Visited for the cider harvest weekend. Lots of bands for entertainment and a hog roast and sweet stand besides the usual pizza and cider, beer and wine. Busiest I've seen it and this caused some problems later with food orders. The staff were excellent although not everyone would agree as there a few rude people complaining about their late food. We visited with a large group and everyone had a great time. We'll look out for special events next year. Definitely worth a visit if you live in/ visit Canterbury.

Wedding Venue Review We got married here in August 2024 and could not have been happier with our venue choice. We are so grateful to George and all the Woolton farm team for going above and beyond in all the planning phases and of course on the big day itself. There is so much flexibility with the venue meaning you can really make the day however works best for you! We chose to have our whole day here, including our wedding ceremony. I believe we were one of the first couples to do this, but you wouldn’t have known with how smoothly everything ran. George even went so far as to tell the bridesmaids when to come out at specific timings as I wanted to walk down the aisle at a particular part of the song 😂 Our timings were perfected after our rehearsal the day before, during which George was on hand for any last minute questions. We really appreciated all the time we had for setting up as it would not have been possible on the day itself. We choose to use Tayberry for catering for our wedding breakfast who were also excellent and are located just across the car park and Maypole Marquees who are also handily located on site. George also had a great relationship with them and so was able to liaise directly with them during prep and on the day. For our evening food we got pizzas directly from Woolton and they received a lot of compliments! I got ready at the pretty prep studio, just around the corner, so you really do have everything you need close by. The barn itself and the grounds are beautiful and if you’re thinking of booking, I’d definitely recommend going to see it during one of their events, as it gives you a real sense of how fun the evening will be! We also loved the offering of the local cider and wine and purchased a few kegs as pour your own pint welcome drinks which went down well with everyone. On the day, George and the team handled everything without having to come to us which made us feel like we could relax after all the planning and just enjoy ourselves. There truly isn’t anything about the day we would change and we wish we could just relive it! Overall, the best parts about this venue in our opinion are the affordability, the opportunity for flexibility, the beautiful barn and grounds and the amazing team. Thanks for everything guys! We look forward to coming back in summer and reminiscing over a pizza and cider ❤️

The Red Lion of Stodmarsh is a true gem of a traditional local pub. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth by the friendly staff, who made us feel right at home. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d hope for in a classic country pub—cosy, inviting, and full of character. The food was absolutely outstanding! Every dish was cooked to perfection, using locally sourced ingredients that showcase the best of what nearby farmers and producers have to offer. It’s great to see a pub so dedicated to supporting local suppliers while serving up delicious, high-quality meals. It’s clear that the team here takes real pride in what they do, from the excellent service to the fresh, flavorful food. A fantastic place to enjoy a meal and a pint in a proper traditional setting. Highly recommend!

Went to the haywain for lunch with my parents. Lovely country pub, serving lovely hot food served on hot plates. Our new place to go. Looking forward to our next visit.

Disappointed to turn up on a Friday at 2.45pm as they advertise food all day, to be told the chef is out until 5pm. Also noted the old 2023 Good Food Guide and other stickers still on the door - these were when it was under previous ownership when it was more of a gastropub.

Have visited before but today was not good.I had fish chips.Unfortunatly the fish was inedible as it was hot but not cooked thoroughly. The batter was gooey which made the fish the same.I should have complained but do not like to make a fuss.
