We came out of Ightam Mote hungry and had seen the Plough from the road. I was ready for a bowl of soup or decent ploughman’s. I decided to change from my old walking boots and put my trainers on not knowing that the pub is country only by geography and the interior high end more placed in a city high street. The welcome was warm, only one man drinking at the bar and 4 diners around the corner. No smoky log fire or horse bridles here but faux velvet chairs and cocktails utensils at the ready. We felt under dressed and out of place in walking gear but were hungry so sat down and looked at the menu. The prices were more than we wanted to pay. The chiploata was just a chipolata with nothing much else for £8.50 I was told. Hubby settled for a steak sandwich with small fries and I settled on cauliflower tempura for £13. Certainly not what we had in mind but we rolled with it and it did deliver with a pint and half of Brixton ale. This light lunch left our wallet £41 lighter with £5 discretionary service charge and reminded me to never again enter a pub, cafe or restaurant without a) looking at Tripadvisor beforehand or b) reading the menu online too!

Really poor from the moment we walked in. Group of four girls for a Christmas get together so we booked one of the outdoor pods. So disappointed when we arrived to find the pod was still dressed out in an autumn theme with pumpkins and not Christmassy like you would expect this time of the year! The decor was cheap and tacky and wasn’t worth the extra £25 that we paid to have the pod! So anyway enough on that. Next we order a round of cocktails and our food. Two of us had the roast turkey and one had a plant burger the other a normal burger. The cocktails arrived then one minute later our food arrives so no time to enjoy the cocktails. All the food apart from the plant burger comes out and we are informed by the waitress (who btw is lovely) that unfortunately this burger was missed so it will be out shortly. We waited to eat ours but the wait was ridiculous. I went in at this point to see the manager and find out what is happening. She says she wasn’t aware and will look into what has happened. She then returns and advises that she will knock our first round of drinks off the bill. The plant burger arrived at the point. The roast turkey was poor. It came with a tiny bit of greens and looked like veg was missing! Overall heard really nice things about this place but I was so disappointed. Will not come back nor will I recommend!

We had a fantastic meal here. When we arrived the front of house were very friendly and greeted by the owner. I had the game terrine to start, it was a very well balanced dish and would definitely have it again. Then I had the beef cheek. This was amazing. To top the meal off was a delicious sticky toffee pudding. Excellent choice of food, wine and cocktails. I would highly recommend a visit

I have never been so sick in my life!!!!! Went as a group of 16 people, the 4 people ate oysters and we have all been off work with sickness/diarrhea... I personally have never been so ill in my life. Sick over 50 times yesterday, haven't moved in the last 48-60 hours. I called up to speak to a manager and yet to hear back. This is by no means a cheap restaurant, its top end prices for Sevenoaks area. I will never be attending this place ever again. Also on a side note, you cannot even hear the live singer, we sat about 10 meters from her and couldn't hear a thing... I don't want this to take away from how angry i am with this food poisoning but some feedback for you guys to improve.

We have been here 3 times now. The first time was for Sunday lunch which was great. We then went back again in September October and had lobster. It was clearly not fresh and was mushy and tasteless. We then went again for Sunday roast and it was very disappointing. The beef was overcooked, the vegetables were obviously just reheated and the potatoes were like bullets. It’s a real shame as we like the place. The decor is very nice, although the toilets are grim and need a refurb to match the rest of the place. Hopefully they will up the game a bit more as it could be perfect

Wow …. We have eaten many times in the plough for Sunday lunch , a la carte and steak night and have always been impressed. However they have totally raised the bar with their new afternoon tea. I took my family last Thursday and was totally impressed. Firstly the bone chine and ambience was sublime as was the service. The cakes , homemade were the best I’ve had (better than our usual annual family afternoon tea at the Lanesborough hotel and a fraction of the price and better tasting). If you would like to treat your family to a great afternoon out treat , please book this. We didn’t book the pods but took a picture of another couple in there (sorry for intruding) but I have just booked for a family Christmas treat and can’t wait.

