Absolutely terrible , booked 3 days in advance for lunch needed have bothered arrived on time no one else in the establishment! To us says a lot going with instinct we should have left , however we gave it the benefit of the doubt..2 minutes later 2 other people arrived . We sat nearby the window to savour the views bear in mind it’s still “winter” and unbelievably so inside as we sat in our overcoats as it was as much freezing inside as it was out ! The waitress came took our orders for drinks very pleasant girl , very efficient but from then on went further downhill after drinks were served she took our food orders my other half ordered the hake dish , myself just the fish & chip offer as no other meal appealed ..one hour later no sign of food ..no apologies for delay etc again we were contemplating asking for the bill for just the drinks ,by this time 3 other patrons had arrived ordered drinks & food which were delivered well before ours ! 1 hour & 5 minutes ours arrived ..the hake was served supposedly on “ crushed roast potatoes “ with buttered beans and creamy tomato sauce ..I wished at this point I had taken a photo all I can describe it it was a bowl of mush , I myself had the most greasy fish & chips I have ever encountered sadly we both left our meals I have to note not once did ant of the catering or bar staff asked if everything was ok , I think in my opinion they were too embarrassed to sum in all in a nut shell will not be returning .

Finally a lovely, all be it chilly, day to go out for a walk round the reservoirs. On our way home, we called in at the King Bill for a late lunch. We had visited the night before to have drink, and watch the open mic night that they now have on once a month. What a great night. We listened to singers, guitarists, a pianist and accordionist. A really good mix of talent. Today when we arrived, we were greated by a lovely log fire. The food was delicious as usual. I usually have the fish dish off the specials. Today's offering was sea bass. Yum! My husband had the mushroom starter, which was very tasty and a small cheese and onion pie, which was a perfect size. We then shared an amazing milk chocolate and blackcurrant cheesecake. My favourite!! The service as always was excellent and the staff friendly and welcoming. Thank you for helping us to warm up and treating us to some lovely food, before setting off on our journey home.

We have been occasional visitors here for over 40 years. So have seen lots of change. I think that having established a regular clientele they now think they can rest on their laurels. Anyone in the catering trade should know that you are only as good as the last meal that you served. The menu was repetitious using some main ingredients repeatedly throughout, I ordered Hake on crushed potatoes with buttered green beans, the potatoes were a baked potatoe broken up and forced into a large ring, making a tasteless solid lump. It was different temperatures in different areas, the plate was dangerously hot so the bottom part of the potatoes was actually hot. The beans were barely cooked, with no sigh of butter, if there was butter it was soaked up by the potatoes that the beans were impressed into. Both had little or no seasoning. The hake was described as baked, three pieces at the top of the tower. Two were overcooked so much that the ends had curled up and gone hard, my guess is that this dish was never hot all the way through, but it sat on the pass under a hot light for a long time as the very top was overcooked, as were the tiny prawns ( i would describe them as shrimps ) the third piece of fish was actually nicely cooked. I barely ate anything but no one asked me was my meal alright. In fact no one at our table or any other nearby table was asked if they were happy with the food. A pub that for many years didn't accept dogs, despite being in a popular walking area. Now it does accept dogs, we are grateful for this. But like most diners we don’t want to listen to another dog barking repeatedly during our meal. Amazingly we and other dog owners all managed to stop our own dogs to stop reacting to the nuisance dog. No staff approached the barking dog’s owner to request it was controlled or taken outside. Profit doesn’t seem to be important I had practically finished my drink when the food arrived but no one asked if we wanted more drinks until we had finished eating. Ordering dessert was risky but I was hungry. Some things were not available. The sticky toffee pudding had nuts in, never seen that before? So a warm brownie seemed a safe option, I was surprised that it didn't say served with ice cream, yet it arrived with ice cream. It didn't look like a brownie. It was a slice of chocolate cake about 1 cm thick with a flake crumbled over it. Edible but not as described. The whole menu is a mess lots of repetition of both. and & used side by side . No advice or symbols about allergies or intolerances . I wish I had asked advice on something to see if the staff had any knowledge. I made no complaints as we had been invited to dine by a friend who is a local. I knew she would not want any fuss. As someone else described the staff seemed happy to all be near the bar chatting. A dangerous step as you exit through the main door, does have a mind your step warning but in the dark it is a big surprise as you step into space. This Pub probably carries the name of our next monarch, what a shame its standards are not suitably maintained to serve him.

