Not what we were expecting- no atmosphere - guests wandering through with their spa gowns while we were eating and drinking - inattentive staff - mediocre food - the curry was basically a bowl of soup with floating mushrooms - shop bought mini poppadoms - the duck should have been served shredded rather than what looked like two knuckles and served with more than a shop bought bag of lettuce - glad we checked this out before arranging a family get together - very disappointed so won’t be returning

Although this site asks, when and who you were with, sadly, I never got to visit on this occasion. I've visited previously and the food was fab but it's not to be this time. I tried calling constantly for 2 hours to book a table, however no one is answering calls. No facilities to leave a voicemail and email hasn't been answered. Very disappointing

The people who run this B&B obviously reserve their charm for customers for the B&B - woebetide anyone popping in for a sandwich or cup of tea and doesn't stop to spend enough money. A group of 9 of us walking the 20 miles from Shap to Kirkby Stephen stopped en-route as one of our group had forgotten their sandwiches and this was the only place for miles. Firstly when ordering the sandwich he was asked if that was 'all' that he was ordering and if we didnt want teas and coffees etc. Then some of us used the toilet and sat round waiting for the sandwich to be made and also waited for a friend to sort out the plasters on their feet. As requested by the owner some of us that had used the toilet to put a donation in the charity tin - which we did. We were just about to leave when the other owner came out and shouted at us for 5 minutes giving us some 'feedback' on how awful we were for using the toilet, sitting round in their driveway and basically not purchasing enough goods. I appreciate it must have been annoying us using the toilet - but if you don't want people to use it don't advertise it on your signs or ask people to pay (I quite happily have would and I did donate to the charity tin). So here's my feedback - for those walking the 20 miles from Shap to Kirkby - you are too early in the day for people to stop for teas and coffees - and you know what - if I'd met anyone coming the other way I'd have told them not to bother due to rudeness and anger we encoutered.
