Visited for the cider harvest weekend. Lots of bands for entertainment and a hog roast and sweet stand besides the usual pizza and cider, beer and wine. Busiest I've seen it and this caused some problems later with food orders. The staff were excellent although not everyone would agree as there a few rude people complaining about their late food. We visited with a large group and everyone had a great time. We'll look out for special events next year. Definitely worth a visit if you live in/ visit Canterbury.

This was our third visit but I’m sure there’ll be many more. Despite the team preparing for a large event taking place tomorrow, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was fantastic as always and the service friendly, helpful and welcoming, that’s why we keep coming back. Thank you Red Lion Team, see you at the Hoedown tomorrow

Although we have lived close to the haywain for nearly 7 years for some reason we had never visited before. What a mistake! We went yesterday with some friends and had a fab time, service was great and the lady who looked after us was friendly and not only served the bar but also waited on us at our table, provided advice on the menu options and was just great all evening Our food choices were not just tasty and well presented but the overall cost was very reasonable due to the two/three course options which all 5 of us chose from. Duck, king prawns, skate, steak and traditional fish and chips for starters and mains and a great selection of traditional desserts made for an excellent evening Will return soon and likely become a more regular visit from now on.

Staff friendly, and bar was decorated lovely for Halloween. Weve visited a few times now. When we visited a few weeks back, i ordered a jacket potato with Tuna Mayo, and the Tuna was sooo wet from too much mayo, it ruined it. The coleslaw my friend had was the opposite, and dry… This time, we had Lasagne, which we both were looking forward to trying, but sadly the top was so hard i struggled to cut it, let alone eat… the filling itself was pleasant. Unfortunately, both of us ended up with upset stomachs the same night…. A shame, as we both like visiting, and have had meals that have been lovely. Maybe a different cook this time?

Great location in a quiet village with garden, traditional pub food of high quality and reasonable price in an atmospheric old inn. Friendly staff. We've been a number of times over the years and it is our favourite. Only one bad experience when it was leased over a year or so ago.

Never use this place again New parking structure where you have to log car reg in a computer in the pub. No-one told me so was fined £100 Tried to appeal and was thrown out. Why would I park the car park to go for lunch and not log my car in. No-one at the pub told me of the new system and did not see any signs to log car in.......total joke