Stopped for lunch as had always fancied trying this place out, the pub was very cold and we had to keep our outdoor coats on, it wasnt busy and the server was nice, for the price of the main menu i would have expected better, fish and chips probably the worst ive had, the oil tasted stale like it needed to be changed, chips overcooked did not look apealing and had a funny taste, the fried cabbage on the other meal was burnt in places, we left disapointed and will not return, nice menu but did not deliver on taste or value..

Pub advertised as closed, drive passed and it is open, called in to ask if open and told yes. Building work going on, but not excessive, electrics going on and off and toilet lights not on. Ordered drinks in a freezing cold building, we should have left and gone elsewhere but hey Ho..!!! Ordered food and when it arrived it was nice but we just wanted to be warm so even tho food was nice it was that cold we just wanted to go home. I felt sorry for the staff trying there best but sometimes pub owners just need to close and stop being greedy opening when places are not ready to eat in. Food nice, to cold, no apologies offered, no discount offered, £105 for 3 people, no heating, broken electrics..! Not good really, wouldn’t go back any time soon..!!

I have been coming here for the past 15 years and always had amazing food, service and the atmosphere has been excellent......... until today. All i can say is never again. The service was appalling. Alot of things on the menu were out of stock which i do understand - but when you order food and it does not come with 2 main items and you ask why to be told oh we have ran out. Where is the communication here. So we split the bill 2 ways - well the boys face at the bar - he looked at us like we had 3 heads. I told the girl at the bar about the bad experience to be told oh sorry - not even a what happened or sorry

Me and my girlfriend visited after a long walk around Jumbles reservoir hoping to tuck into some good pub food. Unfortunately it was a very poor meal for both of us. We found the menu online and decided on there because of this, on arrival however we were told they were running a vastly reduced menu and the website wasn't correct..My girlfriends cheese and onion pie was more a mashed potato pie with a bit of cheese. There was also a dead fly in her chips. When we asked the waiter if he could swap them for us, he sighed and took her plate without saying anything. My burger was almost laughable; 2 tiny dry and overcooked burgers on an oversized bun. I passed my feelings to the manager (I think?) on clearing our table and she said she would pass the comments on to the chef but that's all I heard about the matter. On the positive side, she was very good at her job, just a shame the food was so poor. I imagine with the food that was served up and the menu reduction it may be a case of trying to cut costs and make back the deficit they've lost in the year which is kind of understandable but for the prices they're charging, they should be serving up much better quality. We won't be visiting again.

Their Sunday roasts are definitely the best value for money anywhere in Bolton, the yorkies are to die for! My favourite thing about this place is their ever changing special board, there is always something to tantalise the taste buds! This isn't just your normal pub. The staff are brilliant and clearly care about what they are doing, and the food is really a step above. It just keeps getting better! Well done, King Bill Team!

Not amazing from the King Bill. My sunday roast was average, very stingey with the gravy resulting in a very dry meal and the roasties were nowhere near roasted enough. There was no stuffing or pigs in blankets available included in the trimmings - nor as additional sides. I felt as if a toby carvery is a better option for Sunday dinner in better in every way shape or form. My partners steak pie was very nice however her roasties again were barely roasted and the pie was a measley slice. I would recommend the brownie with ice cream for pudding - this was the only consolation. The brownie was a strong 9/10.

Visited this pub with the missus as a treat, cause I’m good like that. Everything from the staff to the food was amazing, whole heartedly some of the best customer service I have received in any establishment. The staff are an absolutely lovely bunch, great manners and amazing service. They are more than friendly and approachable, they’ll happily lend an ear to any questions you might have. The food is another excellent point about this establishment, amazing food and really quick service from ordering to getting the food on the table. The quality is a really strong point of this pub and it definitely shows in the food. Gordon Ramsey wouldn’t have a bad thing to say and I’d bet he’d take the whole fam out here. The prices are more than reasonable for the quality, service and homely nature of this pub. If it’s you’re first time going here I’d highly recommend trying their selection of cocktails. Overall I have not a single bad thing to say and I’d be more than happy to come here again, for any reason. If it’s food, drink or the social circle of this pub I’d happily come back.

