Attended a networking event with lunch (three tapas dishes each) - the food was awesome and great value. The owner is friendly, engaging and obviously passionate about good food. The staff were all great too.

My review is to express my utmost satisfaction and to commend the exceptional dining experience I recently had at Gem 42 restaurant in Newport. I have been fortunate enough to dine at several Michelin-starred restaurants across the country. However, my experience at Gem 42 was truly outstanding, from the moment I walked through the door, I was genuinely impressed by the warm and cordial welcome extended to me by the staff. Their professionalism and attentiveness throughout the evening enhanced every aspect of the dining experience. What truly set Gem 42 apart was the exceptional quality of their food, which seamlessly combined locally sourced produce with an enticing Italian twist. Each dish was meticulously prepared and presented, demonstrating the chef's dedication to culinary perfection. The exquisite flavours and creative combinations showcased the immense talent and skill of the kitchen team. Best cafe/restaurant in newport by far👌 Family run business, Staff are super friendly & have become like family 😜 Kid friendly. Lots of seating & clean environment! Food portions are massive & always tasty, FRESH & filling 🍽🥤 I would highly recommend to everyone.

Visited for the first time yesterday - an absolutely lovely place! We were a party of 10. All the food we had was fresh and delicious and puddings and coffee were superb too. Great, cosy atmosphere, welcoming to kids and and a lovely service! Will definitely go again.

Disappointed Insta pics look a lot better than in the flesh … food was average , menus were dirty , plates and cutlery felt old … sauces were cheap or old … overall it could be very good food if they brushed up on allot of things would I return … not for a while

Had a fantastic stay at Hotel Mercure Newport! The cleanliness was top-notch, and the food was absolutely amazing. Huge cheers to the chefs for their excellent work! Highly recommend this hotel for a great experience.

I had previously booked a table for a group of 25 people for a leaving party. Arrived there 15mins ahead of booked time to find the building in darkness and a sign saying it was closed due to unforseen circumstances. I had no call, despite taking all contact detail at the time of booking. Sign left in the door by environmental health stated a NUMBER of things about RATS, in and around the food prep areas, food, drinks and their (rat) droppings. Diabolical customer services. Never mind cleanliness. Absolutely disgusting & then to find out the reasons are RATS! In their kitchen, cellar, bar, on their food and cooking utensils etc.
