq wings, broccoli and Stilton soup and fish and chips. 15 mins later, the server later told us that they’d ran out of calamari. (Even though it was 12 midday!) The chicken wings were over fried and too dry. The soup was served and it tasted like dishwater. It was awful. Bland and tasteless. I didn’t eat it and told the server that it wasn’t good. She apologised and deducted the soup from my bill. The fish and chips were nice, but it’s hard to get that wrong. I won’t eat there again.

Took my Mum for a light lunch, had previously enjoyed meals in their sister pub and was looking forward to it. The building is fabulous, a good range of real ales and a menu that would appeal to everyone. Food was first rate and all the staff we met were friendly and welcoming - Mum is already planning her next visit!!

Thanks to the team for a great experience at Sutton Hall on Saturday night. We stopped overnight with our motorhome and had dinner for our wedding anniversary (a fair exchange after all!!). The team moved our table forward an hour (we were starving LOL) and had a nice meal in relaxed and beautiful building with lovely peaceful surroundings. We had a nice walk along the Macclesfield Canal (2 minutes walk away) and an early morning enjoying the view across the fields. Good and friendly service, made even better by the personal welcome by the manager who came to say hello at our table and remembered details from the chat we'd had by email.

We’ve been visiting Sutton Hall for many years and have always recommended it to others, however, our visit last week has left us in no hurry to visit again. We were celebrating a family special occasion and on the online booking form had asked for a table in the library, or close to it. When we arrived, we were shown to a table right by the corridor for the toilets next to the bar area - this was a dog friendly area (we don’t have dogs) and there were 2 at the table next to ours whom the owners kept on a lead but they did bark a bit. Not a great start! The menu was very disappointing, there used to be many more appetising choices, my parents really struggled to chose something. No fish pie, (affordable) steak, gammon etc. I ordered the salmon and smoked haddock fish cakes from the lighter bites section - they were very mushy inside, no chunks of real fish like you used to get and no real fish flavour. The steak and ale pie, the burger and the ham, egg and chips were just ok. We didn’t bother with dessert! This place has gone from very good gastro pub to your usual pub grub but the prices haven’t been lowered to reflect this. Underwhelmed!

Expensive pub food, our second visit and the portion sizes were very variable especially as I ordered the same starter. However the service was excellent, would I rush back, no! On the positive it's a lovely character full building set in lovely grounds.

We went for a lovely family birthday lunch, however whilst we were there my Dad who is 85 felt unwell (probably due to the heat of the day) our waitress Grace overheard our conversation and immediately offered assistance without causing a fuss, we moved Dad inside to the shade, sorted the bill and got him home, where I am happy to say he’s made a complete recovery. We all had a lovely lunch and the service was very good and friendly but extra praise must go to Grace for the way she handled our situation, without causing my Dad any embarrassment and without drawing attention to us, very professional , thank you

Met up with family we hadn't seen for a while. Had a wonderful evening. Plenty of parking. The service from the moment we arrived was excellent. We received a warm greeting on arrival and food and drink was delivered in a reasonable time, The staff approached us regularly to ensure everything was OK and was there anything we required. Beer was good. Om a warm evening we were given option to eat in or out and choose in. Ambiance of the place was pleasant. The food was OK typical British Pub fare. Indoors I felt Covid Safe even though the restrictions had been lifted.