Called in for lunch as we hadn’t been there for some time. It was after 1:00 and so wasn’t very busy, we were welcomed by a very friendly girl behind the bar who cleared a recently vacated table by the window for us, unfortunately the view wasn’t brilliant as just outside was a car with a ‘green’ roof, not paint algae ! I ordered a starter, my wife declined, but it took about 45 minutes for the starter to arrive, the server did apologise for the delay. After finishing the starter and another wait, not as long, the main courses arrived. I had chicken stroganoff, which was very tasty, had plenty of chicken and mushrooms with a tasty sauce, that wasn’t too think as can often be the case. My wife had the roast but she thought it had been kept warm for awhile as the carrots were dry, the roast potatoes reheated and the gravy a bit thick with some lumps in it, she was going to order the stroganoff- she should have. The place had been refurbished, I didn’t notice but my wife did. My meal was enjoyable but just too to arrive, if I had been at work and not on holiday that day I would have walked out. Staff very friendly, food good but speed of service needs improvement !

Visited New Year's Day,. table booked, but not ready when we arrived, we were taken to a table , which had peanuts on and one chair missing , it was also close to the front door so we asked to be repositioned. We were left stood in the middle of the restaurant whilst this was authorized, eventually we decided to move to the bar area and I asked the waitress to let me know when the table was ready, shortly after we were taken to a table, no cutlery no menus etc.The waiting time in between starters and main was around an hour, we ordered drinks at the start of our main course, which took an eternity to arrive, 3 cokes and a glass of wine !! I told the young waitress to inform the management of how disappointed we were with the slow service of both food and drinks,, she came back with a message from the management ! Saying that the last round would not be on the bill. I was shocked that the management could not come over to us. A personal apology stands for far more than a bar reduction. So sadly our meal out was not a pleasant or welcoming experience.

I recently visited the king William for tea with my family! It was honestly the worst experience I’ve had ever!!! As soon as we arrived, we got taken over to a dirty table with someone else’s empty glasses, peanuts, and dirty tissues left and one chair missing. This table was also located by the entrance so we asked if we could sit elsewhere and the waitress wasn’t too pleased but moved us. We then ordered our meals! Once our starters arrived none of us were too impressed with the food, we then waited one hour for our starter plates to be removed!! We then waited to try get served for drinks as it seemed head chef, manager and every single member of staff in the place was stood chatting at the bar! We had to ask twice for the drinks to be served.. we complained to the young waitress and her manager sent her back over to knock some money off but you would’ve thought the manager should’ve come over herself! Not to mention there was us and just two other tables there, it wasn’t busy, staff were young and clearly undertrained, no one using any common sense, and staff in kitchen in tracksuits! I wouldn’t waste my time going back, it was more than disappointing!

We had proper steak pie with short crust pastry 3 lovely fresh veg and chips but you can choose other potatoes and the size of this meal. For us the smaller portion at £7.25 was perfect. A pint of Peroni costs £4.70 and a Decaf latte is £2.60 and we have to say that Ed served us well, thank you! There is also entertainment once a month so definitely worth a visit and special days for curries, roasts, daily specials and children's menu.

Loved the food but the wait of about an hour before it arrives has really put me off visiting again!

We love it in the KW but for some reason they have started putting pepper on the potatoes. I don't like pepper so please let customers put their own on.

Table was booked for 5 people which included a toddler, we were seated at a raised (fairly high up) bar style table. We weren’t told about this at booking. We’d normally bring our 80+ yr old grandparents too but as a one off we luckily didn’t today. We were concerned about our toddler falling off the high bench but when we asked if there was absolutely anyway we could be re-seated at a normal table it was a flat out no, not possible too busy. That’s fair enough but at least give us that option prior to booking.

We found this pub through my weekly walking group and so I decided to try it with my husband. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. We have since eaten here a few times and always gone for pub classics. The food is very good and portion sizes are good. You can order half portions too which is good if you want a lighter meal.

Great find on tripadvisors advice. #2 in area for food and we weren’t disappointed. Great service from all staff even though that were dealing with a large party. Had time to accommodate us two workers. Drinks cool and poured correctly. Menu explained and advice given. Fiery Chicken strips made my mate even cry they were that good .

Visited on a quiet afternoon last week. Helped ourselves to a table and were soon after seen to for a food and drinks order. Really good menu loads of variety to chose from, there really is something to suit everyone. Food took a long time considering how empty it was (we were the only table in there) however when it came it was very nice and portion sizes were extremely generous. Reasonably priced as well. Will definitely return as there’s lots of things I want to try on the menu.

