Booked for the Sunday roast tonight, the service was great and the food was wonderful! I'm so pleased we finally tried it and we'll certainly be back.

Don't normally go out for meals,but have been twice now at the craven Heifer and can't fault it, lovely staff and great food.

We really enjoy coming here for food and/or drinks; the bar staff are always really friendly and welcoming!! The food is also excellent, we love the variety that the specials give, and the portions are also great! Highly recommended from a regular visitor ever since moving to the area over 8 years ago

Friendly pub and great food. Good value for money leaving you full and satisfied. Staff are friendly and patient and even on busy match days they try their best to help you. Highly recommend you go in and have a look.

Popped in here for a drink, and decided to get some food to snack on. The service was great, the food was great and a good price. The weather was nice so we sat outside. I can recommend the Dirty Fries and the onion rings, they were great. The dog had a pint of water in a plastic glass lol. (as I didn't have any cash on me for the dog bowl deposit). The rest of the food also looked good, so we will be going back again at some point. Well worth a visit.

Being local to us we visit quite often both for drinks and food, the food has always been very good and value for money. We dined twice through out December and I have to say the food was fabulous, the blade of beef from the specials menu was as good as you will find anywhere including high level restaurants. Well done team

Called today a wet Tuesday for lunch. Lovely young lady served us. Great menu and specials board. Food freshly made and tasty We had chicken fajita, chilli chips and a Brie and cranberry sandwich. Highly recommend.

What a nice pub, I thought the dining area particularly lovely, very tasteful and modern. I can also recommend the food, I had the fish and chips with garden peas and it was lovely. My friend had the steak wrap off the special menu and absolutely loved it. Vety reasonably priced, I definitely recommend it.

Grest food and good service. The dining room in particular looked lovely. I had fish and chips and the chips were particular good. My friend had steak fajitas from the specials which he said was very tasty.

Super good pub local and homely

Nice interior and outside seating area too. Young staff, could of had better matters and smile when serving customers. Sat outside in the sun. Ordered the caesar salad at £16! Was nice, a little too much sauce for me and needed more croutons. Expensive for what it was. Ordered 2 ciders which cost £12! Definitely felt like an expensive couple of hours out.

We went for lunch with family , lovely afternoon in beer garden. Grandchildren enjoyed their day

Pretty poor in every way. Bread roll with the soup was like a rock, literally. Very odd chicken satay, more like a seekh kebab. And the Suet pudding, well, I've never had suet over an inch thick and the filling had zero gravy. Our concerns fell on deaf ears, shame, but won't be back.

The place is nice and clean. The staff were lovely. I had a fish and chips and was fairly disappointed with it as the fish was tasteless and the batter was soggy and some of the proper chips it came with weren’t cooked through. The other two dishes - duck (from specials) and a salmon were lovely though. The roast dinner looked really good so I would probably try that next time.

Myself and 2 friends visited Saturday 13th January 2024. We hadn't booked a table. On approach the car park was quite full and I thought that we may have to venture elsewhere. Inside, thankfully a couple of tables were available. The restaurant has a lovely homely feel. We were approached by Jodie, who was incredibly polite and helpful. We ordered drinks and in no time they arrived. We were informed about the Special's that were on offer and were given adequate time to look at the menu's. I ordered the Steak, Mushroom and Ale Pie. I was a bit apprehensive to be honest, as I don't really like the Ale factor 'Pie Wise'. The others ordered the hanging chicken kebab like dish and Gammon all with homemade chips. After a short wait our meals arrived. Everyone enjoyed thoroughly. The pie was served in a lovely thick gravy, no ale taste whatsoever. Accompanied by freshly cooked vegetables. The generously sized Gammon was served with 2 Eggs. The Chicken Kebab dish was served on a hanging skewer and looked delicious.

Went here for refreshments after my mother-in-laws funeral. Had very little notice but everything was excellent, the advice they gave us was very helpful when we went to enquire and the room was a perfect size for our needs , you could probably fit about 40-50 in easily. The selection of Buffets was wide ranging for all budgets and excellent value. The food was top quality and plentiful and hot drinks available if required. The bar service was efficient and friendly, cannot recommend enough, will definitely be back to sample more of their menu.

Mu sister booked us to go here for my birthday meal with my husband. Lovely member of staff looked after us sorry I didn't get her name but she was lovely and polite and poured a perfect pint of guiness. Husband had the heifer burger, which he said was lovely and juicy, I had the steak stroganoff, which was absolutely divine. Shared a side of onion rings. Then we had dessert their cheesecake is to die for!!!! My only criticism is that the mains were a little on the small side had I have known this we would have ordered starters as well with no issue. The only reason we didn't order starters is because I usually can't eat 3 courses, and I certainly needed space for dessert after seeing the cheesecake when I walked in.

For me the price of the drinks is really expensive, especially for cocktails and shots. Charging a full drink for a part of a shot is crazy. Also the place is too small! Can't swing a cat inside.