I'd been wanting to try this place for a while, my son booked very last minute for Sunday lunch but, even though it was very busy, we ended up being given the best table in the restaurant. Very nice decor, very good food and service, lovely atmosphere. Although I really enjoyed the live music, I was pleased we weren't sitting too close as I guess that would be very loud. Will definitely return, in fact I've already booked. I'm just sad it will be closed for my Birthday.

The decor is beautifully done it’s nice to go somewhere different and unique. Places need to stand out for you to go back and this defiantly does! I went to this pub expecting to have a Sunday roast in the quiet of the countryside. Instead I felt like I was at a wedding reception - totally bling decor and a pub singer to boot. The food was OK though it is a bit strange to serve a nut raast with meat gravy - how hard can it be to cater for vegetarians? I could really have done without the cabaret. The pork was overcooked. Not quite my cup of tea I'm afraid.

Complained and was told maybe i should have ordered something else.....Save yourself £100 and go somewhere else! This is not a vindictive review. Based on the food 0/10

After a number of tenant chefs/operators, and a prolonged period of renovation during the first lockdown, I was pleased to find out that the Plough was finally open under new management. ( A bit of local advertising in the village might have been appropriate). Welcome back and happy to have a local gastro pub again on our doorstep. My wife and I were warmly welcomed and seated in what I took to be the pre-dinner drinks area. As it happened we remained at the same table for dinner. We had a perfectly acceptable sparkling wine as an aperitif while we reviewed the menu. When I scanned the menu and saw only four choices in each section I was initially disappointed but then on closer inspection, I realised that each of the dishes were worth having. The wine list is equally limited and sadly not as interesting as the food menu and two of the more popular wines were not available. ( Bear in mind that we dined on the last night before the new lockdown). We did chose a Spanish chardonnay but we were informed that there no wine glasses available due to a problem with the supplier. We ended up with cocktail glasses--didn't alter the taste of the wine!Warm bread and flavoured butter arrived and all resistance was broken down as the aroma wafted up. Our first courses arrived promptly --one of pigeon and the other of warm salmon. Both starters were delicious, well presented and full of flavour. Our mains were Cod and the Risotto and as with the starters, came beautifully presented and as described on the menu.Having had two excellent choices, we decided to go for the hat-trick and succeeded with a finish of Chocolate mousse(very rich) and Cheesecake.Full marks for the food-as good as one could have- but the wine list must be work-in-progress. Also, I feel paper napkins could be improved upon to match the quality of the food. The staff are enthusiastic, friendly and attentive but disappointed not to see any sign of the new owners. It must be soul-destroying to have opened after the first lockdown only to close again shortly after opening. The good news is that I understand a takeaway service will operate but more importantly, the word is out that The Plough is offering good quality food and service. We have already broadcast our experience and we shall definitely return when The Plough reopens.

