What a fabulous find this place is. Friendly atmosphere, helpful staff and the food is exceptional. And I really do mean exceptional. The pies are actually made on premises and are packed to the brim with meat. None of your puff pastry lids floating on a sea of gravy here. The chateaubriand, cooked to perfection, was the best I've had anywhere. The vegetables were delicious. Stayed in the Desert Orchid room which has a large, very comfortable bed. The pictures tell you everything you need.(Recommended). We'll be coming back again soon, for sure.

Booked a table early Friday evening before going on to a meeting. Very friendly staff and really good choice on the menu and specials board. Both of us chose from the specials board and were not disappointed. Both our meals were very tasty and fresh. I felt a bit guilty as I could not quite finish all of mine, and hoped the chef didn't take it as an insult, but I really was full from such a generous helping. Would highly recommend.

Expensive. Do not assume that items from the bar will be similar prices to other pubs. Check the price of everything you order to avoid nasty surprises. They did not bother to put it through the till at time of ordering -- I left a banknote, and the first that I knew about the price was when they brought the order together with less change than I was reasonably expecting. ============================================== EDIT: I posted the above as a 2-star review. I now see that another reviewer also complained about the prices, mentioning £17.50 for cod and chips (in 2023), and the pub replied to that review with "Hi we are now reopen (June) under new management hopefully we can change your 1 star into 5 stars" as if to imply that the complaint was no longer relevant. In fact the pub's website now says £18 for cod and chips (March 2024), so clearly their complaint is still relevant, so I find the pub's response rather disingenuous. In view of this, I am modifying my own rating to 1-star. I see that they have also added a response referring to their "top chefs" and "local ingredients", neither of which are relevant to the things I actually ordered -- as clearly stated above: "items from the bar". Just to be clear, my own visit was in 2024, not earlier.

Booked table of 4 on their steak deal at £55 for two which included starters and deserts off the main menu. Had prawn cocktail, soup, and ribs and were all excellent. Rump steak cooked to your taste served with veg and dauphinase potatoes plus chips. We all had deserts which were home cooked and excellent. Bottle of white wine was £25, Guinness £6 a pint so not bad prices. Portion sizes were excellent and service really good. Pub has nice welcoming feel to it. Would recommend. We were surprised that the pub wasn't busier on a Saturday night with such a good offer on. I wish them every success as they deserve to do well. I would say they must have a good chef.

Extremely friendly, we received a very warm welcome. Parking was free for our motorhome, and the food was excellent. The best fish and chips ever, and at a good price. Note the cutlery in proportion to the fish. There are many draft beers to try. We were completely satisfied, and the prices are right!

What a wonderful pub, great food, beers and staff. So friendly and welcoming. Could not do more for us. And even put the rugby six nations on. Some guests were vegan and the menu choice was fab. Vegan roasts were delicious and the sundae was genius. Can not recommend enough. We were a party of 9 and every person enjoyed muchly!