Went here with family members on Sunday as we had been here before and had lovely meals so opted for the Sunday lunch I had beef and the hubby had the turkey son had rump steak and 1 kids meal for our nephew, there was nothing to complain about the veg was cooked perfect and overall ok but the only reason I wouldn't go back was the spoiler of proccesed beef and turkey like the stuff that you would put on a sandwich, why not roast a lovely beef joint turkey crown instead of that rubbish your chef can obviously cook she must feel upset having to serve that

We stopped off here for some food after a spa day at last drop. Great find, the country pub is beautifully decorated, the food was delicious and reasonably priced(Iveadded pictures, sorry about the half waten plate :) ).. We ordered the calamari starter and halloumi bites, the greek burger and enchilada, all was perfect and tastey. The service was great from start to finish. They have a great outdoor area and dogs have a designated area which is fab! We will definitely be back.

Went for the first time in a while and went for the two course. Not bad value I have to say but the starters really were poor. Pate was sliced Toast with sliced Pate over the top. Amateur and underwhelming. Saving grace was the price I suppose.

Ordered a roast dinner and a chilli. The roast meat was turkey - it tasted like rubber. I feel it was a frozen joint due to it being perfectly round and completely tastless. The chilli was warm in some places and cold in others which suggested it had been microwaved - obviously not a good microwaved.

We went for a couple of drinks and sat outside by the recently renovated beer garden/terrace. It's lovely outside in the sun - the decking is a real suntrap and a great spot to stop and have a pint in the nice weather!

We have been eating here for many years and it was always a favourite with the family until lately. We booked a table for 6.30 and arrived on time, however our table wasn’t ready. No problem we ordered our drinks at the bar. 20 mins later we were seated and knowing the menu tried to order. Unfortunately there was no steak pies or any other pies, much to my son’s disappointment. No beef for the Sunday roast oh and no roast potatoes either. Ok then, our party of five chose from the remainder of the menu. At 8 pm, having hangry teenagers pleading to leave and go through any drive through, I approached the bar to enquire when should we expect our meals to arrive. No one had been to inform us of why there was a delay, the restaurant had practically emptied. The response “oh, I’ll go ask” no apology. After about another 20 mins our food finally arrived. The food was awful, I’d ordered fish and chips but the fish was burnt, there was nothing on my plate that had any taste. All the others at the table were equally disappointed, bland and tasteless food. Certainly not worth the wait or the money. Collectively, we decided that we’d never go back, ever.

7 of us turned up after a walk,,first time visit to the area (we live Sale & Altrincham) area. The young staff were very welcoming and friendly. The beers were nice too. The food was lovely and fresh with plenty of it, Unfortunately their card machine had a glitch so a couple of us had to go to the nearest hole in the wall for cash only to find out on our return the machine decided to work again. These things happen and to be fair the management gave us complimentary drinks for our inconvenience.....So,, overall a really nice dining experience. Well done.

Saturday at 5pm we visited the King William. I ordered the chefs special (Sea Bream)at a cost of £15.95. I was really disappointed. the portion of fish was so small for the price of the meal and the potato mash and peas were nothing special , bland with skins left on all very tasteless. will not be ordering off the special board again. main menu usually very good though.

We have been here a few times with our 2 young children. The staff are fabulous and the food is always excellent. We went yesterday as a table of 7 and once again the food was excellent and the staff were wonderful. Being a Sunday afternoon it was busier but the service was still the same standard. We love it here. Lovely views too. Highly recommend the steak pie!

Took over an hour to get food out on a Sunday evening meanwhile the chef was on her phone band chatting in the bar, one meal was cremated, veg jambalaya was bland. Whilst I realise it's marketed as a fresh food pub it shouldn't take an hour to get out a few pies , a stir fry and a piece of gammon and the standard was average at best

We were on our way home from Preston and trying to think of a good chippy in Blackburn but sadly we realised all the good ones were no longer open. We came across Cherry Tree chippy but wondered if it would be ok as it’s a Chinese take away ( not that we’re averse to a Chinese) . We ordered steak pud ( Hollands) chips, large mushy peas and large gravy. Theirs plenty of chips for 2 in a portion of chips. It was absolutely delicious and hot even though we were several miles from home. Took a menu and we will certainly be back. Staff really pleasant and quick service.

First time trying the food here and was not disappointed. Had the 2 course Sunday lunch. Pork was a large chunk, excellent variety of trimmings, quality Yorkshire mash and roast potatoes. I'm glad I was hungry else I wouldn't have finished. Followed up with stick toffee pudding. Again a large portion but was very light, clearly made with dates and lashings of custard. Beer was fine but the ales rotate so sometimes difficult to keep a beer you like on repeat visits.
