Very cosy and welcoming pub, Mel the landlady allows local groups to meet there for socials and music. A community pub to enjoy. Oh, and check out their Halloween efforts!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cardinals Error in Tonbridge, and it was an incredible experience! The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming, making it the perfect spot for both casual gatherings and special occasions. The menu is a delightful mix of creative dishes, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. I highly recommend trying the [insert specific dish], which was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The service was outstanding—attentive without being intrusive, and the staff were genuinely friendly, adding to the overall charm of the place. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Cardinals Error is a must-visit. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their menu!

Really lovely country pub to go to on a sunny afternoon. We would have stayed longer, however bar staff were both on their breaks so couldn't get any service.

I have become a Wednesday regular! Always a friendly welcome with a proper pub feel. We particularly enjoy the Heineken in chilled glasses. Child friendly and dog friendly. I have not tried the food hence no rating for that. I am looking forward to Christmas because the lovely lady landlord always makes an effort with decorations, Halloween was a particular highlight! So nice to go somewhere that has the old school charm of a proper English pub.

Excellent pub with friendly staff, and a very welcoming atmosphere! Being one of the few pubs in Tonbridge I had yet to visit I leaped at the chance to have a family evening here. Lots of space for everyone to sit around and catch up, and there was a play area outside for children to run around in. Good selection of drinks at very reasonable prices, and there is food served too. Darts and pool are available, as well as fruit machines and a jukebox to put on your own music! Supposedly haunted too which would make The Cardinals Error a must visit pub for any would-be ghost hunters.

Minus 1 star ! Had a meal. Poor quality . Overpriced. Prebooked and so disorganised. No pudding as forgot to shop then couldn’t be bothered. Kids were eventually told to sit down and stop playing in the garden !! Never go there again . 19 people disappointed…..

Lovely old pub to look at both inside and out with a big beer garden, ideal for the one day each year when the sun shines and you don’t need to go to work (or mow the lawn, mend a fence or any other tedious order from the wife). We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon and it was a bit quiet which is sad for what could be very lively pub, presumably the locals are too busy shoplifting in Sevenoaks, or honouring a VO at Sheppey. Usual selection of drinks, and food is apparently served on a Sunday lunchtime. Read some of the typical fictional history up on the walls about ghosts etc. Truth is, it used to be a farm until the turn of the last century, but there’s no harm in pleasing the gullible.

Good place for a pint. But don't stay too long. Bit of a tourist trap. And I think it's cursed by djinn and Kala jadu

Clean and bright interior with ample off-the-road parking at no cost. Table service by delightful staff. I had two slices of fresh and crispy fried bread, two fried eggs with just runny yolks, two rashers of bacon, a slice of black pudding and a tub of baked beans. With a large mug of Americano coffee and 10% optional service my bill was £15.29 and worth every penny.

Had breakfast in here today, chap came in with his guid dog and was almost refused entry, the owner and his staff are clearly not very clued up when it comes to guide dog legislation, they made him and his dog and the lady with him sit by the door. I'll not be using this cafe ever again. I hope the owner reads this and gets to grip with the legislation along with his staff, 20 years I've been in catering one waitress said!! really!! very very poor experience, especially in this day and age.

We visited The Hengist at 2pm on Sunday 10th November for a family meal of 6 adults & 2 children. The decor looked amazing and the initially very friendly staff took care of our drinks and foods orders well, encouraging us to order extras like gravy and roast potatoes at this point as ‘in his words’ if we didn’t order them now we would have finished our meals by the time they arrived. Having had 2 rounds of drinks all arriving in good time we started to wonder when the food would come. 2 starters of scotch eggs arrived about 30 minutes after ordering but unfortunately the sausage meat part was raw so we let the waiter know that we weren’t happy to eat them. An hour later (so 90 minutes after ordering) we still had no mains, the waiting staff now seemed to be trying to avoid us including to order more drinks and we had to call someone over to ask if at least the kids food could be sent as they were now getting hungry. Soon after a kids pasta and kids roast beef (which had no vegetables whatsoever priced at £11) came out. Still no mention or apology of our wait on food plus a couple of us were now without a drink. 20 minutes later when the children had finished their meals and no check on our table or explanation for our wait on food had been given we decided we had had enough and we would leave, asking for the bill of what we had consumed. A bill arrived including everything we had ordered including the missing meals, missing extras, returned starters and £5 each for the kids apple juices which were supposed to be included in a kids meal as well as a service charge percentage of all of that on top totalling £300! As you can imagine by this point we were quite annoyed, so having told the waiting staff as such, finally an owner came to our table but instead of apologising or trying to correct the situation we were made to feel like difficult customers. We left having spent over 2 hours not eating any food (except the children) and still having spent £90 (a few beers, 1 glass of wine and 1 gin & tonic). I haven’t left a restaurant this dissatisfied in a long time. I understand sometimes things go wrong in hospitality but some communication, an apology and an offer of reconciliation perhaps in the form of some complimentary drinks could’ve maybe corrected this experience to not leave us feeling quite so outraged that we will not only not return but will also actively avoid recommending anyone to try The Hengist!
