I am so pleased to see this pub is so busy. The lovely owners Chris and Liz are super friendly as soon as you walk through the door! Along with the lovely team for who nothing is ever too much trouble. I had the chicken Caesar salad with some chips, which was spot on, loads of tasty chicken with anchovies! Lou had the roast beef Sunday dinner, which she thoroughly enjoyed, our friends had cheese pie and rag pudding and said they were both absolutely delicious! Our chocolate Labrador, Dexter, had a doggie dinner and if there had been a pattern on the dish he would have licked that off, so I can only presume he enjoyed it too 😂🐶 All this washed down with a nice couple of pints , all in all a lovely way to finish a Sunday walk around the Wayoh on a Sunday afternoon. I would heartily recommend a visit here for food, drinks etc. thank you Liz, Chris and team

Terrible lunch Was told to try here, wished hadn’t bothered !! Cold , un atmospheric, Ordered the burgers, came with fat dripping on plate , undercooked bacon with white raw fat in it. Didn’t notice at first as they had covered up with cheese and sauce. Chef must have known almost raw in places So shouldn’t have served . Told the waitress who said she would tell chef , but nothing offered. Told manager when paying , again nothing Really disappointing Hope not unwell due to undercooked bacon , but will know where from if we are !!!

A great pub. Met up with family for lunch. Dog friendly (with the option of buying a dinner for your pooch!) New hosts that were welcoming and helpful. Food is excellent value - Nacho's with homemade chilli beef was a filling sharing dish for two for about £11 for example. Some excellent walks in the area too. We travelled from Lancaster and family from Manc and it's a great halfway meeting up venue. Highly recommended.

Went back to enjoy a lovely lunch as we always have here but sadly we were so disappointed. Don't know if the chef or ownership has changed since our last visit but it was not as good as it has always been. I chose the Chicken Brie and Onion Chutney Baguette. After a mixup about the last baguette in the building (why would it be the last baguette at 12 o'clock on a Friday lunch time?) it arrived. The bauguette was burnt (black) on both sides, the chicken was overcooked and consequently very dry and chewy, the brie wasn't melted properly and the chutney was virtually non existant! The accompanying salad was glistening and tasted like it had a bottle of oil poured over it. All was inedible but fair play to them, the cost was knocked off our bill.My husband chose the Steak and Mushroom Pie which he said was OK. Normally when we come here to eat it is so enjoyable with lovely food and a lovely warm atmosphere with roaring open fires making it very cosy. This time was so very different - no open fires and less people eating inside than is usual .We noticed the pictures had been changed , the seating looked very tired and dirty and there was a lot of ingrained dirt on the paintwork I don;t know what has happened but it is such a shame. Maybe it is a one off - let;s hope so.

We discovered this pub about 6 years ago whilst on a walk through the countryside. As a result we revisit at least a few times a year always at lunch and have never had a bad meal or suffered any poor service. Same goes for today's visit. We both had a sandwich each. The brown malted bread was sumptuous and the beef within was tender thick sliced and hot. Together with a bowl of proper home made chips it was purely delicious. Can't wait for next visit and the cost for 2 with drinks was £20! Bargain!

Visited on Sunday teatime. Food was acceptable and reasonably priced. Service was good.It was very busy with what looked like a children’s party. As we like children this gave the place a good atmosphere. However when we got to our reserved table we found that the occupants of all the tables close by had dogs with them. Two of our party commented immediately on the “doggy smell “. As there was no space in the “dog free “ area we had to stay put.I have nothing against dogs but I do believe that they should not be allowed in pubs and restaurants when food is being served. Their behaviour can sometimes be a nuisance and you always get the “doggy smell “ which can put people off their food. This is not the place for you if, like me, you prefer not to have to put up with this.

We were greeted by a lovely man behind the bar who sat us and asked if we needed anything to let him know. The menu had all the pub favourites and I couldn’t decide. I went with the fish and chips in the end. When the food arrived, it all looked amazing and tasted INCREDIBLE. My brothers fish pie was out of this world - I wish I had that! Just so tasty and my mums rag pudding she said ‘is the best she has ever had because it’s proper homemade’. That says it all. My fish was in a thin and crispy batter and proper big chunks of white flaky fish when I cut into it. Big fat homemade chips too. Just ace. We will be returning!

Called in for lunch on Saturday, we both had the wild boar burger off the specials board, it was nice enough but just tasted like an ordinary beef burger. Huge, so not for those with a small appetite, the chunky chips were fine but the salad garnish was drenched with dressing so the lettuce was soggy. . The pub has various different rooms, we went in the back room as it was lighter. Quite unusual for a pub, more of a trendy cafe feel. There was a display of art works for sale on one wall, presumably by a local artist. A popular place for walkers (and their dogs).