Called in for a drink after a nice day out. Member of staff who served us was friendly and helpful, but that's where it stopped unfortunately. We had asked if they were still doing food and was it possible we might get something to eat. No problem was the reply and we were given a sheet menu to look at.Decided to go outside at first on the rear patio. A young lady did approach us to see if we were ready to order, but we asked if we could go back indoors to eat as it had gone cold outside. We were pointed in the direction of a rear entrance and that somebody would be able to see to us.We stood waiting patiently in what can only be described as a transit area between the kitchen and the various dining rooms. A tall spectacled chap with a coloured quiff eventually acknowledged us as to what we wanted? I asked if it was possible to have a table for the 2 of us to have some food. Somewhat abruptly we were told he wasn't sure and would have a look for us.After several more minutes of waiting with drink in hand he re-appeared and asked us to wait in a side room. I believe this was called the 'locals bar'. Time ticked by and it was impossible to ignore that a lot of the tables in this room had lots of dirty plates and glasses left on the tables after people had clearly had meals. Quite unsightly and off-putting to be honest. Eventually, the gentleman who had initially served us our drinks saw us and pointed us in the direction of a corner set of chairs and table where we would be more comfortable.Time slowly ticked by and yet still we hadn't been told what was happening regarding the table for 2 enquiry ?? A member of staff did appear at one point, but that was only to clear the tables that were left in a right state.19:39 we were served our drinks.....and by 20:31 we were still waiting to hear something. After approximately another 5-10 mins, the chap with the quiff who shoo shooed us into this room approached us and asked if everything was ok ? I responded with 'you are kidding aren't you ? we were hoping to have some food and yet we've been left waiting almost an hour for you to get back to us. We've had our drinks so we are going now' His response was a simple apology and that we must have been lost in transit as they were busy. HE put us in that room in the first place.....and strange how people who came in after us all seemed to get the service we were so shockingly denied ??Very poor to be honest, not the best of customer service......and i would suggest an improvement regarding leaving dirty plates and glasses for quite such the length of time as we witnessed. Poor hygiene standards to be fair, I'm sure the flies and wasps coming through the open door didn't mind the food waste and leftover drinks though.....they will have had a field day.....at least they got something to eat!!!

A beautiful location on a beautiful day to eat. Although COVID rules relaxed we felt uneasy. Outdoor tables closely packed. We were seated in a very small room with two other groups, tables less than 2m apart despite a lot of space elsewhere in the building. We really should have asked to be moved. The staff did wear masks and sanitised tables. The food was excellent.

Only visited for drinks thankfully as the service was terribly slow and it wasn't particularly busy. Thankfully we had already eaten elsewhere as we had originally considered here. Prices don't warrant service or atmosphere.

Nice setting, lovely staff but disappointing food. Two steak baguette were almost inedible. Dreadful cuts of steak that were full of fat. The kitchen would have known and still served it.

Called in after lockdown for a few pints in the garden.Enjoyed the Lucan bitter as always, but when the bill came I was shocked to see the price had risen to £4.00 a pint.Come on, this is a pub in Cheshire, not central London. The other pubs in Sutton have kept prices to pre lockdown rates, £4 a pint is just too much.As much as I enjoy the Hall, I cannot justify paying the inflated beer prices.Hope they get revised to a more sensible rate, then I will be back.

I went with my mother for Christmas lunch but were both very disappointed. The jus with my starter came separately and after I was halfway through it so very dry. The main course vegetables were rock hard so my mum could not eat any. The roasted potatoes seemed to be just frozen from the supermarket, no real taste, the red cabbage and sweet potato mash were cold. My Christmas pudding sauce was lumpy an had no hint of the brandy. Mum's chocolate plate items were tasty but so dry as to be inedible quite quickly, just some pouring cream would have been required. Then despite the menu including tea and coffee and mince pies we were charged extra for them until I rejected the bill. £80 each for what was school dinner quality food. I know it is Christmas but this actually spoiled our day not added to it. I won't be back either at Christmas or any other time.

This is one of the best restaurants we have visited. The personnel can’t do enough for you especially Pan and Angie. We have been here 3 months in a row and each time Pam and Angie have been superb ambassadors for the hotel

We turned up and our booking had been done for the wrong day, completely our fault! There was 7 of us but Chloe was great helping us to find a table for the 7 of us in the bar area which we were fine with as the bar and restaurant were really busy, so we were very lucky. We had great bar service from Jack, who pulls a good pint. Food was lovely and enjoyed by all, will definitely be coming again. Thanks