With all the Social Media buzz surrounding the reopening of the Plough we were excited to pay a visit. We pulled up in the car park and were immediately drawn to the much publicised "Pods", that basically feel like they are housed in the near corner of the car park itself. I can't help but feel I would have been hugely dissapointed if I had paid to experience one, particularly when they could have been sited in the small, idyllic garden close by. Entering the pub it's clear they have spent a lot of money on the place, with the result being that it feels like a venue that would be featured in an episode of Towie. It's really been stripped of any warmth and charm. We were invited to sit in the "snug". I'm not sure if the trades description act runs to this level, but it really should. The area resembles a cold waiting room of a newly formed cosmetic surgery clinic in Brentwood.Having declined, we sat near the bar and enjoyed a bottle of decent Rose. We asked to have a look at the menu, to be told she would have to check with the Chef as they were fully booked for lunch. I counted 12 people inside and with an additional 3 pods in operation there could have been a maximum of an additional 18 diners. The waitress returned to say that lunch was possible and gave us a menu. I guess limited is an understatement, with a choice of 2 starters, 2 mains and dessert. I can't imagine that Pumkin soup or Smoked Mackerel will satisfy the majority of palates. We asked if they did any bar snacks, hoping for some smaller Chef creations but were told not.We enjoyed our drinks, but were slightly surprised after they spent a few minutes Googling to be told they didn't have the necessary 3 ingredients to make one due to being let down by their drinks supplier over a week ago. The visit was completed with a visit by my partner to the ladies where she found there was no lock on the toilet door. Sadly the design meant that she couldn't put her foot against the toilet door due to it being round the corner, meaning that she risked full exposure in the unfortunately situated mirror at any point. I have to say the staff were lovely, but clearly inexperienced as demonstrated by the necessity to have a team meeting to decide on the necessary constituents of a Negroni. I was surprised that with such a new venture there was no sign of the Landlord or an experienced managerial figure.I appreciate every new venture has teething problems, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a lock on the toilet door before opening or to be able to source enough of a range of drinks to satisfy a basic cocktail request.I genuinely wish the place well and whilst I can see the potential demand for "fine" dining on Friday and Saturday nights, I'm not convinced this will be a venue of choice for the local community once the initial hype subsides. Having recently visited the Fordwich Arms, I have witnessed first hand what a fabulous pub conversation can look like, with incredible food in warm surroundings. Whilst the food at the Plough "may" be a fine dining extravaganza, I feel the overall offering requires a huge amount of work. I hope the management take this review in the spirit in which it's intended.

The reception we received from the staff was really good and gave us hope for a great lunch....however this was not to be. Maybe because it was a busy day but the service (however friendly and polite) was very slow. When someone eventually came to take our order we were advised there was a half hour wait. . .OK no big deal, nice atmosphere and decent beer so we waited. Unfortunately the food was not worth the wait....or indeed the money. I had fish and chips. Pretty straight forward you would think but the fish was overcooked and the chips were greasy and equally overcooked. My wife had the avocado on toast with poached eggs but the bread was tough, difficult to cut and the whole dish simply wasn't good enough.

We’ve been here before a few times and it’s always been excellent, so had no hesitation in booking for our family and friends family for a bank holiday treat. What a mistake. On arrival our booking had been crossed out, but they found a table. After 15 minutes of so we had to ask for menus. It took another half hour for our order to be asked for, only to be told they had no sausages, no lettuce for the Caesar salad and could do fried eggs and scrambled eggs but no poached?! Another 45 or so passed before the food arrived. The kids eggs on toast (£4.50) was an anaemic single slice of cheap supermarket bread with a singular fried egg. The ham and cheese sandwich (£9) was two slices of dry supermarket bread with a smattering of grated cheese and some ham. We complained to the waitress who said it’s what people wanted. An hour and a half after sitting down (one course of easy meals) we asked for the bill, to find someone else’s coffees added. We asked for the manager, who couldn’t have cared less - his excuse for the plastic bread was that’s what his customers wanted and we should pay what we thought it was worth. The wine was wrong, the water was already left on the table in open bottles - I could go on but there’s so much wrong I can’t be bothered to write anymore. Long story short - don’t visit here, the food is lousy and the service is worse. Guessing it’s new owners who obviously think their customers are gullible. Only given one star as can’t give none.

Visited The Plough for Sunday Lunch, service was efficient and quickly was seated with drinks, the look and feel of the pub now is a bit trendy but still looking like a traditional pub, very clean etc. The menu was brought over and I took several minutes trying to find the next page of the menu... only there wasn’t one, what is offered is basically all day breakfast from a full fry up or something more healthy, either soup, salad or a sandwich, the only mains are 3 traditional pub grubs (fish and chips, ham, egg and chips or burger and chips) hence the reason I was looking for another page! No steak, no Sunday lunch, no veggie mains nothing, very disappointed, ordered the burgers, they are lovely as were the chips no issues with that, again service quick and efficient, I just can’t get my head around something which is so limited in a pub in the heart of Kent which is surrounded by farming land, If I wanted to go to a cafe I would have done, equally it looks as if this menu is all that is offered up too 4pm... if you get hungry after that the perhaps you can have a slice of cake that sits uncovered on the end of the bar to go with your pint. I don’t mean to sound mean but this isn’t good, my recommendations would be to have a separate weekend menu and also offer cooked food of an evening, I can’t see how this pub will have sufficient turnover to carry on trading on wet sales alone, a real shame.

