Now I’m not one for complaining about local pubs as I’m desperate to support and use before we lose to many.. But I have to say the service we had tonight at this pub was Shocking to say the lease.. the service from the unhelpful waiting staff, just plonking our meals on the table. when we questioned something the girls asked “what’s wrong” not once did they ask us if we were happy with our food… They asked never offered us any further drinks from 9.45pm onwards as clearly they wanted to close up, last orders was at 10:00pm yes 10:00pm was last orders.. I thought this was suppose to be 11:00!0m unless I’m completely wrong.. This review is from someone who drinks regularly on Sunday afternoon at this pub.. myself and our guests were treated like an inconvenience rather than paying guests. Actions will speak louder than my words..!! Grant

Service was really good. Food was ok but expensive for the quality provided. They had only one ale on tap and they said it was the end of the barrel which I think is weird for a pub of that size.

This lovely old building has been recently refurbished and is now offers a fine restaurant and bar area without sacrificing any of its charming antiquity. We booked for a Monday evening and were surprised to find in the relatively affluent part of west Kent that we were the only diners - has the economic malaise affected this prime commuter area so quickly and so alarmingly? We had good service and the starters delighted all the table whether the delicious prawn and crab cocktail or the homemade pate with excellent onion chutney. My wife raved about butternut squash stuffed with mushrooms, peppers, onions, spinach and other veggie delights for her main course. However, our male friend and I were not so pleased with our battered haddock on this occasion as the skin seemed tough and excess fat oozed out of the batter. Glad we opted for new potatoes rather than the fat chips offered. We will return as the ambience is so nice, the parking easy and the food usually of a high standard.

A welcome change at this ancient Shepherd Neame pub (circa 1642) to find that the owners are investing in both the fabric of the building such as a new roof and the internal decor plus furnishings. The result is a delightfully spacious and attractive facility with ample parking at the rear. My party of 8 was well accommodated in the main restaurant area, the service was efficient and helpful with the food generally being given a good rating. The starter of prawns and langoustine in a marie rose sauce (£10.95) with buttered brown bread proved very popular as did the Battered Haddock and new potatoes (£16.95) for the main. Though it did seem very strange to charge an additional £1.00 for a few frozen peas? Better to have the real deal of proper mushy peas says this Yorkshireman. Other main to highlight was the grilled Salmon fillet and hollandaise (£21.50) as those opting for the Seafood Linguine (£23.00) found the fish content and flavour somewhat overwhelming. A bottle of average Picpoul (£31.00) was rated good value as were the pints of the iconic Master Brew (£4.75). With service at a now modest 10%, the overall bill was £393.43 or just under £50pp so well worth another visit.

Myself, my partner and friends came here on the 4th of Jan after being turned away by a different pub who were about to close their kitchen at 2pm and I'm so happy we came here instead! We were out for a trip prior to my birthday 2 days later and the food was good, a cosy atmosphere and the staff were so friendly and helpful. My girlfriend had brought some doughnuts from our favourite bakery in Hove and wanted to pop some candles in for my birthday. The staff helped her do it even though they were obviously bought from elsewhere. Some other places might have been funny about that but they were very accommodating. We tried to leave a cash tip too but they wouldn't take it so I just really wanted to shout out the two young women who were on the wait staff that day and the guy behind the bar who had a good laugh with my girlfriend about the doughnuts too. You guys made the end of the day very fun!

Despite living in the area for more than 50 years, this was my first visit and what a delightful surprise. The restaurant and bar areas have been attractively refurbed with exposed beams and brickwork, soft grey/blue wood cladding to walls, sturdy light oak tables and very comfortable new chairs. The outside has seen a new roof, complete paint job and new sign to add to the generous spaces in the rear car park. Staff were attentive and efficient and a pint of Shepherd Neame's "Masterbrew" (£4.75) from Britain's oldest brewer was just perfect. The food was de luxe pub fare spanning a range of dishes from the a la carte menu and the daily specials. I had the Battered cod with chips and garden peas (£17.95) which was the best i have sampled in local pubs this year. Moist fresh fish with a light crispy batter, crunchy chips with soft centres and as much tartare sauce as needed. I cant wait to return with my grandchildren in the Christmas holidays. Very well done to all the team at the G&D in Ightham !!

After over 10 visits to The George & Dragon in Ightham, my recent experience left a bad impression. Due to poor WiFi and card connection issues, I couldn’t pay my £40 bill and was asked to leave my backpack as security while I fetched cash. As someone from the Guernsey community, I found this insulting - I wouldn’t vanish over a £40.00 bill. For an establishment I’ve supported many times, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience.

We really enjoyed our Father's Day meal here. The pub is in a beautiful village setting and boasts the original wonky beams and low doorways of a 16th century drinking hole. The menu is simple and unpretentious, but the food is delicious, cooked to perfection and generous in portion size. The place wasn’t close to full and the “chefs” were just stood in the kitchen not even mid-cook. They said they’d do us a big, hot meal but refused to do a cheese sandwich despite not having any advertised “end of lunch service”. The front of house staff were lovely and really embarrassed by the kitchen staff, offering us suggestions of other places to go which turned out to be lovely.

We booked here last minute for Sunday lunch. The pub is in a very pretty location and has a fine history, but the interior feels soulless, a little cheap and entirely lacking in ambiance. It is pretty unwelcoming and utilitarian and certainly doesn't live up to its location/exterior. Staff, however, were lovely and both friendly and efficient. Starters and main courses were really tasty and well cooked, with decent portions too. Dessert was a little disappointing as the quality wasn't as good. I suspect in the apple crumble the filling was either brought in pre made or used tinned apple instead of fresh. All in all, savoury was good, sweet wasn't, service was good, dining room wasn't, so all in all I wouldn't go again

We went here a few years ago and had a wonderful meal. Thought we would pay a return visit. A main dish was unavailable as was a dessert. They had no Rose wines. Our meal was nice, but we were not offered any sauces. It wasn't advertised that the burger came with cheese, so I had to remove that before I could eat it. I had a glass of Chardonay, 125 size, for which I was charged £6.10! Sorry an absolute rip off. We will not be returning. My response to your reply. I did not mishear the waitress, I asked if you had Pinot Blush which she advised you didn't have but did have Zinfadel, then said you didn't have any Rose. Another customer was also advised the same when he asked for a Rose. P.S I had a 125 Rose wine in another pub today it was £4.90! You are definitely ripping people off!

I want to keep coming here - however the young staff do not seem to know how to smile and make you feel welcome- the food is great if a little expensive and service charge is ok however you have to pay at the till which doesn’t add up but the main thing is feeling welcome and enjoying your experience if you are going to spend £20 plus for a breakfast and a tea. Maybe it just training needed as the older staff are welcoming and on the ball ?

Great local pub. Well kept beer and nice fish and chips on Fridays

I went here for a Folk Night 🌙 and unfortunately, I did not get to eat in this very atmospheric pub. It has a feel of its historic past as you walk in, and this is added to by being in the grounds, almost, of Tonbridge Castle. A good selection at the bar and outside area if required.
