wonderful restaurant - imaginative food at a good price, lovely staff and classy venue - the food is modern, well prepared and inventive - a cut above the local competition - so sad it is now closed

Absolutely terrible , booked 3 days in advance for lunch needed have bothered arrived on time no one else in the establishment! To us says a lot going with instinct we should have left , however we gave it the benefit of the doubt..2 minutes later 2 other people arrived . We sat nearby the window to savour the views bear in mind it’s still “winter” and unbelievably so inside as we sat in our overcoats as it was as much freezing inside as it was out ! The waitress came took our orders for drinks very pleasant girl , very efficient but from then on went further downhill after drinks were served she took our food orders my other half ordered the hake dish , myself just the fish & chip offer as no other meal appealed ..one hour later no sign of food ..no apologies for delay etc again we were contemplating asking for the bill for just the drinks ,by this time 3 other patrons had arrived ordered drinks & food which were delivered well before ours ! 1 hour & 5 minutes ours arrived ..the hake was served supposedly on “ crushed roast potatoes “ with buttered beans and creamy tomato sauce ..I wished at this point I had taken a photo all I can describe it it was a bowl of mush , I myself had the most greasy fish & chips I have ever encountered sadly we both left our meals I have to note not once did ant of the catering or bar staff asked if everything was ok , I think in my opinion they were too embarrassed to sum in all in a nut shell will not be returning .

Lovely little village shop, lovely service, this is why 3 stars, we have been 3 times and sadly our last, the ice cream is poor considering it is supposed to be premium, water crystals in the ice cream on each visit with all flavours tried weak in taste, cherry, rum & raisin, cookie dough, white chocolate and more. I don’t like writing reviews like this but the ice cream is not good enough and that goes for what is sold at the new shop in Abbey village. Find a better premium ice cream or change the method of making.

I am so pleased to see this pub is so busy. The lovely owners Chris and Liz are super friendly as soon as you walk through the door! Along with the lovely team for who nothing is ever too much trouble. I had the chicken Caesar salad with some chips, which was spot on, loads of tasty chicken with anchovies! Lou had the roast beef Sunday dinner, which she thoroughly enjoyed, our friends had cheese pie and rag pudding and said they were both absolutely delicious! Our chocolate Labrador, Dexter, had a doggie dinner and if there had been a pattern on the dish he would have licked that off, so I can only presume he enjoyed it too 😂🐶 All this washed down with a nice couple of pints , all in all a lovely way to finish a Sunday walk around the Wayoh on a Sunday afternoon. I would heartily recommend a visit here for food, drinks etc. thank you Liz, Chris and team

Excellent food from a comprehensive menu with lots of pub classics. Great keg beers as well as the usual lager. Service was excellent with very friendly staff. Food arrived quickly and well presented. We'll definitely be going back. Recommended.

We used to eat here in the past and it was nice enough then ? However, The Rock now has new owners and we much prefer it. So please only take note of the most recent reviews. First of all - as soon as you walk in your are welcomed, which is unusual these days unfortunately, but it's always been an important first impression I find. All the staff are very friendly and helpful with a big smile. The service was quick and efficient too. The menu has some traditional fayre and also mediterranean options, so would suit anyone easily. They also have a specials board each day, all homemade including the desserts. We both had the steak and agreed it was the best we had eaten for a long time - this is a big compliment from my husband . . . he had the bread and butter pudding too and loved it. There's a good selection of drinks on offer by the way, including a very nice prosecco for me, my other half was driving and so had the 0% - oh well ! Overall a nice afternoon out in lovely Tockholes :) and the restaurant has gorgeous views, would definitely recommend. Thank you all - we'll definitely be back soon x

We stopped here for food following a walk round Wayoh Reservoir we all had the Sunday roast which was lovely and the children had the margarita pizza. Really nice food and reasonably priced. Would recommend.