I thought the prices had increased since last here. I orderd a jacket potatoe with chilli and cheese. It was so dry. I had to ask for butter and did not finish it. Dry as a bone. Im sure chilli usualy has a suace.

Good food but was asked if we wanted our mains we wanted to wait 10 minutes after our starter and we were informed that our mains were ready so we had to have them rather than being kept warm

Haven’t been in for a couple of months so went for lunch but were disappointed. My wife had the Cajun chicken burger which she had had many times before but she said the burger was a lot smaller than usual, I had fish and chips but whether the chef forgot about it but the batter wasn’t just crispy it shattered when I tried to cut into it. The chips looked overdone, which they often do but I like them, but were only just warm. Service was good but probably the worst meal we have had there.

I visited the Craven Heifer recently on a busy Saturday night. It was my second visit. I was with my daughter and son in law. We were advised on booking that the Pub would be busy. On arrival it most certainly was busy ,but had a good, friendly atmosphere. We had an excellent meal in a small room adjacent to the main bar and the service was again friendly and good. I look forward to my next visit.

Excellent meals, my portion was huge. Had the ‘special’ chicken curry, Bombay potatoes, rice and Nan. Slightly spicier than I would normally have, but very good, I just couldn’t finish it. I was away from the table when the waitress came to clear and she apparently asked if she should box up to take away (declined), which was nice. My husband and I would definitely return. Maybe the USP is large portions here, if not then slightly less could increase your profits.

Lovely meal but was daunted about the entrance. It's the first time we visited. The dining room is upstairs so we had to walk through the "pub" part. It really needs a revamp and a clean up. I felt very intimidated by locals who oggled as if we had 2 heads! The tables were large, with plenty of room for everything you need. I did feel the music was too loud. Service was very good. But we were astounded that if we ordered pork or chicken instead of roast beef Sunday lunch we had to pay a pound extra for a Yorkshire pudding!! Gasp. Talk about profiteering!

Always come here for a drink and some dinner, the roast is lovely not had a bad meal here. Lovely beer garden too.

Table of 5 arrived for lunch Sunday afternoon. We sat outside not busy . Ordered garlic bread arrived after about 20 mins lush as always ! Then the problems started. We waited over an hour from when the garlic bread was served for our mains . Asked 3 times where are they? First time -i’ll check. 2nd time - Told you’ve had your starter !!! Rude was a garlic bread between 5 people and we told you we were busy and you didn’t book ? We weren’t told they were behind and busy ! Can I just point out we’ve never booked before and we’ve never waited an hour for our mains. 3rd time it’s being plated up ! 10 mins later still no food just as we were going to ask for a refund the food arrived with 3 waitresses absolutely red hot food that had just been cooked with extra chips as an apology .This experience would not stop us from returning but it was frustrating. We’ve never had a bad meal there and the service is usually good .

What a great meal we had on our first visit in over 20+ years. Food we had was excellent and the service first class. Shame we live 275 miles away other wise we would go more often. Was my local for more than 5 years living just across the road. Thanks again.

Been many times for drinks, meals, quiz nights and music. Staff all friendly. Often have different beers on. Food great quality with some nice specials often on. Basic menu doesn’t change often. Can be busy on football nights. Pool table. Charging cables for phones. Toilets always clean, tidy and well stocked. Large car park. Staff always friendly.

Last minute decision to go to the craven tonight. Properly glad we did though. Got the Hanging kebab (Cajun chicken kebab) with proper cheesy chips! Jeez Mon! 🤤

Me and my family went to Craven Heifer today for lunch. Was made to feel welcome, waiting staff were polite and very attentive. Food was delicious and the portion sizes good. I'd recommend this place and will definitely return.

Really good filling meal. Cumberland sausage for Toad in the hole with Mash, veg and gravy. My better half enjoyed her cheese and onion pie and sticky Toffee pudding too! Great service and super friendly staff. Thanks guys! UPDATE: Had fish and chips today and was a really great dinner!

We were served by the tall Girl with the glasses this afternoon from around 13.30 onwards she was very friendly and approachable. I cannot understand how the previous comment could be so nasty we really cannot fault the service keep up the good work you are a asset to the Craven Heifer.

I've been to the Heifer twice in the last 20 years. Once a few weeks ago and again yesterday. I agree with one tiny bit of what Philip Heys wrote, "the taller girl behind the bar sets the tone for the service.". Yes, she does, and it's excellent. Polite, welcoming, friendly, cheerful, she even remembered what food I'd ordered last time despite several weeks having passed and we had a laugh about it. Nice food,, good beer (although I was a bit disappointed there wasn't Wainwright's available) I must have been to a different pub than Phillip. 🙃

This is an updated review. I have previously left a bad review of this pub after a poor experience. Having recently visited on a few occasions I have completely changed my opinion. The staff/management are very friendly and helpful. The food is of a high standard at the right sort of money. It is generally busy at peak times but well enough staffed that there is little waiting time for service. All in all a great place to eat and drink!
