After a lovely walk in the area my partner & I enjoyed a delicious 3 course lunch today (21/11/24) off their 'weekday 12 til 3 Market Menu', which is exceptional value! Truly great food & service & a superb view across the Wayoh reservoir & the hills of Turton. (Aug 2023)3 of us had a late lunch today & the friendly, relaxed but attentive service by Jaz (Jasmine?) combined with the really tasty & well-presented food, combined with the great views of the snowy hills & of the Wayoh reservoir, resulted in a really enjoyable couple of hours in this gem of a country inn. 2 of us back again today (Sun Oct 8th 2023 ) - lovely lunch (unlimited gravy as advertised) - ace service - ace views (ace weather helped!). A great village eatery-pub!

Sunday Lunch was beautiful and filled a hole. The Yorkshire pudding with Sunday roast was the best and felt home made rather than a normal carvery. The fish and chips although a plain dish was beautiful. Please visit and support this last pub in the village. But best reserve a table although we were fitted in before the later rush no doubt. thank you

A nice enough pub in Edgworth, Bolton. Plenty of parking at the back of the pub. The best thing about the pub are the views across Entwistle Reservoir. The food was average, I had fish and chips £14.95 and although the fish was long in length it was a bit on the thin side, plus the batter was also a bit thin or light. However, the chips were lovely, thick wedges with their skins on. My friends had Rag pudding £13.95 and both said that they were nice but they've had better. They also had a cheese board £7.50 with was great, 3 different types of cheese which they chose and plenty of biscuits, grapes, celery and chutney.

we have always tried to support the local pubs etc . Having eaten at the other pub where the Chef used to work. so we went as a group of 6 on a thursday evening! first mistake it was quiz night ! very full restaurant but mostly drinkers . Ordered food from the smaller menu . Starters arrived .Halloumi fries very well done ! chicken wings looked like they had been boiled no colour . Chicken terrine no bread . Soup ok . the two chicken wings left and half the halloumi left . main course arrived . Rag pudding pastry not cooked , chips over cooked mushy peas stuck to plate! Chicken parmegani over cooked and chips that shattered when u stuck a fork in ! when the waitress collected the plates still full she never asked if all ok and no we never said anything. On paying the bill we commented that the food wasn’t the best and we were told he has been very busy today. We tried . This was our second time . The first being a monday Chefs day off ! Over cooked gammon egg and chips. And a barman that seemed to spend more time looking at himself in the mirror and on the phone! we were the only diners . shown to a dirty table! Shame

Sadly been disappointed with the Black Bull on our last couple of trips ..Today was no better . Two adult Sunday dinners , one kids Sunday dinner and one kids fish goujons ., The service for our order was very good , waited a while for food but we were fine with that as it was busy ..I did forget however not to order beef which I now remember as being very tough .,Luckily you get EXACTLY the same as a child’s portion except one potato and one tiny piece of cauliflower ! ( at an extra £8.50 on top ) ..Left hungry and although i mentioned it to waitress the reply back was that she would mention it to the chef . This didn’t sort the problem.which was a shame .

Chose this pub to eat after seeing mainly positive reviews on G maps. All the comments were 'great food' and 'friendly, family run', which sounded great. The first thing that hits you as you open the door is the overwhelming smell of damp dog hair. We walked past a bar full of dogs and owners into an empty restaurant area which looked nice but the smell lingered. The menu looked good, seemed above average pub fayre from the descriptions. What we got was at best 'okay'. Chips were nice and had that homemade feel. Kids enjoyed their meals but eldest recognised that the sauce their meal came in was out of a jar. The Cumberland sausage and mash for £14 was the worst - 3 sausages identical to the 2 that came in the kids meal for £6 and some dry, bland, heated-up mash. It didn't deserve the price we paid. The toilets were disgusting. We found a dog hair on the table. At this point I checked the FSA hygiene rating - an appalling 2, "important necessary", and had been marked down on "cleanliness and condition of facilities and building". I realise now that they must have enough dog owning regulars to keep the good reviews flooding in. There's no way any person that cares about hygiene would write a good review of this place.

This place used to be a little gem. It's alway been a bit grubby but you felt this was to do with it being a walkers pub. However, we have been today and I don't know if they have a new chef? But the food was really poor quality. The beef on the Sunday lunch was tough and awful. The cut chips were nowhere near what they used to be. Such a shame as this is in such a great location with a great view. Also the toilets are getting dirtier on every visit. It doesn't cry out hygiene.

The service wasn't very good said they would take our order then didn't so we ordered at the bar. The food when it arrived was very disappointing the fish was awful overcooked and smelt like it was on the turn. Children's meal average. The rag pudding was underwhelming. The hand cut chips were overdone but soggy left most of them. I have been here before and the foods been fine and also well presented and good value . My favourite local pub for great food with well kept ale. Very attentive service from the staff is the proverbial icing on the cake. However, along with many a pub these days, allowing pets inside is not good and becoming an epidemic. Barking dogs indoors is not my idea of enjoyment. hence star loss for atmosphere.

Really positive experience here. Friendly professional staff in this popular village pub. We all had a delicious meal and the GF fish and chips was one of the most satisfying GF meal’s I’ve eaten out in a while. The others had madras and the roast beef finished with dessert of sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake. Everything was tasty, plentiful and hot. This was an extremely busy Sunday with walkers, dogs, families and regulars. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable and we would recommend this pub based on our experience today, 100 per cent. Ate at the Black Bull earlier today (Saturday) at around 3.30 pm. My dad ordered a steak and onion baguette and I ordered the plate cheese pie. 40 minutes later I was told that they had dropped the pie on the floor and it was the last one. Fair enough, accidents happen, so I then chose the tuna melt wrap. 25 more minutes later (now over an hour’s wait) our food was finally served. The tuna melt was disgusting… large chunks of cold cheese merged with tepid tuna sloppy with mayonnaise. Made me feel sick. Dad’s baguette ok but we were told gravy would be served in a separate bowl but they had poured it over the baguette making it all soggy. When I told the waitress pointing at the mound of cold solid cheese on my plate she just smiled and took it away! Will never go back.

This is not a place for vegetarians. We were offered a vegetarian roast option…though they don’t have any meat alternatives, our waitress said this would be comprised of: ‘extra vegetables, a Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese’. When it arrived, the dishes each had 2 small pieces of roast potato, two pieces of carrot and a slice of beet and a small serving of broccoli (along with the cauliflower and Yorkshire pudding). When the bill arrived, we had been charged £4 each for cauliflower cheese on top of £19.50 charge for the few vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. Another person on our table who had the roast chicken dinner paid only £18.50. When we identified the error on the bill, our waitress unfortunately became argumentative. I wouldn’t recommend this pub.