The staff were quite inattentive and also seemed to turn a blind eye to some unusual toilet activity, which is very concerning if visiting with children. We shan’t be returning.

Where to start!! We were visiting the area to see family and had heard such great things about the pub, so we decided to pay a visit. Our friends had said we must go for breakfast as apparently it was not to be missed. I'm vegetarian (my husband isn't) and I was reluctant to think it would be as good as we had heard. I was not to be dissapointed at all, this was by far the best breakfast I have been served in a long time , the choice was fab, amazing value, service on point and absolutely delicious. My husband said his breakfast was really hearty and gave him all the energy he needed for our long walk that day. The staff there were lovely and even went out their way to give our dog a treat and some water. Wish we had a pub of this quality in our local area - so glad we found this gem. We will be back soon! Thank you.

The Plough is my absolute favourite pub in the area and certainly well worth making a trip to visit. There are great walks nearby and also Igtham Moat, which is a fabulous National Trust property and gardens within walking distance.

We have been trying to visit The Plough for many years but last week we finally achieved our goal and were not disappointed at all. The warm welcome we received plus being able to sit adjacent to the log fire set the scene for a scrumptious light lunch following a visit to Ightham Mote. Our sandwich and scotch egg were so tasty and beautifully arrayed and it was all so good that I just had to have two glasses of Prosecco to prolong our lunch. In fact could have stayed there all afternoon. So thank you to the chefs and to our very courteous and helpful bar lady. We shall be back!

We recently booked at another nearby restaurant for a relatives special birthday meal, but were let down. We called this place on the off chance as we were at Ightham Mote and they managed to book us in, we couldn't have been happier to find a table for six at such short notice.

Don’t often feel compelled to leave reviews but the Sunday roast my fiancé and I had was so fantastic that I have to. It was one of the best Sunday roasts I have ever had, in or out of a restaurant. The components were really well thought out and executed fantastically. I went for the pork, it was sensational.

Wow - I never order a roast in a pub as they're usually dry and over cooked, but I wanted to shake the chef by the hand after this delicious Sunday roast at The Plough last week! The beef was tender and beautifully rare (pink but not bleeding) and tasted all smokey and seasoned - accompanied by the smoked shallot it was just ... ahhhhh....melt in your mouth stuff! The spuds, cauliflower cheese and everything else on the plate was divine. The starters (scotch egg, squid and popcorn mussels) were equally as incredible. I wish I'd had room for a dessert as I'm sure it would have been just as amazing. I'm literally checking the diary to see when we can go back! Amazing! Aside from the food the staff were brilliant and despite it being really busy they managed to squeeze our party of 7 (with 3 young kids) in at a moments notice.

Popped in here yesterday on the off chance and got lucky. We’d been for a walk at ightham mote with our puppy and this was the nearest pub. Shown to a table and puppy was given water and treats! Traditional pub fare on offer and a few more unusual dishes but all cooked to perfection. We had ploughman’s, fish pie and ham egg and chips, all delicious home cooked food. Recommend upgrading to home made scotch egg with your ploughman’s it was fab. Managed desserts too - chefs signature baked Alaska, brownies and greatchoice of ice cream flavours - Turkish delight, salted caramel and baileys to name a few. The coffee was great too!

Had a stroll down here after visiting Igtham Mote. Really nicely decorated pub, quite modern but keeping the cosy pub charm. Good selection of beers, was chuffed to see a session ale in the form of a Beavertown ipa. After reading then menu we got tempted in to getting a spot of late lunch (served even though we'd missed the cut off) and ordered some sandwiches. They were very filling and if good quality. Sourdough bread, lovely jubbly . Staff were very welcoming too.