We were in the back part of the pub where dogs are allowed - it was done up more like a cafe but had a nice atmosphere and live music. Ordered at the bar which was a difficult process as they kept getting it wrong and when our garlic bread arrived it was incorrect. Fish and chips were delicious, nice homemade chips. For years my partner and I have come to this establishment to meet up with the bowlers he plays Crown Green Bowls with during the year. The atmosphere is always pleasant. The food excellent and staff service is good. They have a dog friendly policy in one part of the pub/restaurant away from the main dining area. In summer it is lovely to sit out in the beer garden. There are plenty of car spaces in the car park at the back of the pub, but because it is so popular sometimes you might not get a table. I would advise having a reservation made so as not to be disappointed.I am unsure about some of the questions this survey has asked me, so if you have any questions to ask about widened doors for wheelchair users, or lower hand rails I would suggest you make a quick phone call to the pub just to find out what facilities there are for disabled people. we have always entered the pub from the car park area at the back of the outdoor beer seating area.

I have just read a review about the Chetham at Chapeltown written in capital letters it starts BEST PUB IN EDGEWORTH !!! This person either works for the pub or has had the promise of a free pint as it most certainly is no where near the best in fact its one of the worst for food. As for his comment about having more up market interea than other local pubs that is just a joke as the furnishings are more country cafe than up market pub. Ok the pub is very dog friendly but that is about the only good thing about it apart from the land lady & hubby Adam who are both very charming people and they do keep a good pint but come on lets tell it like it is.

Young girl behind the bar couldn’t take orders of starters and mains, flapping when she realised she had to do 2 orders for two tables at the same time.If you can’t work a bar or til then you shouldn’t be there! There were 6 of us altogether 3 of the party had starters pate, soup and garlic mushrooms came out quickly and were good. The mains however extremely disappointing the burger on special board was ok but chips were dry and had a funny after taste. I ordered mini steak and onion sandwich no butter as I am lactose intolerant and can’t have dairy, the girl said oh they don’t put butter on it anyway. When it came the steak was really thin one piece on and it looked like frozen sandwich steak you can buy from Iceland. There was loads of onions more than steak. The salad had a dressing on it which I had to ask what was in it and it turned out to have cheese in it so I had to send it back. The calamari was more breadcrumbs/batter to the calamari and the chicken and bacon salad was more bacon than chicken. The whole thing was a massive let down as we have been here before but it’s obviously changed management and staff no one there we recognised. When asked if everything was ok we said no I told the waitress she was apologised and said she would speak to the chef to see if we could have a discount. She cane back and said the chef said this is what a mini steak looks like and it was very dry because I hadn’t had butter on so I explained why I couldn’t have butter and the fact I had to have the salad removed,in my opinion the bread wasn’t fresh and no way was this worth £6.25. We will not be returning again awful experience it maybe very nicely decorated and dog friendly but food is awful and it needs sorting out!

We love going here even though we don’t own a dog (seems compulsory), great selection of drinks and food is excellent, landlady and John(formerly of Brewhouse) very friendly and happy, just need landlord (sorry don’t know his name) to have more personality or smile more( been 4 or 5 times), overall will keep going, lovely area and great for walking, great for couples, family, dog owners. 4out of 5.

Went here with friend for lunch. Haven’t been here for quite a few years so saw some changes. Decor is lovely in the dining room at the back. Food came quickly once we realised you had to order at the bar and staff were attentive but not overpowering. Hade halloumi and peppers starter and cottage pie for main. Good pub food. Will certainly go again.

we decided to call in here one afternoon and work it in with walking the dog. They allow dogs in certain areas and it was ideal. The food was a good price and was lovely. I have since been back a few times and never been dissapointed

Revisited after an 18 month gap to find the place has grown in popularity, the food is good in parts as have visited four times in the past 3 weeks. Rag pudding meal and fish and chips plus the curry were found to be excellent, the pizza not so which should be thin based which makes it not so soggy (sorry). Staff which have an excellent manner need to come around the tables to see if you require anything else (maybe another drink) apart from that, really good pub with tough competition in the village. Thank you!

It is quite a while since I have been here but I have to say it has not disappointed What a lovely place. My friend took me for lunch and the food was divine. All these "designer" places should take a lesson from the Chetham Arms! The staff were friendly, super helpful and a pleasure to talk to. Our complements to the chef were also gratefully received. You can even buy a slice of cake for afternoon tea at home later!!! Fabulous thank you. We will be back

Have been coming here for some time now, and cannot fault the food.Today, however, one waitress had a problem with my son, who failed to say "yes, please or thank you". The waitress knows who she is, and also that she was out of order. Will never come back here.

I visited today with a group of walkers. I had the steak sandwich which came with delicious home made chips. I also had a terrific home made brownie. It is fair to say all of the group were very impressed by the food and great value pricing. Will definitely visit again.

We went on Sunday for lunch - a spur of the moment decision which we definitely did not regret! We were both impressed by the friendly, welcoming atmosphere and found it difficult to choose form the wide choice on the menu. In the end I had the homemade cheese and onion pie which was AMAZING - the shortcrust pastry was not greasy (as it is in some places) and the cheese was tangy and very more-ish. My husband chose the homemade chicken, leek and ham pie and although he is not usually fond of puff pastry he thoroughly enjoyed it.There plenty of chunks of chicken and the sauce was very tasty. Wee could not manage a dessert - all the more reason to return another time, which we certainly will do!

