A welcome change at this ancient Shepherd Neame pub (circa 1642) to find that the owners are investing in both the fabric of the building such as a new roof and the internal decor plus furnishings. The result is a delightfully spacious and attractive facility with ample parking at the rear. My party of 8 was well accommodated in the main restaurant area, the service was efficient and helpful with the food generally being given a good rating. The starter of prawns and langoustine in a marie rose sauce (£10.95) with buttered brown bread proved very popular as did the Battered Haddock and new potatoes (£16.95) for the main. Though it did seem very strange to charge an additional £1.00 for a few frozen peas? Better to have the real deal of proper mushy peas says this Yorkshireman. Other main to highlight was the grilled Salmon fillet and hollandaise (£21.50) as those opting for the Seafood Linguine (£23.00) found the fish content and flavour somewhat overwhelming. A bottle of average Picpoul (£31.00) was rated good value as were the pints of the iconic Master Brew (£4.75). With service at a now modest 10%, the overall bill was £393.43 or just under £50pp so well worth another visit.

First visit and will definitely be back. Booked online and had a call to say unable to serve normal Sunday roast as problem in kitchen and did we still want to go. So pleased we did. We both ordered the venison bourguignon, absolutely fabulous and huge portion. Mrs D not easily pleased but on this occasion expectations exceeded. Thankfully we shared a portion of the panattone bread and butter pudding as it would have been impossible to eat a whole one! Great food, great service, lovely staff. Give it a try.

This is a venue that could not be better in my opinion. A bright and airy building with outside seating also available. A clear and uncluttered ordering process with a great range of options. The soup was delicious with a plentiful and substantial portion. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and helpful. It makes all the difference to know it really matters to the catering team that customers have a good experience. A huge thanks to all involved!
