The best restaurants in Cookley Wyre Forest West Midlands

Fantastic pub, lovely staff. The Atmosphere here was lovely. A dog friendly pub, which you don't see very often. 3 dogs came up to sit next to me, which I thought was lovely. All in all, Awesome, for a proper pub in the heart of Worcestershire. You have to visit it That's why I'm proud of being, as they say a Shropshire lad, well I'm from Far Forest which is on the boundary line that goes in to Shropshire but I'm a Worcestershire lad, born and bred. Down in the area for a few days and the locals said it was well worth a visit so we walked up from Wolverley along the canal. When we arrived (and it was random Monday) we were surprised how busy it was. Ordered the noted cobs and salad at a fiver each( less if you don't have salad) and we were not disappointed. The meats were plentiful and lovely. Don't do pub meals and it's cash only. Not surprised it was popular.

My wife and I visited the Island Pool for a meal. It was quite busy when we arrived, the member of staff that greeted me asked if we had a reservation, I said no but can you find us a quiet corner, the lady ignored my request, we were shown to a table, I went to the bar to order drinks, I asked for a drink for my wife and a pint of bitter for my self, she asked me which bitter I wanted, I said the most popular, she looked at me and pointed to the pumps, her attitude all the time I was at the bar was less than friendly. I asked to speak with the manager but was informed she was ONE of the managers. At this point I called my wife and we left. I was unable to understand why, when we went for a pleasant meal we were met with such rudeness. I would suggest she move from a customer facing job. We went a few miles down the road and enjoyed a lovely meal at The Park Gate, we were greeted with a smile and a welcome.

We have previously had excellent service whenever we visited. The staff are truly exceptional. We shall not return however, today whilst eating the normally delicious food, my 9 year old girl found a dead maggot in it. I am sure it was an oversight and not indicative of there usual high standards of hygiene. Unfortunately, despite being regular visitors we will not return.

Ordered food for 3 adults, after paying through the app as we sat outside, we were told by a member of staff that half of the things we ordered weren’t available and then 5 minutes after were also told that there would be a 30 minute wait because of a ‘blip’ in the kitchen. We in fact ended up waiting 50 minutes for our food and weren’t given any cutlery. I went inside to ask for some cutlery and sauces and a member of staff ‘barked’ at me that I needed to get my own cutlery and sauces. As for the missing items, we weren’t offered a refund, instead were told that the chef had given us a handful of chips extra. Wouldn’t recommend to anybody and definitely won’t visit again.
