The best restaurants serving British food in Hitchin Bearton North Hertfordshire East of England

This is possibly the most welcoming cafe in Hitchin, which is why we return regularly. The staff are great, the food is lovely (such a selection) and the price is not typical of Hitchin pretentiousness! Highly recommended.

Asked server if I could swap the rice for chips, was told by her I wanted extra chips, explained 3 times then she called another server over and said I wanted a curry I said I didn’t want chips and same again, cancelled order and was asked if I wanted the curry still very poor service won’t be eating here again

We visited this pub today after having not been for around 4+ years. We went specifically for the roast Sunday dinner. I noticed the portions have reduced significantly since I last visited. You used to get so much. This time we went for the 3 meat roast. We got a chicken leg, but then a small slice of beef and a small slice of pork, enough to make a sandwich with. It was disappointing. Also very few roasties. The veg wasn’t cooked that well. The Eton Mess was disappointing as it was a Sundae with hardly any meringue in it. I’ve been told a Toby Carvery is far better for your money so might try that. The waitresses were amazing here though. Young girls , very polite.

Good quality food, freshly cooked and delivered on time.

My favourite pub in Hitchin, excellent atmosphere, fantastic staff & a good mix of clientele make this one of the best places I know to sit down with a pint

This use to be my partner and I favourite pub and restaurant but since it’s changed hands it’s really gone downhill. Some Staff drinking alcohol on the side of the bar or in the garden on shift. ‘Can’t be bothered’ attitude It really has gone downhill. No atmosphere anymore. It’s very sad. The only thing that’s alright is the pizza.