This was a perfect stop before visiting the lovely NT Ightham Mote, 1/2 mile away. Service was friendly, draught apple cider and the Plough Pilsner were excellent and food substantial. The ham and cheese chunky sandwich came with remoulade and a mug of really good chips. The sourdough could have been toasted as it was a bit dry. Spicy lentil soup was OK but needed more seasoning and wasn't at all spicy. It came with sourdough bread and a generous pat of butter. With 2 rounds of drinks lunch was £27. Nice Farrow and Ball type decor with a chess set on one table and piano for customers. We enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine. Happy to go there again if ever in the area.

Called in for lunch prior to our visit to NT Ightham Moat. Meeting friends for lunch. Seemed a very nice village pub with a good welcome. Unfortunately they were not providing proper lunches on Tuesday ( or Monday apparently). all they were offering was a selection of artisan type Ploughmans (£9) and Sandwiches( £8.5). Not cheap but substantial. My wife and I had ham and St Giles Cheese sandwiches. Thick bread and thick slices of ham with cheese and they came with a helping of chips ( not bad). Overall quite filling. Our friends had the Ploughmans which was quite good apparently. They had a separate portion of chips (£3) and we had 2 packets of Kent crisps. Nice but at £1.35 each they should be. The plough mans had the option to add a scotch egg at £4.50. They didn't bother. Summer Perle craft ale supplied by Whitstable Brewery on tap. Very good and at £4.20 per pint not too bad for a pub.

A very nice, friendly pub. We were welcomed as we entered the front door, by a lovely smile from the girl behind the bar. Decent beer, very good wines, and interesting soft drinks. The dining area is open and airy, with comfortable seating and tables. The food was faultless, as was the service. Chef knows what he's doing, and takes an interest in the customers. My roast pork with magic crackling was moist and tender. My wife's roast beef was thick, juicy, and pink as she likes it. Yorkshire, veg and roast spuds, perfect. We also had their cauliflower cheese, as we'd heard it was good. It was. Ample portions, but children's portions if you prefer to save yourself for the terriffic afters. We will certainly go back, soon.

Having lived in the area for 11 years we have visited The Plough under a few owners. The new owners have now settled in after maybe an over ambitious menu at the start resulting in slow service. This has now been rectified and they offer a small but well thought out menu covering all bases at typical gastropub prices. There is an excellent selection of craft beers and locally sourced tipples like Greensand Ridge Gin from a mile down the road. The wine menu is also carefully sourced and the best thing is they take dogs!

We popped in last Thursday( 9.8.18 )3 of us for dinner. The young lady who greeted us and sat us at the table was 1st class. We choose Ham Egg and chips, Fish and chips and a burger, followed by marmalde bread and butter pudding for all 3 of us. The menu may be limited, but the quality and presentation was of a five star restaurant. The co owner (from Leeds) also was very pleasant, and when we were leaving we asked if we could have a candle as we were glamping near by. Next time we are in Kent we will certainly visited again, good luck with your plans for the future.

Great choice of items (incl. Vegetarian) from the menu - I had the Ham, Egg & chips as did two of my companions. Good thick rasher of ham, not the dainty supermarket slice that is now prevalent, two thumping great eggs and really well done skin-on potato chips.

I thoroughly enjoyed an evening with girl friends at The Plough. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, the food was excellent (crayfish popcorn followed by Ham, egg and chips!) The puddings were amazing too. The menu isn't huge but I like that and I couldn't decide as they all sounded so delicious. My friends meals were all excellent too (just a lot of closed mussels on one dish but these were replaced immediately.). The wine and drink selection were excellent and not over priced. My only tiny negative is the con was a tad chilly for me and made the food go cold quickly, but the weather had turned cooler that evening. It would be a bonus in the hot weather!

Really nice dinner here earlier this week. Booked a table although it was quiet. The menu isn’t massive but I find that reassuring that the food is likely freshly made and not out of a freezer or a packet. We all really enjoyed our food and would most definitely come back again. Staff very courteous and didn’t rush us to leave or clear our plates which we appreciated. Prices are what you’d expect of a pub cooking fresh, decent food.