I came here for lunch with a colleague. The food was good value and tasty. I particularly recommend the rag pudding which I had never tried before but my colleague suggested (and I'm glad I did). The service was also friendly and efficient.

This is a great country pub, but within a stone's throw of Bolton and Blackburn. Plenty of car parking and outside space when the weather is nice.Handy for great walks but just as good for an evening trip out.Jaz, Adam, Steve and their team provide exemplary service and the food is always delicious.Highly recommended.

Was introduced to this place just a few days ago (although I now remember visiting a LONG time ago!). The welcome was warm, the staff friendly and the food super. Extra tasty home made cheese and onion pie was great and beer battered halloumi really good. We will be back.

We have visited the Chetham Arms a couple of times now and found the location, decor, staff, value for money and food excellent (especially the proper chips!). However I find being constantly called a 'guy' a little unsettling as I actually have 2 breasts and don't think I look particularly masculine. I am aware this expression is frequently used but for it to be added at the end of every sentence is quite unnecessary. It won't stop me from returning but would prefer not to be called a guy.

Myself and my wife visit the pub for a meal on a regular basis . The food is always superb , with a specials menu in addition to the regular menu . The home made chips are the best I've had anywhere. Prices are very very reasonable compared with other pubs. My only negative comment is the condiment sachets which cheapen the experience and are a pain in the backside to open and ends up all over your fingers

We have dined here several times with friends twice at lunchtime and then once a couple of weeks ago in the evening. Always consistent with the food, good pub grub, locally sourced produce and very reasonable prices. You can order small plates if you have less of an appetite. Draft beer is excellent kept. Friendly staff lovely interior with a small seated area outside.

my partner and i , decided to try this establishment because it had been recommended by a friend of hers at work. Its one of those places thats off the beaton track , so to say , if you know the area , then thats ok !! You go through Edgeworth heading towards the White Horse , then you turn left & follow that road until you come to a very tight turn off to your right called, High Street & follow it for about half a mile & its on your left , be careful or you may drive past it .When u see the pub take the first left & you go down a narrow lane which leads you to the car park & there is plenty of room !!!! We went for an evening meal ( come sunday lunch ) !!!!!!This pub/restaurant is an old & new combination , dont get me wrong its luvly inside , its just a mix of Old & New !!!!We ordered the BEEF Sunday Lunch , & didnt have to wait long for the food to arrive , it was well cooked & very nice , there was plenty of it & the Plates were hot !!!! The Bar Staff were very nice & polite , as you have to order your food at the bar , & the waitress was very attentive also. This establishment is also very popular with people with Dogs, and lots of walkers in the area !!!!! Overall its a great place to have a meal and i think the next time we visit, we will try and call in earlier and try a midday lunch !!!!!!! Oh yes i nearly forgot , we visited on Sunday 30th July 2017 around 7pm..

We recently visited the Chetham Arms as we had been told that it was a must. I have to say from the moment we stepped out of the car i had a good feeling as immediately it looks like a proper country pub. On entering we could see that it was busy and the atmosphere felt lovely. We went to the bar to get drinks where i have to say the selection of beers was very good.We then walked round to the comfy seating area where it was busy with people eating. We ordered our food from what is a pleasing simple menu that does not have too many dishes on it. we could see from the other diners that the portions looked of a good size and based on the prices you could see it was extremely reasonable. Our food came and we were not disappointed. I had pork fillet from the specials board and this did not disappoint. This in my opinion is a little gem of a pub that has proper home cooked food that was delicious. To mention the staff and service that we received i can honestly say that this was as good as anywhere i have been previously. The staff simply cant do enough for you and anybody wanting to enjoy a cosy pub with great food and drink should make the effort to visit here.

Booked at very short notice (same day) for a family table of 20 and they coped brilliantly. The service was fantastic and the large food order was excellent. No missing items, no disappointing food. All in all 11/10. Well done Craven Heifer.

Absolutely terrible , booked 3 days in advance for lunch needed have bothered arrived on time no one else in the establishment! To us says a lot going with instinct we should have left , however we gave it the benefit of the doubt..2 minutes later 2 other people arrived . We sat nearby the window to savour the views bear in mind it’s still “winter” and unbelievably so inside as we sat in our overcoats as it was as much freezing inside as it was out ! The waitress came took our orders for drinks very pleasant girl , very efficient but from then on went further downhill after drinks were served she took our food orders my other half ordered the hake dish , myself just the fish & chip offer as no other meal appealed ..one hour later no sign of food ..no apologies for delay etc again we were contemplating asking for the bill for just the drinks ,by this time 3 other patrons had arrived ordered drinks & food which were delivered well before ours ! 1 hour & 5 minutes ours arrived ..the hake was served supposedly on “ crushed roast potatoes “ with buttered beans and creamy tomato sauce ..I wished at this point I had taken a photo all I can describe it it was a bowl of mush , I myself had the most greasy fish & chips I have ever encountered sadly we both left our meals I have to note not once did ant of the catering or bar staff asked if everything was ok , I think in my opinion they were too embarrassed to sum in all in a nut shell will not be returning .
