The best restaurants in United Kingdom serving Brasserie food

Georgia was very friendly and very helpful when making our booking with our dog. All the staff were excellent, but the young gentleman with blonde hair was exceptional. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to get his name, he was very knowledgable and advised us on the menu with any questions we had. Nothing was too much trouble for him, and he made our visit very enjoyable without being too much. We will definitely recommend this restaurant.

Although closed for the season, the Galleon Bistro reopened for just the one night of Hogmanay, with a special 6-course menu. The food on offer was good, but not ‘really special’. The main negative was that the portion sizes were simply too large, given that the food was quite rich, so we managed only one bottle of wine. This all meant that we left feeling a bit bloated and not quite sure if we could survive the ceilidh down the street! The meat eaters began with an amuse-bouche of grilled breaded brie, smoked fish pate and pigs in blanket, with a huge slice of chicken-liver parfait as starter, a celeriac soup ‘entremet’, a delicious main course of dry-aged beef with various sides, and a rich chocolate mousse infused with Baileys as dessert. All followed by petit fours of tablet, chocolate fudge and shortbread rounds, with tea and coffee. The Galleon also provided a vegetarian alternative with the same soup, dessert and petit fours, but a different starter, (pasta) main course and amuse-bouche. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting and the price, though steep, was reasonable. However, the invitation to add on extra at one’s discretion for service is really unwarranted for a small, family-run establishment and felt to us antiquated and even a bit embarrassing.

OMG! Such delicious food! Lovingly made, great atmosphere, very short wait for the food! A must eatery to visit as and when in Wakefield. Very reasonably priced also!

A lovely little quirky restaurant with only a few covers BUT, everything is extremely hot!!! On interrogating the owner about this, after a chicken biryani that nearly resulted in the the local fire service being called to extinguish the heat, he admitted all of the chicken is initially marinated in a Bombaylicious sauce before being cooked in any chosen dish! Ambience, setting and general experience all very good but, will not be returning unless we manage to perfect the art of fire-eating first!!

We went for the first time on Saturday and the food was excellent and the host very pleasant and informative. We are looking forward to returning soon.

I was craving for a good chicken burger. I got one last night and it was spot on on every level. It was one delicious burger. Absolutely going back for more. I think this place is a hidden gem.

Sadly it's not on my list to recommend to others anymore and I won't be rushing back, as I am very worried about the hygiene. We went as a group and I was able to see into the kitchen. I was amazed by how much was coming out of such a little space until I noticed the Spoons, at the plating up section was a metal pot with a handful of spoons in, the chef would take one out dripping wet, stir whatever he had just been handed, taste it and then use the same spoon un washed to serve out the food, he would then lick it clean, put it back in the pot, and then the process would repeat, once I noticed I couldn't help but see it happening throughout the night, every dish got one of 3 or 4 spoons from that pot, used to stir taste serve and then licked clean. hopefully the chef was only a stand in and this isn't normal for them. it didn't help the service was shocking which meant we had ages to wait, the rest of the group gave up with the desserts as we had been sat for half an hour without anyone coming back, I was quite glad as I'm sure that would have been licked as well. It didn't help the table behind were monopolising the staff keeping them talking for ages each time they came to their table.

I brought my Godmother here for Afternoon Tea in August 2024 as a random choise. I loved the quality and service so much, I took my brother and his fiancé for the same this time. We also invited my best friend. This time Kante was our server. I cannot praise him and the team enough! Highly recommend this place, absolute treat! Thank you.

I had heard great things about this place. Unfortunately it did not deliver, staff not very attentive, could not pre order online (tried phoning and messaging to pre order) to no avail. Only got asked if we wanted a drink after 15minutes of being sat down (wasn't busy at this time either) food arrived I had the brisket meal (chips,A&H coleslaw & jalapeño crisies were very nice thank you, but the brisket not so much was very dry I put the bbq sauce and coleslaw on to make it palatable. Would not recommend!

Had brilliant birthday meal at Smoke & Ice Retford. Delicious food great atmosphere staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly if they tried. All the staff were great at helping my mum who is a wheelchair user and took time explain menu and sauces ect. Thanks again for the happy birthday song all 10 of us really enjoyed it and would definitely be back. 🥳🥳🥳🥳

An incredible gem in Tooting Market! They serve the best tacos and Argentine steak that will absolutely delight your taste buds. And the chocolate pot dessert is simply heavenly—it's a shame I didn’t snap a photo! I couldn’t love this place more. The staff are fantastic, adding to an unforgettable dining experience.
