Good place for lunch whilst walking the Cotswold Way and good to support this project. They were only serving the light bites menu rather than the full lunch menu which was a bit disappointing, and the coffee machine was broken. Good value for money.

Great Christmas lunch 2024, perfect. We have eaten at the old rectory on several occasions and we are never disappointed. The intimacy of the rooms may not suit everyone but service, food and wine are always excellent. Highly recommended. Diane and Bob Cirencester.

It’s nowhere to be seen today so I have made a trip for no reason.

Lovely spot for lunch. The ambience was pleasant, not too noisy, no intrusive music. The menu was not so long that you know everything comes from the freezer/microwave. The staff were very young but efficient, pleasant and very helpful. When I said that my elderly mother and I would share a main they brought it on two plates and offered to do something off-menu if that was what she wanted. My husband loved his liver special.

My wife and called in for a spot of lunch on Friday the 11th April. Haven’t been here since the last tenants left a few months ago and I believe that the place is now under temporary management. This pub was always good, but our experience on Friday was very disappointing. The weather was lovely and we expected the pub to be busy, it was really quiet. Only four other people sitting outside. We ordered a club sandwich at £15 and some chips for £5.50. We had a pint of a lager and a medium white wine. £38 !!! I queried the cost and was told that a 10% service charge had been added, I asked for it to be removed. When the food arrived, it was awful. The club sandwich , was two pieces of dry white bread not toasted, the ingredients were two small pieces of bacon and a few chunks of dried out chicken with some horrible salad. The chips were either over cooked or under done. We weren’t offered any condiments. The two people sitting at the next table also commented on how bad the food was. The place is also now somewhat uncared for. Scruffy unkempt garden, uncut grass and bits of rubbish on the ground. It’s such a shame, as the location is lovely. Won’t be returning and can’t recommend.

We booked early at 7pm on Saturday. It wasn't very busy with not many tables occupied. It was our first visit to The Hungry Horse and we were impressed by the menu options and the reasonable prices. Service was good. However, two of the three meals were ok but the fish and chips was poor. The fish was overcooked and dry. I really should have sent it back. We were then told the bar was shutting at 8pm and we were asked to get any further drink orders in. The reason was apparently trade and staff issues because of the A417 road closures. I had some sympathy for this because managing the pub in this location must be difficult during the A417 construction. However, that was no excuse for the poorly cooked food which we commented on. The website hasn't been updated with changes to opening hours.
