The best restaurants in Montgomery Powys Mid Wales

We left with a mixed experience of the Checkers after our stay in January. Highlight was the tasting menu. Fantastic courses each with a delightful blend and mix of flavours. Credit must be given to chef Andrew for his expertise and presentation style. Excellent too at £85. You will have to go far to find a tasting menu of similar quality and value. The service and hospitality though was solemn and sedate. Greetings on arrival were somewhat formal with little conversation and this was the approach to service throughout our evening and overnight stay. Each course being served without the passion they deserved, being functionally presented. We never saw Andrew either and he didn’t come out to chat to his guests. The overnight accommodation was very well presented with good facilities, although quite cold with the heating going off before we retired for the night. We can’t comment about breakfast as unfortunately we were slightly late after 9:30am due to an urgent family call we had., my partners mother being taken into hospital. We apologised to Rachel who advised that we were 8 minutes late and the kitchen had closed. There was only ourselves and another couple who stayed over that evening! A very strange way to treat guests who are paying well over £400 for the experience. So go to the Checkers for the excellent Michelin rated cuisine, but not if you expect warm service and hospitality to support the dining experience.

Superb breakfast served with excellent local produce. The cafe was recommended by someone in Newtown, where we had an early morning appointment. It meant travelling a few miles out of our way, but was well worth it. The breakfast set us both up for the day; I didn’t eat again until the evening!

Love the room and the food. Owner was really friendly and local to Montgomery so recommended lots of walks for us during the week

Great food!! What a nice buffet in a wonderful wine shop! Several choices of meats and vegetables with cornbread and rolls! Delicious

Went to find this pub for Sunday lunch, Aug 2021 The pub is no longer operating. Also tried The Dragon in Montgomery which was only serving food to residents at present.

12 of the family had the best Sunday lunch! The food was brilliant , just like a home cooked Sunday lunch. Service was excellent . Will definitely be back.

Lovely charming building , lovely staff grey food and . Comfortable rooms well worth a stay we will be back Montgomery was a lovely town as well

This woman is not the ideal person to run a business, she ignored me the first time I went in as she was on the phone to a bank, then the next time I came back an hour later she was so flus=stered she spoke to me like I was not wanted in there ...... this is the 4th time I have tried to visit this cafe and she has been rude every time , the post office is dirty and needs a complete re-fit - awful and I would never go back

Visited this chip shop today as I pasted it earlier and fancied some traditional chip shop chips However I found myself walking into what could only be described as a a rats den Cash only in 2024 (tax avoidance) The chips where tasteless and green The sausage was under the heat lamp to long and tasted like cleaning products I would not recommend this place to anyone
